Hello All!

holy finale!! I went through every emotion possible it felt like. Relief at the end being the main one, thankfully. Xander really pulled through here and it was great to witness, well through what I could see through my watery eyeballs...'I love you'....sobs. I've never been so relieved to see Willows red hair in my life!!! Great twist at the end with Spike too! I only have one more season to go guys - IM NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE!!!

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 6x22

Comments

Speaking as a longtime Buffy and Supernatural enthusiast and fan of the Lucifer show, I second this. All are ensemble shows with strong fantasy elements.

Eddie Green

Fringe would definitely be a good pick!

Julian Welton

Once upon a time. Fairy tales with a twist.

Alex Prado

FRINGE. It's my favorite show and I can't get anyone to react to it...lol. X-Files would be wonderful too.

Michael Roach

I almost suggested Stranger Things, but I just assume everyone has seen it. But if she hasn't, then yes!!! So good. I also completely agree with SOA.

cruzinbosco

The Haunting of Hill House (Unparalleled in Horror/Drama) The Haunting of Bly Manor (Gothic Romance with light horror) Midnight Mass (Story of a small island town which starts to experiance miracles) The Expanse (Best Sci-Fi show ever made and has that found family aspect you like) Battlestar Galactica (The second best Sci-Fi show ever made) Arcane (Story of two sisters. Animated but amazing.) Invincible (Animated but very good) Dollhouse (Whedon show but different from Buffy/Angel) Firefly (Whedon Show but similar to Buffy/Angel) Agents of Shield (Whedons brother similar style but still noticably different. Found Family.) Stranger Things Sons of Anarchy (About bikers, loosely based on Hamlet, really great story and characters) The Last Man on Earth (Comedy 20 minute episodes)

Julian Welton

The best season finale so far in my opinion. I said last time that my most vivid Buffy memories are of the Dark Willow arc. It was strange watching again after so many years, but I felt the same emotions that I had then. The Xander/Willow scene has to be on the list of greatest Buffy moments. Not gonna lie, I put a fresh box of tissues next to me, but I only used one. Or so. One season left, Dak. It will be bittersweet saying "bye for now" to the show, but lucky for us we can rewatch your reactions for, hopefully, many years to come. Hope you and your family are doing well. Say hi to Scooby for me.

Brian Dworak

S6 was... a lot. I love aspects of it but I really dread rewatching it every time. It's very painful. I can't wait for S7 though! It's really good. Not sure what your taste is, but for other shows, I would suggest: - The X Files (218 eps + 2 movies) - Gilmore Girls (comedy-drama; 153 eps + 4 movie-length eps) - Bates Motel (psychological drama; 50 eps) - Life Unexpected (family drama; 26 eps) - Shining Vale (horror comedy; currently waiting for the 2nd season to air) - The Haunting of Hill House (miniseries; 10 eps; only series I would ever put as high as BTVS in regards to writing) - Third Watch (first responder action drama; 132 eps; my fave series ever) - Lost In Space (2018; sci-fi family; 28 eps) - Extant (sci-fi mystery drama; 26 eps) - Timeless (sci-fi drama history; 28 eps) - Lost (sci-fi adventure mystery; 121 eps) - Roswell (1999; sci-fi; 61 eps) - Bones (David Boreanaz crime comedy drama; 246 eps) - Big Sky (female-led crime drama thriller mystery; Jensen joins at some point; 47 eps)

cruzinbosco

New shows? How about some campy horror? Ash vs Evil Dead, True Blood or Bates Motel are my suggestions.

Apetass

Yes Good Omens would be awesome. :D

Claire Eyles

Rightly or wrongly, I've always interpreted this as Spike conciously seeking to have the chip removed but instead getting his subconcious desire to have his soul restored.

PaulC

Regarding a new show to react to, I‘d suggest watching a shorter show that’s not such a huge commitment (both Stargate and the X Files have over 200 episodes each). From the ones that have already been mentioned, I‘d recommend Firefly or Battlestar Galactica. Another show I think you‘d really enjoy is Good Omens - there are currently 2 seasons with 6 episodes each, the first is based on a book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Two other more „obscure“ shows I‘d enjoy seeing a reaction to (though realistically, they probably wouldn‘t win a poll): - Pushing Daisies - Life on Mars

Markus E.

Have you ever considered watching/reacting to Kdramas? They're fantastic!

TheEmpurpler

Xander saves the world for the forth time!

Thom Purdy

I'm gonna throw Battlestar Galactica into the suggestion ring! A couple other BtVS reactors are watching it currently. Great character driven show.

Kate

A fellow Trekkie I see. I second your Star Trek TNG shout!

PongPong31

I see we're recommending shows for after Buffy? I'd like to a cast a vote for any of the following, Forever Knight (Angel and other Vampire shows took a lot of influence from this), The Magicians, X-Files, Star Trek The Next Generation, True Blood, Dead Like Me, Kindred the Embraced. I might be able to supply episodes for some of these as well. :)

Claire Eyles

One more vote for Hercules and Xena from me too!

Monika

Spike has struggled all season with trying to be who he was. William the poet or Spike the demon. His arc was finally realizing that he can't be loved by Buffy without a soul. The misdirect made many people think that he was tricked into having a soul because he kept calling her a bitch and sounded threatening but remember this whole season he was been going back and forth between praising Buffy and cursing her. Even in omwf musical. I can't wait for you to see this new Spike or William.

Christopher simeon

Two episodes in one day? Callooh callay! Thank you for that. And thank you for the honesty of saying that it's basically not worth it to you to lose Tara, no matter how good the season finale is, and I must concur. You don't need THAT much darkness, and I know that was what they were going for, but maybe they shouldn't have been going for it. ... It probably wasn't Xander's place to tell Dawn about what Spike did, but I think that, in the moment, he just had enough of Dawn's "Spike's so great" routine. ... The uplift at the end of the episode is very welcome. ... I wasn't going to make show suggestions unbidden, but since you ASKED (and I know I've done this before, but) Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. I know, that's two shows, but they DO go together. And they're my other two favorites along with Buffy and Angel, so I gotta root for 'em. 🙂 ... I am looking forward to your recap!

Koz

I agree on Stargate, but I'd really push Firefly and the follow-up movie Serenity. Firefly is one of the best sci-fi series in my opinion and it's always on the list of the best SF series' that were cancelled WAAAY too early. It's only 14 episodes, but what a ride. I don't think Dak does movie reactions, but Serenity is a must as it's basically the final episode in the story. Both created by Joss Whedon and the TV show came out during the Buffy and Angel time period, with the movie coming out in 2005. Another suggestion would be Farscape, also from that early 2000s time period. An excellent show that is kind of a 'must watch' for sci-fi fans. Just saw that you had already recommended Farscape. derp.

Brian Dworak

It is worth mentioning - 6x22 is the ONLY season finale NOT written & directed by Joss Whedon. As you know "written & directed by Joss Whedon" eps are very different & he's done every season finale except this one. What do you think of that?

TheEmpurpler

Even putting aside being muzzled by the chip, Spike is an anomaly. Something that's always stood out to me, was how he acted in the episode Tabula Rasa where everyone couldn't remember who they were. Vampires are driven by that insatiable hunger and instinct but Spike didn't seem to want to bite anyone. He even later goes, "How come I don't wanna bite you then?" to Buffy. A truly fascinating character. And now you put in his soul into the mix? Let's go! Oh, and you're pretty familiar with my views on the X-Files. Couldn't hurt giving you a small nudge towards it again though, no? Nor could another to The Expanse. The best Sci-fi show in recent years :)

PongPong31

I don't often comment on your Buffy/Angel videos, but I do want to just say, now you've seen the whole thing, I love Buffy S6. I think it has some of the best writing in the series. And as much as I DO love Tara, I also love the Dark Willow storyline with all my heart. Meanwhile, if you're debating X-Files vs. Stargate, I'd vote for Stargate. Why, you may ask? Because while I think X-Files was more culturally impactful, I feel like it's a show that started strong and devolved into a confusing, unwatchable mess. And opposite that, I think Stargate started slowly, but with better writing overall and an actual master plan in mind (or at least a continuity department), such that by and large it improved as it went on. But if you're looking for a sci-fi show, I can't end my comment without noting that Farscape was better than either of them by far.

Neil Silverman

One last thing, I recommend a video on YouTube called "I Wish I Could (But Don't) Hate Buffy Season 6" by Five By Five Takes. It's not too long and spoiler free, though I'd understand if you wanted to leave that sort of thing until you've finished the series. She does a similar video that covers Season 7 as well.

PaulC

I kind of get why Xander blurted that out about Spike. Dawn made it sound like he's a good guy, and after everything that's happened and knowing what he knows, he just got tired of it and blurted it out. It's like if someone does something really horrible and everyone seems to be not giving it's due reaction, it's got to feel like being needled, and he was just kind of like, look, enough of this. This is how things are. I love this season finale. Season 7 is my second favorite after season 5, and I can't wait to see your reaction to it, Dak. Bring it on.

Raven Dark

I don't know if anyone else mentioned it during this season but the reason Giles left was because Anthony felt that he was spending too much time in the US filming Buffy and he was missing out on his daughters growing up in England so felt he needed to take a break from the show to spend more time with them. The season as a whole is about how humans are our own worst enemy and the worlds biggest monsters. Buffy with a toxic relationship, Willow with addiction issues, Xander destroying his life due to fears of turning into his father. Then we have the big bad who were humans with one of them turning out to be one of the most evil villains of the show. I also love that one of the craziest parts of this show is how many people in the fandom myself included would love the chance to just hang out with the gang, The Scoobies, despite how dangerous their lives actually are. We love them so much we just want to spend time with them danger be damned.

Collinson

Oh two episodes today

Merkavar

As far as other shows go, I'd love to see you do Farscape or Orphan Black, two great shows that I think you'd love.

PaulC

Glad you were able to enjoy the finale in the end! Season six isn't for everyone, and it's not perfect, but I do think it's one of the show's best. The themes explored - depression, addiction, misogyny, consent, gun violence - are all as relevant today as they were 20 years ago, perhaps more so in some cases. It can be tough watching our favourite charcaters crash and burn like this, but their experiences are all relatable and there is comfort to be found in knowing that you're not alone. With most of the metaphors stripped away it's the closest Buffy gets to real life, and I think that's what the big bad really is this season, not a monster or even a single person, just life. If I remember rightly, Anthony's laugh wasn't scripted, it was a blooper that ended up being used!

PaulC

this ep is so special for Xander arc because he was always afraid of being his father who uses his words to tear people down. But Xander does the opposite here. He brings back his longest and best friend from her worst depression with just his words and unconditional love. That is why Xander is the heart. He cares the most out of everyone even if it brings out his bad traits sometimes. Buffy this episode tells giles that she felt like she left something when she crawled out of her grave and last episode willow talked about how emotional dawn always gets. What makes Buffy have her emotions back fully is pulling dawn out of the grave with her this ep. Remember dawn is part of Buffy. The emotional most vulnerable part. Neglecting dawn all season has caused so much issues but now they are finally together in this fight.

Re: balance of shows/interaction— I’m honestly impressed at your current amount! Keep up your great work, and just remember to take time for yourself when you need to. Re: thoughts on shows— I have to say, I think a show you should really seriously consider is FRINGE. I think you would absolutely love it!

Audra Foxgrove

omg I would LOVE to see you react to the X-Files. Also, since I know you're a fan of Buffering (which you will be able to catch up on very soon!) TXF seems like the natural continuation, since that's the show they're covering week-to-week now. It's a great show, but definitely quite the investment with 218 episodes.

El

I really can’t wait to see you watch season 7. I’m anxious about your reaction to the upcoming Angel story because it’s gonna have some surprises for you, but I’m not so sure how you will react. I loved season 7 of Buffy and I rewatch it every once in awhile. (I’m one of those people who rereads my favorite books and rewatches my favorite shows. I think it’s a comfort thing for me. )Anyway, there are going to be twists and turns like there always are. But, the Buffy series finale that wraps it all up is done so well that I’d be hard-pressed to find another series ending I think is it’s equal. I was hoping for the same with Angel, but I don’t think they had enough time before being cancelled to wrap things up satisfactorily. A lot of us were disappointed. It is what it is though. Good luck with continuing with your reactions. I always feel like I’m watching tv with a friend when I watch your videos. Keep up the good work! You deserve all the support and love you receive.

MainTankMaisy

So an emotional finaly, I actually really like that this finale doesn't end with a fight, but ends with xander just standing in Willow's way and being there for her. That conversations is amazing. The conversation between Dawn and Buffy at the end does indeed feel like a weight lifted. A moment of understanding, where Dawn can finally see she doesn't have to be afraid of losing Buffy, or that she's here but not here. As you said, Dawn can be whiny, but if you think what she's been through in the last 2 years as a young teenager. being a ball of energy before, theres logic to it. Doesn't mean it can't be anoying, but still.... When i watched this first time, when Giles said he was dying i was just straight up in denial... "no you're not." I'm sure i missed alot of what i wanted to say, cos these episodes are a lot even when rewatching. Regarding epi 19. Juntor11 above here said it well. The Tara thing was beyrayal by the showrunners. So you hate it, but it was somehow great still. Spikes soul is an interesting twist, and also... Clem is a Gem. :D. I'll look forward to a recap or the start of S7. Its still tied with S5 for my fav season.

re: the show - My favorite thing about this finale is the Xander/Willow scene at the end. I think Xander is being completely open and honest when he says that he doesn't think he can stop her and when he demands to be first in line for the end of the world because he's earned it - it just gets to me. re: What to watch after Buffy - I'm not going to say no to X-Files. I loved that show. But be forewarned, it's mostly monster of the week episodes. It came before Buffy and was pioneering in its own way of doling out this ongoing "mythology," but it's pretty inconsistent and most of the best episodes are standalones. Also there's a pretty severe quality dropoff in the later seasons. That said, Firefly does seem like the obvious choice. Was surprised you didn't mention it - have you already seen it maybe? It has a pretty strong fanbase with a lot of overlap with Buffy fans because of Whedon. It's also only 14 episodes and a movie. It might be nice to do something shorter instead of moving onto another huge show right away. Also, I do think it's a pretty good watch.

R. Chang

I think I get what you are trying to express with the whole Tara situation. It is betrayal. We love this show and we feel like it's one of our best friends. And then the best friend stabs us in the back. You feel betrayed, deeply disappointed. How can they do that to us? That is how I felt when they killed off Tara like that. But like others have said, I got over it. It might have not been the best way to get into the Dark Willow storyline, but we got a hell of a finale out of it in the end.

Jontor11

I adore this finale - after the darkness and despair of season 6, where adult life and their own poor decisions were the real big bad, this season ends with hope - hope that things can change. The beginning of S6 features Buffy clawing her way out of her grave into darkness and demons, cast out of heaven and so very alone... and it ends with Buffy climbing out of another grave into the light, walking into a beautiful garden, with her beloved sister at her side, ready to face the future. This episode is what makes season 6 - even Seeing Red - worth it (in my opinion, of course).

Denni Caid

This is one of my favourite finales. Just the way it ends with so much hope and acceptance after so hard and long a struggle. Acceptance is a bittersweet thing, of course. Tara's still dead, Anya's still a demon, Spike still tried to r@pe Buffy, Willow's still a murderer. But it's by accepting our past choices and forgiving ourselves that we can move on. I think that's why the use of the Prayer of St Francis as the song moves me so much - the idea of wanting to give, to love, and to have faith in people as the route to happiness, to life. Embracing nature, embracing your nature. Perhaps the key line is '[grant that I may not so much seek] to be understood as to understand.' Xander saves the world by understanding Willow; Buffy saves herself by understanding her love for Dawn; even Spike has changed things for himself by understanding how much of a monster he still was. Knowledge is power; knowledge of the people you love and of who you are is not just power but grace as well. Reminds me of the last words of the S2 finale song being 'full of grace'. That's what this finale is.
