Hello All!

Dark Willow is terrifying!! Alyson is playing it perfectly though. Seeing Wil and Buffy fighting was really a tough watch, I'd rather that then see them saying hurtful things to each other mind! GILES!!! What a shockarooney! He has powers now too???? The next ep is a must watch and I will hopefully have it posted here in a couple of hours!

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 6x21

Comments

I remember an interview or panel I watched a couple years back where she and Alyson were discussing it and both commented on and agreed how it was kinda mean to do. I'm guessing the story of what happened may have changed over the years after people were more able to acknowledge Whedon's problems. Also I think she can originally have wanted the freedom to do other things in s4/5 and 6x19 credits were still a cruel joke to her as well.

Kate

While it was very cruel to include Amber Bensen in the credits in 6x19 & yes they did it just for the shock factor (& therefore it was cruel to fans), it wasn't "a cruel joke to Amber". They wanted her to be in a series regular before but she always refused bc she wanted to be free to do other things. (Or in light of recent insights, perhaps she did not want to be tied down to the show with someone toxic she didn't get along with?) Then she consented to being in the credits for 6x19 bc it was her last episode. I forget where that was said - perhaps in one of the commentaries or interviews 🤔 Don't get me wrong - it still hurts though!

This is one of my favorite episodes because my memories from originally watching are usually the Dark Willow era. I was so excited when you got to this point as I had been waiting for 6x19 the whole time just to see your mind blown as the DW storyline unfolds. Alyson Hannigan's acting is excellent here; she transforms herself fully and commits to it intensely. Every time she speaks I just stare at her face, captivated by subtle things she does with her expressions and I forget to blink. I don't think I've ever seen such a shocked and surprised reaction from you when you saw Giles show up. I wish someone would make a ''Dak's Greatest Reactions'' video compilation. I've been following you since Oct 24, 2016, which is the day you posted your reaction to The Walking Dead 7x1. I think I watched almost all the reactions to that one, but I only subscribed to a handful of people. You've been on a long, fun journey and I'm really happy for you. Take care, Dak. You're a legend.

Nowadays, instead of nerds they would be incels.

TheEmpurpler

Just finished this one, and hehehe! Your reaction to Giles at the end was GOLD. Seeing reactions to that ending is always wonderful, and you did not disappoint. LOL Loved it so much.

Raven Dark

Alison's acting in this is so amazing and subtle in this episode. There's a moment when Dark Willow talking about Willow and says "The only thing Willow was ever good for. The only good thing I had going for me. Were the moments, just moments when Tara would look at me and I was wonderful." Her facial expressions turns back to Willow just for that moment before turning back to Dark Willow with "And that will never happen again." Amazing acting.

Collinson

Still in the middle of watching this one, and wanted to try to explain Xander's line, "You've never had any tiny bit of sex, have you?" Back when this came out, nerds were still seen as creepy, uncool guys who couldn't get dates. I don't think that's the case anymore, or at least not as much. I don't know. Anyway, what Andrew said of Willow, "...before she grinds us in Jawa burgers, and not one of you has the midiclorians to stop her," is textbook nerdome. Those are Star War references. That line, back then, would have been like, ultra, super, over the top nerd. Nerds can't get dates, so if you said something like that, it probably meant you couldn't get a girl, which would mean you've never had sex. Xander could have said, "You two really are showing your nerd, aren't you?", and it would have meant the same thing. It's nerd shaming at it's finest, and it's one of the few things I don't like about this episode.

Raven Dark

So I was eating dinner while watching this and let me tell you… I almost choked when you said you almost choked!! Anyway, this is a great episode. Alyson acts her butt off and Willow is spitting some truth on everyone! I love the camera work when Willow is teleporting herself, Buffy and Dawn to the Magic Box. The transition is so cool!

Teresa Schultz

That is so true! I have 10 years clean and sober as of June 24. I know in my case, I relapsed several times. I had to work though my underlying depression and other issues to get to a point where I was less likely to relapse and more likely to handle problems in the proper way. Another thing you need is a strong support system. And with everyone dealing with their own issues and being so distant, Willow really didn’t have that!

Teresa Schultz

I've always said to people that the finale of this season isn't episode 22, but its episode 20-22. Its all snowballing hectically, but i do think they did an amazing job with the pacing. yes it hurts, so much. But the portrayal by Allison is amazing. There's soo much good dialogue in this episode. Especially to me, the dialogue between Xander and Anya, and I guess Willow's monologue against Dawn. Theres some pieces of "good" Willow shining through, where you can see the pain. Like the moment where Dawn mentions Tara, the small recoil on Willow's face. The fact that this is Willow who's the villain makes you invested, because lets be honest.... The "trio" was never really a big bad. They were a nuisance. An anoying, and with Warren often disgusting nuisance, but nowhere near the level of Glory before this season. To me this season was all about the perosnal relationships after season 5. Healing from what happened, and sometimes dealing (or not dealing) with what happened. And then when all hope is lost, there is Giles. Stepping in as the father figure he is, saying this is enouhg.. On to the next episode :D

Before I watch your reaction I just wanted to touch on an issue you raised last episode, that having Willow go down this path of dark magic feels like a step backwards for her character development considering how well she seemed to be doing in her recovery from addiction. The thing for me though is, yes we saw her go through withdrawals, we saw her resisting the urges to use magic, setting boundaries with Amy, talking about going to a 'spellcaster's anonymous' group, but what we never saw, or at least what was never indicated is Willow doing any sort of inner work to really confront and deal with the reasons why she became an addict in the first place. Just from my own experience: without truly looking at, and working through, the underlying reasons for any addiction then the chances of relapse, or of replacing one bad coping mechanism with another, can all too often remain a very high risk. When you're faced with a major life stressor, and losing the one you love in such horrific circumstances is about as major a life stressor as you can get, then that risk of turning back to those old, negative coping mechanisms is increased that much more. Under those circumstances Willow immediately turning back to not just magic, but the most powerful of dark magics after suffering such a huge loss makes sense; it's what she knows, it's what she does, it's what she has always turned to.

My first watch ever I was watching out of order. So season 6 was actually the first season of Buffy I ever watched lol which is to say I thought this show was MUCH darker as a whole than it was, and then watching the rest of the show, getting to know Willow as she’s introduced, I thought, is this the same person?? But I think it also makes it more special, this finale really shows what can happen to addicts who lose what they’re fighting for, and how grief can be a life altering thing and the show drives it home by making it happen to a character we love and support and we know is a good person, who just has been pushed to her limits. As much as I’d have liked at least ONE member of the Scooby gang to have a solid relationship by the end of the 6th season, and would have loved for Amber Benson to have stayed, having rewatched the show for years, the season 6 finale arc has become a precious one to me. Also yes, the Giles entrance remains ICONIC, like dad is home and he’s here to take care of business.

bethany

you would think after 6 seasons willows arc would be almost finished, trust us when we say stick with it Dakara, you havent seen anything yet.

TV Guides spoil TV routinely. Many times I've walked into Morrisons and seen 'X DIES?!' as the banner headline, about some soap opera or other. Last time that happened was a week ago. In 2001, Sky One on several occasions promoted the upcoming airing of The Gift with a closeup shot of Buffy's gravestone. In 2007, the Daily Mirror featured a double page spread explaining why a character from Lost had been killed off - 3 days before the UK airing of the episode where they were killed off. A year previously, a tiny article in the same paper explained that another character had been killed off because their actor wanted it - again some time before their death episode aired.

Ed Green

"Today, social media would have spoiled it..." TV Guide spoiled "The Body". It hits newsstands, and I picked up my copy, with the listings for the week that "The Body" aired (with its capsule description of said episode) the Monday before "I Was Made to Love You" aired on Tuesday. The reaction that I recall from the time was... not exclusively but predominantly crickets. "Spoilerphobia" truly is a modern phenomenon of the last 15 years or so.

AlyAdmirer

I'm one of the few that always liked this particular plot line far more in theory than execution. Whiplash with the characters for sure.

Kate

Now tell me seeing Dark Willow wasn't worth it? All the suffering. All the well, everything. Giles' entrance is without doubt the coolest, most badass entrance in all of television.
