Dev Update #11: November 2025

We just released our v2.0.0-beta.10 update, which brings the Play Records to the 2.0 beta. With this update, the entire collection section is now fully available in 2.0 for both editing and viewing!

While it's a niche feature, we included a lot of nice improvements and even some smaller additions, which should make managing Play Records a lot easier and more efficient.

We published our November dev blog today to take a deeper look at the Play Records in 2.0!

Dev Update #10: October 2025

Halfway through September, we released v2.0.0-beta.9 which introduced the Scholar's Guild, a community effort to improve the database. Take on quests, contribute missing data to IGDB, and earn XP, ranks, and badges while making imports smoother for everyone.

In the days after we released v2.0.0-beta.9.1 with some additions and fixes, and today we released v2.0.0-beta.9.2, the last update to the Scholar's Guild for the time being.

The Scholar's Guild has been a massive success and it's thanks to all of you. We are so lucky to have such an amazing community ❤️

We published our October dev blog today to share some numbers, and shine some light on what the guild will look like once you guys inevitably clear our data backlog. And we talk about what we'll be working on next: porting the play records!

Dev Update #9: September 2025

Last week, we released our v2.0.0-beta.8 update. It brought over a set of new pages to 2.0, complete with improvements.

We also published our September dev blog yesterday, where we take a look at the newly ported pages and some of the new things we added to them. We also bring up the previously discussed data contribution system, a feature we're currently working on to give the community a way to help us with game data. This feature will help us long-term, as more games in the database means less issues with imports, and less time spend on dealing with questions.

We know this isn't exactly a core feature and we know many of you may not be interested in it, and that's completely fine. But for everyone who did mention they'd love to chip in, this will be a way to help Infinite Backlog's community as a whole!

Dev Update #8: August 2025

We just released our v2.0.0-beta.7 update. It's focused heavily on behind-the-scenes improvements, including a big overhaul of our moderation tools, but there’s plenty you can see too! We’ve fixed a ton of bugs, added small improvements across the site, and ported a few smaller sections to the beta.

We also just published our August dev blog, where we talk about the work we've done, the changes to our team structure, and shine a spotlight on our amazing volunteers.

We’d really love it if you took a moment to read it and get to know the people behind the different classes on the site, what they do, and who you can turn to with questions.

Dev Update #7: July 2025

It’s July, and that means it's time for a another dev update! This month we take a look at the brand new import system in 2.0, full of improvements and additions that'll make the whole process easier for both new and existing users. We also added a few new settings related to the imports and linked accounts, most importantly a way to hide your service usernames from others.

Release 2.0.0-beta.5.1

As promised we're going to be sharing every beta release going forward so you can all stay up-to-date with our progress! We just released beta.5.1 which is a minor update containing mostly bugfixes and a few improvements related to beta.5's new Backlog Golf feature.

The highlights:

  • Backlog Golf entries are now displayed in reverse order, with your most recent items shown first.

  • Added a new button that links directly to the Backlog Golf leaderboard, so you can quickly see how you're doing compared to your friends.

  • Added an info button that opens a pop-up with a summary of the Backlog Golf rules, along with links to the full explanation and FAQ.

  • Introduced a “Refresh” button to previous years, allowing you to recalculate your score and entries based on any changes made to your collection since the year was initialized.

Alongside these improvements we've fixed a lot of bugs. You can find a full list of all the changes in our v2.0.0-beta.5.1 changelog.

Thanks again to everyone who helped report and narrow down the cause of these bugs, it really helps in making sure we can keep up 2.0's quality!

Now this is done, we'll return to working on the next feature port from 1.0: Imports!

A look back at our 2025 beta updates

We’ve been slacking a bit on Patreon updates. All of our regular communication happens through the site, where we post monthly dev updates and share details about every new release, but we always seem to forget to cross-post them here. 😅

Most of you probably stay up to date through the main site and haven’t missed much, but for those who check in mostly through Patreon: sorry for the silence! We’ll do our best to post updates here from now on too.

To get things back on track, here’s a quick recap of what we’ve done since the beta launch in January:

A sneak peek at the upcoming enhancements

As promised, we’re back with another small sneak peek to hold you over until the beta starts! This time, we’re showcasing some of the enhancements we’ve made to existing features and functionality to make Infinite Backlog work smoother than ever! We know this might not sound as exciting as brand-new features, but trust us, these improvements will make a world of difference in how you use the site every day!

Collection edit

Let’s start with one of the biggest quality-of-life upgrades: the collection editor is now an overlay! Why is this awesome? It means you can access it from many places without losing track of where you were or what you were doing. Let’s look at an example to see how this comes in handy:

Every week, Danny shares the free Epic giveaways with us. Instead of having to navigate to the game page, click "Add to Collection" to fill out the details there, and then scroll back to your spot in the feed, you can now just hover over the game’s cover art to make a few icons appear. Click the leftmost icon to open the collection edit overlay. Add the details you want, hit save, and you’re right back to browsing the feed!

List edit

While the original list editor worked, we saw plenty of ways to make list editing more efficient and user-friendly. Here’s what’s new:

  • Improved Search: The search now includes the cover art of each game, as well as its type (e.g. main game, port, or remake), making it easier to find the exact version you’re looking for.

  • Sticky Toolbar: The toolbar, which includes action buttons, now stays visible at the top of the page when you scroll. Adding a new game automatically adjusts your scroll position to the newly added item. No more tedious scrolling back and forth!

  • Position Editing: On desktop, you can now adjust a game’s position directly through a simple input field instead of dragging it around endlessly.

  • Quick Notes: Also on desktop, notes are now directly editable on the list item itself, no need to open an overlay, saving you a few clicks

For mobile, we’ve reimagined these improvements to fit the smaller screen space. Instead of seeing all details at once, clicking on a list item will open a bottom sheet. This lets you edit details like notes and position without losing the streamlined scrolling experience.

New preference settings

We’ve always wanted to make your Infinite Backlog experience more personal and customisable, but this has always been a challenge. The original codebase wasn’t built with customisation in mind, which meant changes would have required updates across many different parts of the site.

With 2.0, starting with a fresh codebase gave us the chance to design things with flexibility in mind. While we plan to add many options after 2.0 officially launches, we’ve already implemented some new preferences that you can take advantage of right away:

  • Date/Time Format: That’s right, Americans can finally escape the confusing European date format! Change it to MM/DD/YYYY or select from other options we’ve added.

  • Default Game Format: If your library is primarily digital, you can now set your default to “digital” to make quick-adding games more useful. Once the import feature is ported to 2.0, this preference will apply on PSN and Xbox imports too!

  • Default Layout and Sorting: Choose your default sorting and layout (grid or list) for each of the main sections on profiles: collection, reviews, lists, and wishlist.

These are just a few examples of the improvements we’ve been working on for 2.0, and there’s much more to look forward to. We can’t wait to hear what you think and hope these changes make your experience with Infinite Backlog even better! As always, thank you for your support, it’s what makes all of this possible. Stay tuned for our big 2.0 beta reveal to the entire community on the 23rd, followed by the launch of the beta itself on January 1st!

A sneak peek at the Bulk Edit feature

The excitement and enthusiasm around the Infinite Backlog 2.0 beta has been incredible! It’s been amazing to hear from many of you about how much you’re looking forward to trying it out. Your excitement fuels us as we work hard to get everything ready for the beta launch on January 1st. Don’t know what we’re talking about? Check out our previous 2.0 announcement post!

We know some of you have mentioned that the wait feels long when you’re so eager to dive in—and trust us, we can’t wait for you to experience it either! While we can’t make the beta available sooner, we wanted to do the next best thing: give you a special sneak peek at one of the most anticipated features coming in 2.0: Bulk edit!

Bulk edit has been at the top of our feature request list for years. While we always wanted to implement it, the limitations of the original 1.x codebase made it nearly impossible. But with 2.0’s codebase rebuilt from scratch, we’ve been able to redesign our most complex collection logic, making this long-awaited feature finally within reach.

So, what makes bulk edit so exciting? Picture this: You’ve just bought a bundle of games from Humble, and the IB importer has added all your newly acquired Steam games to your collection. However, the imported information is basic, and you’d like to add more details—like acquisition method, source, and date. Instead of updating each game one-by-one, bulk edit lets you update up to 30 games at once in just a few clicks. It’s fast, efficient, and a total game-changer for managing your collection!

When the beta launches, bulk edit will support the most commonly used fields. We plan to expand its functionality over time, adding more editable fields and exploring ways to increase the number of games you can edit at a time without compromising the stability or performance of the site. This power feature will remain exclusive to Legend and Myth supporters after the beta concludes, as part of our commitment to making these tiers truly rewarding for those who help us build Infinite Backlog’s future.

As we continue to prepare for the beta launch, we’re also getting ready to share the news with the rest of the Infinite Backlog community. Keep an eye out for the big beta announcement going live on December 23rd!

In the meantime, we’re planning another small update next month to showcase some of the exciting enhancements 2.0 will bring to existing features. Thank you for your continued support—we couldn’t do this without you!

Happy gaming,
Adilya & Yishiru

Our biggest update yet - now in development!

Hello everyone!

We’re excited to give you, our amazing Patrons, an early reveal of something we’ve been working hard on—Infinite Backlog 2.0! This is our biggest update yet, a complete rebuild focused on giving Infinite Backlog a fresh look, improved functionality, and a stronger foundation for the future.

What is 2.0 all about?
Infinite Backlog 2.0 is a full redesign, including a new UI, enhanced UX, and numerous quality-of-life improvements. We're bringing back all the features you know and love with some added functionality and a polished experience. Unlike similar projects that lost features in a major upgrade, we're ensuring every existing feature will be part of the full release.

Why rebuild?
Our current codebase is based on outdated tech that limits what we can do. Rebuilding from scratch will make Infinite Backlog more stable, future-proof, and easier to update. This change is essential for us to keep bringing you the best experience and allows for easier updates in the long term.

When will it be ready?
As a two-person team working on IB in our spare time, this rebuild is an enormous project and far from done. However, we’ve been working towards a first beta version with core features and we’re aiming to launch it for all of our Backlog Legends and Myths in January!

Want a first look? Head to our beta information page for all the details on what to expect in January!

We’d like to keep this announcement exclusive to our supporters for now, so we’d appreciate it if discussions about 2.0 remain within the Patrons-only Discord channel. This will help us give the rest of the community a grand reveal later on—something we’re incredibly excited about!

To all of you, thank you for your incredible support. We could never have gotten this far without you, and we can’t wait to share the future of Infinite Backlog with you! We’re so excited for what’s next and grateful to have you with us on this journey.

Release 1.11.3: Playtime

We are back with the second part of the big playtime update! In 1.11.1 we added a contribution system that asked you to enter the time it took you to beat and/or complete games. We’ve been collecting this data for a little more than 2 months now and have been working hard on adding new features that will display this data in helpful ways!

Collection

Your collection, the most important part of the site! Wouldn’t it be great if you were able to filter your collection on playtime so you can quickly find those shorter games when you just don’t have the time for another 70-hour RPG? Well, now you can!

You can choose whether it’s your goal to beat or complete a game and enter a min and/or max amount of hours to get the games in your collection that meet those requirements! You can also use the two new sorting options to sort your list on time to beat or complete to find the games in your collection that will take you the least (or most) amount of time to finish, and this time will be displayed on the list items when this sorting is active.

So.. I guess we don’t really have a good excuse anymore to not be beating games, huh?

Game Page

Game pages now include a new section just below the game info showing the time it takes to beat or complete the game. If you’ve played the game you’ll also see your hours played across game copies and if you’ve beaten or completed the game you’ll have the option to contribute your playtime from here.

Bundles will show both the playtime of the entire bundle as well as the playtime for each individual game inside the bundle. Bundles that only consist of a single game but are paired with DLC (eg. GOTY/Complete editions) will not show a bundle playtime but instead show the playtime of both the game and DLC.

Contributions are only displayed for the bundle itself, so you’ll have to visit the separate pages of the bundled games/DLC to contribute to those, or use the playtime contribution page to add playtime in bulk.

Challenges

The addition to challenges is small, but useful! Each challenge will indicate how long it will take you to finish the challenge.

If you’ve already started the challenge and beaten one or more games, the playtime of those games will be added to your progress so you don’t just know how many games you have left, but also how far along you are with the total time investment!

Lists

Last one, lists! Here you will see how long it would take you to beat or complete every single game on the list, including how much you have left!* Completely useless but nevertheless fun information on most lists, but there’s lots of personal use-cases where it can come in handy!

For example, all of you that have created a list of games you aim to beat in 2024 will now be able to see how far along you really are! You may think you’re falling behind if you haven’t finished half the games yet, but this may just reveal that you’ve been playing the longer games first and the ones that are left aren’t nearly as long!

*The playtime that gets added to your progress is based on the playtime average used in the total combined playtime. It does not take personal playtime into account to properly reflect progress. Games you have beaten but not yet completed also get the beaten playtime added to the completed progress.

It probably goes without saying but I’ll mention it regardless: we do not have playtime for every single game. It’s only been two months and while you guys have been amazing with your contributions, there’s going to be gaps and potential inaccuracies when data sets for games are small.

We’ve taken care to mention the amount of games missing playtime in sections where playtime is combined (eg. lists and challenges) to make you aware of inaccuracies.

Time and community growth will improve our data set and your ability to find the information you need! So make sure to keep spreading the word of Infinite Backlog to help us grow and make the site better for everyone!

That sums up the highlights in today’s 1.11.3 update. As always, check out the changelog for a full list of changes.

For those of you who haven’t done so, please take some time to fill out our survey to help us collect valuable feedback and determine priorities. For those of you that have, we really appreciate it! ❤

Thanks again to all of you Myths, Legends and Slayers that keep us going, you are amazing!

Release 1.11.1

Today's release is a big one, and too much needs to be said to fit in a single Discord announcement, so we've written an accompanying post here to go into a bit more detail.

Image uploads

That's right, image uploads is coming out of the beta and is now available to everyone! A huge thank you to our Legends and Myths for testing the feature for us and helping us find bugs! Running this in beta first has really helped us, so we'll be looking forward to letting you guys have first dibs on new features more often!

Legends and Myths will continue to enjoy a slightly better upload quality, as it is them that help us fund this feature in the first place. Details on the image uploads feature can be found in our previous release post here.

Contribution system - Playtime

Our number one feature request - adding data on how long it takes to beat a game to our games. Those of you that upvoted the request and followed the conversation around it will know that the number one source of that data - HLTB - doesn't have a public API which means the data isn’t available freely. Simply taking HLTB data without consent isn't really a great option, especially now that they're owned by IGN.

As an alternative we've looked at using the playtime data on everyone's collection games taken from the various connected services, but that turned out to be incredibly inaccurate without context. So instead, we're going to ask you for help!

We've build a brand new contribution system to collect playtime data for this purpose. Every time you set a game to beaten or completed, you'll get a notification asking you to share how long it took you.

Clicking on this will take you to a page* that lists all your beaten and completed games ordered by last updated, including bundled games and DLC. There will be a field for both beaten and completed times which you can enter if you've met the required completion.

*This page can also be accessed through the user menu under your avatar (or the hamburger menu on mobile).

Bundled games can be entered as either the bundle in its entirety (if you have beaten all games within it) or each game individually, or both! DLC will be listed on their own, so please do not include DLC playtime in the base game.

We hope that many people will help us with this information, as this will be rewarded in the next release! Once we've collected enough information to start with, we'll use this data in various areas on Infinite Backlog. You'll be able to view time to beat on the game pages and even be able to filter your collection on it! Looking for a new game but don't want anything too long? It'll be super easy to find the right game for you with this new data point alongside all of our other existing filters!

Revamped levelling system

Our levelling system was created a long, long time ago. I checked, it has existed since our 0.1.0 release, back when it was just us and a couple of our friends and family using the service. You got XP based on the amount of games you owned and a little more XP for every game you finished. We’ve added so many new features over the years, but never went back to adjust this system, until today.

Starting today, you will earn XP for more than just owning games. Your game collection is still the core of Infinite Backlog, but simply owning games will not earn you as much XP anymore, as we want you to not just hoard but also play your games! So finishing games will net you a lot more XP than before!

Aside from your collection you’ll be earning XP for participating on the social feed, writing reviews, making lists, participating in challenges and contributing to Infinite Backlog itself with the new playtime data.

Here’s a full list of all the activities that will earn you XP. We will not disclose the exact numbers as we may need to tweak it in the coming weeks to find the right balance.

Collection

  • Owned game

  • Beaten/Completed game

  • Owned DLC

  • Beaten/Completed DLC

Social

  • Post/poll on social feed

  • Comment on post/list/review

  • Received comments on your content (not automated posts)

  • Received likes on your content (not automated posts)

Activity

  • Completed challenge

  • Informational list

  • Personal list

  • Rating

  • Review

Contribution

  • Playtime contribution

  • Implemented feature requests

  • Resolved bug reports

Everyone’s level and XP has been fully recalculated to take these changes into account.

Leaderboard

With the changes to the levelling system we couldn’t leave the leaderboards unchanged. Your position in the leaderboards is now static and will be updated every 24 hours. This means that searching for a user can actually show their rank, and your position is also visible on your profile so it’ll be easier to see as you rise in the ranks. Users that haven’t visited IB in over 6 months, have no games or have been marked as untracked in our system will not have a rank and be moved to the back of the leaderboards, but will still be visible and findable with the search.

----

That sums up the highlights in today's 1.11.1 update. As always, check out the changelog for a full list of changes. We're looking forward to seeing your contributions come in and working on using that data to improve the site.

Thanks again to all of you Slayers, Legends and Myths that keep us going!

Until next time!

Release 1.11.0 – Image uploads beta

Thanks the continued support of you amazing people it’s finally here after all those years – image uploads! It’s a feature that we, and many of you, have wanted for a long time but due to the impact such a feature has performance and storage it has always been out of reach due to costs that come with it.

With last year’s upgrade our server is finally stable enough to handle such a feature, and the increased storage should last us a while. We’ve also been able to implement a CDN to ensure we’re not serving everyone incredibly large images on mobile.

So, we wanted to express our heartfelt thanks once more. None of this would have been possible without you guys! We’re also still seeing new faces appear regularly, which makes us confident that we’ll continue to grow in supporters in the future to keep up with the increasing costs! You guys are the best <3

Now, onto the feature! It's available in beta for all Backlog Legends and Myths starting now!

Add images to posts and comments

Clicking the images button will open up a file select window. Here you can select one or more images you wish to attach to your post. Posts have a limit of 6 images while comments can only have a single image. While we do optimize uploaded images on our side, there are some file size limits to prevent filling up our storage too quickly or giving the server too much of a hard time while it's processing. Try uploading images one-by-one if it's giving you trouble.

Adding images to your post will look like this, with the ability to click on each image to view them in the image gallery:

Add images to reviews

To add images to your reviews you use the image icon in the editor. This file upload only accepts a single image each time, and inserts it into the editor at the spot your cursor was when you clicked the button. Images will be shown at full width to ensure all works well on mobile. Reviews have the same limit as posts, with a maximum of 6 images.

Change your avatar

Outside of adding images to your content, image uploads will now also finally let you upload your own avatar!

Then a bit of a obligatory PSA: we've had to update our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines in accordance with this new type of content and the law. Most of it is straightforward and an extension of the rules we already had in place which basically ask you to behave like a proper person and not do anything illegal, but please give it a once-over so we're all on the same page!

This feature will be in beta for a bit while we monitor performance and figure out the best way to roll this out to the entire community. We've tested it extensively, but with the complexity of this feature there may be some things we missed. If you run into any issues, have any remarks or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us on Discord!

We're looking forward to see how you guys find new ways to interact with others on the feed using this new feature!

Server Upgrade

As some of you may have noticed if you follow us on Discord, we’ve just finished migrating Infinite Backlog to a better server. There's still some kinks to work out with the redirect of our .nl domein, but we're fully functioning on https://infinitebacklog.net

This server upgrade is something we’ve wanted to do for a very long time because the growth of IB, both in services and users, was starting to put a real strain on our server, causing noticeable slowdowns and issues on our end. This new server lays important groundwork that will allow us to optimize IB better, as well as continue to grow our user base. Future server upgrades will also be a lot easier and quicker to perform as long as we have the necessary funds.

On that note, we want to thank all of you for your support. Without it, this upgrade would not have been possible so it’s thanks to you that Infinite Backlog can continue to thrive and grow to become the best backlog site out there!

With the end of the year approaching we also wanted to take this opportunity to look back on 2023. We are extremely grateful that we have such a dedicated community using Infinite Backlog every day. Infinite Backlog is our passion project, but it’s because of all of you sharing your ideas, feedback and support with us that we can continue to stay this passionate about it! Some of the highlights of the past year:

  • Challenges: Since this feature launched at the start of the year we’ve added 100 series/collection challenges, 45 new release challenges and held 9 events.
  • Titles: Alongside those 100 challenges an equal amount of unlockable titles were added to be shown off on your profile.
  • Multiple games per platform: Sought after by many, the unique requirement on platforms was removed to allow duplicate collection games across any platform or service.
  • No Status: Even those games you never intend to play but still want to keep a record off can be part of your collection with this new status.
  • Backlog Myth: At the behest of some users, a higher Patreon tier was introduced and a total of 22 awesome people have upgraded or signed up to support us since.
  • GOG integration: Daily imports of owned games, earned achievements and playtime of your entire GOG library.
  • DLC completion tracking: Tracking owned DLC was nice, but being able to track your progress is better.
  • Play Log: Alongside the automated one, the new manual play log allows for detailed day-to-day journaling.
  • Play Records: An extensive, complex feature that lets you track nearly anything you can think of within games, whether it’s in-game achievements, stats, high scores or collectibles.
  • Improved playtime tracking: Full control over playtime was added with options to choose from manual, synced or playthrough time tracking as well as a switch to hh:mm format.
  • Polls: Collect opinions, host a quiz or let the community choose what game to play next, polls introduce a new way to interact with the IB community.
  • GOTY 2023: Our second GOTY event, now including a new feature to select your top games of 2023 to determine IB’s top 2023.

This year has been great and we can’t wait to see what’s next in 2024! Until then, we hope everyone can use the holidays to relax, play some great games and enjoy the new year!

Release 1.10 - Play Log & Play Records

Release 1.10 is a big one, as it adds not one but two huge features. Infinite Backlog is already the best place to get insights on your backlog and log your entire cross-platform collection, but with these new feature it’ll also be the place to keep track of the games you’re playing right now!

We are super proud to introduce the Play Records and revised Play Log. Both of these are (new) sections on every game in your collection. They offer a lot of options to tailor things to your liking, which can get slightly overwhelming as some systems are a bit complex. So below we’ll take a look at them so you can get a better understanding of it!

Play Log

This may be familiar to some of you as it already existed before. It used to be a timeline comprised of earned achievements/trophies and completion posts to the social feed. This variant still exists, and is the default for all games so nothing changes for people uninterested in using this new feature.

Automated logs

As mentioned above, all play logs start out as automated logs. If you have the desire to make additions or edit sessions or playthroughs, you’ll have to make the play log manual, as the two versions cannot work together. It is possible transform the existing automated log into a playthrough with sessions, so you can get started right away.

Once a play log is manual, it will no longer receive automatic updates when you earn new achievements or trophies. It will be up to you to keep track of adding a session whenever you play (though achievements still get added automatically to those created sessions), so keep this in mind when deciding on wether or not you want to use this feature.

If at any time you decide you don’t want to keep up with your manual log anymore, deleting all playthroughs will revert the game to its automated play log.

Playthroughs

Wether you’re transforming your existing automated play log or starting fresh, a playthrough is the starting point of every play log. Each game can have one or more playthroughs, which in turn can hold different sessions.

Bundled Game: In the case of a bundle, you can indicate which bundled game it’s for so you can keep everything separate, or connect it to the full bundle instead.

Type: Indicate what kind of playthrough it is from options like first, replay, co-op, competitive, etc

Difficulty: A basic text field to specify which difficulty setting you played on.

Playtime total:
Manual on playthrough: Add total hours/minutes on playthrough itself
Calculated by session playtime: Total playtime of all sessions combined

Cross-Play: Available when you own the game on multiple platforms. Checking this will let you select other copies to share this playthrough with.

Sessions

Within each playthrough it is possible to create one or more sessions. These sessions can contain a variety of optional data so you can log as much or as little as you want each time you play a game. Achievements/trophies earned on days you add a session will be attached automatically once they are synced to Infinite Backlog.

Let’s go through some of the options here:

Status: The default is played, but it’s possible to choose beaten, completed, dropped or shelved to indicate your status with the game after that session. When logging a beaten or completed session, the game will automatically be set to this completion state and use the session’s date as the completion date. (Games already set to completed will not be downgraded to beaten when this status is used in a session)

Playtime: (optional) This will be used to calculate the playthrough’s total playtime if that setting is used. You can still log playtime even if the playthrough setting is used instead, but it won’t be used in any calculations.

DLC/Update/Season: (optional) You can tag any of these (DLC needs to be owned) to indicate that you played it that session.

Platform: (optional) Only available for cross-play sessions to indicate which of the platforms the session was played on.

Played with: (optional) You can tag any of your IB friends to show off that you played with them that session.

Stream/Video: (optional) If you streamed or made a video of your session you can add the URL to it here to have it available for viewing on the session.

Content: (optional) Here you can write anything you like about what you did that session.

Update progress notes: Checking this will populate the game’s progress notes with the content of the session (stripped of markdown).

Post to feed: This gives you an easy way to post the content of your session to the feed. Checking this will open up a new dialog after saving the session to let you tweak and tag for mature/spoilers before posting.

Playtime

Playtime has come up a few times now and you may have noticed it has minutes, where it was previously only possible to log hours. We are happy to announce that the playtime field on the game itself has also been upgraded to use hours and minutes! Not only that, it comes with a whole new set of options to determine where you want the playtime to come from.

Synced: Get playtime synced automatically from connected services.
Note: while you are able to select this for all games, it will only work for services we offer playtime tracking for (PS4/PS5, Steam, GOG).

Manual: Enter a number manually and finally have it not be overwritten by daily syncs.

Playthrough: Calculated based on the total of all playthroughs for the game.

Play Records

While those of you following the roadmap knew the new play log was coming, play records is a surprise feature for everyone! We’ve been working on this for a long time and are super excited to finally show it to everyone!

Play Records are basically a way for you to record things about your game for yourself, or to show off. This can be anything you can think of from in-game statistics, high scores, speedrun times, in-game achievements, collectible progress, you name it!

This feature is quite complex and it can be hard to imagine if you would have a use-case for it, so we’d like to show you the different options and include some examples or how it can be used!

Type: Key/Value Pair

The key/value pair is the most basic of the types, but can nonetheless be used for a number of things. The above example uses it to showcase some of the in-game statistics, but it could also be used to record high scores or speedrun times for instance.

Type: Checkbox

This type does just what it says: it let’s you check off things. This is perfect if you want to track specific collectibles or want to keep track of your Pokédex for instance. The above example is the simple variant where you have just a name, but it’s also possible to add descriptions which will take the style of achievements and is thus perfect to track in-game achievements.

Type: Progress

This one is very similar to the checkbox type, as it also has an optional description, but instead of a simple checkbox it has two input fields for progress and total, which will turn into a progress bar. This is perfect to track things in-game where you know what the total amount you’re striving for is like collectibles, levels, etc.

Type: Table

The last type is the table, which lets you create a table of up to 9 columns, which is perfect to track sets of stats that should be easy to compare to each other.

Categories

Categories are at the core of the Play Records. Each category can be of one type and hold either rows of data of that type, or subcategories (one level deep). It has a layout option to show the data in 2 columns to potentially fill up the available space better. It’s hard to explain, so we advise you to play around with these settings to see what best fits the data! Categories can also be assigned to a specific DLC or season, so stats can be tracked seperately.

Stats

A subcategory can be added as long as there is no data in the root, and new rows of data can be added within each (sub)category. Re-ordering can be done with the dots icon on the left for data, or the arrow icon at the top right to re-order the subcategories. Re-ordering categories themselves can be done with a top-level blue button. Each (sub)category can also be duplicated. It will duplicate everything including the values, but it may still be faster than re-creating every single row when data is similar.

Templates

While templates aren’t part of this initial release, we do have one template type available from the get-go that I’m sure will please a lot of people. It is possible to use an existing trophy/achievement set of the game to create a checkbox category with the achievements as content.

Using this option, it will be possible to manually track achievements for games that don’t have official achievement support, or we don’t have an integration for. The example above uses my copy of Monster Hunter Stories 2 on the Switch, and by loading in the Steam achievement set, it lets me check off the achievements I earned on my Switch game! Another example would be to use Retro Achievement sets for retro games played on original hardware.

Manual Progress Bar

Lastly, collection games will now offer a manual progress bar! This slider from 0–100 can be used to set the progress of your game. It’s a nice way to show a progress bar on games that do not have trophy/achievement support, but it will also allow you to overwrite that progress with this manual bar if you so desire. If you hate sitting at 90% because of those damn no-death/speedruns or multiplayer achievements, despite having done everything there is to do in the game, you can now set it to 100% to ease your completionist’s mind.

-----

And that's it - the most important new features of 1.10.0! We're looking forward to see in what creative ways you guys will make use of the Play Records! Feel free to share any cool implementations on Discord to give others some inspiration on how to make the most of this new feature!

New Patreon Tier: Backlog Myth

A while back a few of you brought up wanting a third Patreon tier. This isn’t something we had considered before because we are content with the Legend features we have now. While we love to show our appreciation for all the support you guys are giving us, we think that locking regular users, that may not have the means to support us even if they wanted to, out of things isn’t the way.

But after some consideration with decided to go ahead and add a new tier. The decisive argument was the fact that we learned that we are coincidentally following the typical item color coding in games with our current classes, and felt like adding an epic tier just makes sense. This new class is the Backlog Myth!

The Backlog Myth tier is €6, double the Legend tier, and gives you an epic purple color on the site and Discord. Other than that, and our eternal gratitude, perks are equal to those of the Legend tier. We are however open to hear suggestions on how to further reward these awesome people without it impacting regular users or taking too much of our development time away from other features.

A few of you already increased your pledge to be eligible for this new tier, so I think if you “upgrade” to this new tier and keep your pledge the same it won’t require anything else from you and you'll be sporting a cool purple color on the site!

We've said it many times before but we want to thank all of our Slayers, Legends and future Myths again for all the support you are giving us. Infinite Backlog has been growing slowly but steadily over the past year and we honestly couldn't have done it without you guys. It is thanks to you that we are able to keep up with the server costs, without having to resort to adding pesky ads on the site, and focus on adding cool new features and grow the community! You guys are the best!

Release 1.7.0

Today we bring you one of the most requested features on IB: Lists!

To make the most out of this new feature you can create two types of lists: public or personal. Public lists are aimed at creating fun/creative lists of games to share with others based on a certain theme, which will be discoverable on many places on the site. Personal lists are more for you personally, to showcase your favourite games or maybe organise your games in a way that is difficult to do with the game collection alone.

You also have free rein over the default display of your list, so other users can view your lists just the way you meant them to! You can add notes to each game, make a ranked list and add tags to make your lists easier to discover!

Viewing a list, wether it's yours or not, will show you your collection status of the included games, allowing you to see at a glance what games you still need (to finish). The list's display is determined by the settings of the creator, but you can change the display and sorting any way you'd like to get a different view of the list.

New public lists are featured on the homepage next to the social feed and in a future update we'll be extending this so game pages also show lists the game is included in.

We're very excited to see what creative lists you guys will come up with!

And with that we're almost at the end of the year! We do have one last, small thing planned for the end of the year so keep your eyes on Discord the next few weeks for an announcement of IB's first site event!

Release 1.6.0

We are very happy to announce the next integration for Infinite Backlog: Retro Achievements! You'll now be able to link your Retro Achievements account and import your played games and earned achievements!

Retro Achievements is a fully community-driven project that adds achievements to your favourite retro games if played through modified emulators. Always boasting about being the best at a certain retro game? Now you can prove it!

A list of all your played retro games on the achievements page.

Showing earned achievements in both hardcore (yellow border) or softcore (blue border) mode.

We've linked over 4000 Retro games to their respective games in our database to make sure imports work from the get-go. However, we do not have support for every platform yet (eg. Arduboy) and quite a few romhacks and homebrew games are missing still. We'll slowly work towards adding these but if you miss any you already played don't hesitate to let us know on Discord!

Release 1.5.0

We're very excited to bring you release 1.5.0 today! You'll finally be able to link your Xbox account to Infinite Backlog to import your games and sync your achievements!

After linking your account your played games will be added to the imports page where you can adjust the status and completion and whether you own it digital or through the Game Pass sub. As always, games that are missing will likely be listed on the under review page. (Under review games are those that couldn't be linked to a game in the database automatically and need some manual work from an admin. Once this is done, they'll appear during the next sync cycle)

Your Xbox One, Series X/S and PC achievements will also be synced. While Xbox 360 games are includes in the import, we sadly don't have access to your achievements of those games. We're still looking for an alternative way to get this information so we can hopefully add support for it in the future.

I want to give another big thank you to all our supporters, without you this integration wouldn't have been possible!

Release 1.4.0

Happy Easter everyone! Today we bring you release 1.4.0! This release highlights two new features: a public roadmap and merged game editions!

Roadmap

After receiving the question a bunch of times we decided to make our roadmap public so everyone can see what's planned for the near-future. It shows a list of features, improvements and bugs we'll tackle in the upcoming release as well as a page that shows every feature request and all known issues. Have an idea or bug report that isn't there yet? You can now report them directly on the website so it won't get lost amongst the chatter on Discord.

The roadmap can be reached through the footer, top-right user menu (desktop) or the hamburger menu (mobile) or by clicking here.

Note: While we added some of the more recent bug reports/feature requests, we're far from done adding our entire backlog (you could say it's infinite) so this is still a work in progress. Feel free to add anything you don't see on there though!

Merged game editions

When adding a game you can now select which edition(s) of the game you have. Adding an edition (eg. Collector's Edition) instead adds the main game and pre-selects the edition for you. This is all to preserve the correct links with trophy/achievement information as well as give you the opportunity to select DLC, as those are only connected to the base game and not to any of the editions.

Editions currently in your collection will stay that way, but you're free to remove them and re-add them with the new system so the proper connections are made while still being able to show off those cool editions.

Those are just the most important new features, but we’ve also added a bunch of improvements and fixed some bugs, all of which can be found in the release notes as usual.

Release 1.2.0

Today’s 1.2.0 release marks the debut of our very first Backlog Legend feature: custom tags! Anyone with the Backlog Legend class will be able to add custom tags to their games, enabling further customisation and filtering within those huge collections.

Every game can be assigned one or more tags which will in turn be available as filters on the collection list view. This will make finding the right game even easier when you can tailor your tags to your needs in any way you can think of. We're looking forward to see what handy tags you guys come up with!

By adding or editing a collection game you can easily add any existing tag or just type in a new one. Through the settings menu it's possible to edit any tag and change its color, making it even easier to distinguish your tagged games.

We've also included a few minor improvements this release, most notably the sidebar on the feed page, which is now filled with information like popular, most anitcipated, recently release and upcoming games - all based on IB's userbase!
