I got flustered guys...you guys know the scene haha. I loved it, won't lie. Spike has a crush doesn't he??? Joyce better be okay, I'm genuinely worried. Also, Riley isn't doing too good, he's not physically healthy and he's a little lost generally too :( I think they need a good chat about their relationship & what they want out of it.

The one person he’s finding to be his rock isn’t reciprocating the same levels of the relationship and it’s hard for him. That’s clear to see with his looks and his pointed conversations. Speaking as a veteran of Spangel vs Spuffy, Dawson/Joey vs Pacey/Joey and Wincest vs Destiel, I think the middle aged women can be the meanest lol. (For the record, I am a middle aged woman firmly in the Spuffy, Pacey/Joey and Destiel camps.)

I guess it shows you his popularity as Buffy's love interest! Ship and let others ship. You'd think now that we're middle-aged we'd follow that rule lol

Like, if you want to have an argument or a shipping war, can you just do it in a private chat? It’s already in the comments of this post, and I am just… so tired.

2022-11-09 00:40:34 +0000 UTCAn observation I've made more recently is that the writers seemed to have a different perspective on Riley and Buffy's relationship this season than season 4. For the longest time, whenever I think of Riley and Buffy's relationship, I'd think of episodes like this or the dynamic we've seen in episodes so far. Likewise, I had this long held idea that season 4 itself wasn't any good, but as I re-watched the series, I realized that while the season 4 arc didn't shape up well, there were a lot of good standalone episodes; and surprisingly, I like Buffy and Riley more in season 4 than I previously thought I did. Part of that may be that I started watching regularly around the end of season 4/start of season 5, and then caught up, so my initial impressions of Riley were episodes like this one, where he's just sort of bland and two dimensional.

2022-11-09 00:32:17 +0000 UTCTotally agree with what you're saying about Riley putting ALL of his eggs into the Buffy basket... and it's too much. Too much for him, too much for her. BUT, I think it's important to acknowledge that this is the way it is because Buffy is LITERALLY the only thing he has left from his life post season 4. He had a career, friends, a mentor, a mission... and when he abandoned the Initiative to join Buffy, he left everything else in his life behind. His mentor is dead, his best friend is dead, his mission is gone and his career is over. He really only has one thing left to depend on, and that is Buffy. It's not a sustainable attitude... it's not good for a relationship. But it's understandable. It's not easy to completely rebuild your life from scratch in 6 months. I also want to point out (just because a lot of people seem to miss it) but this episode marks the 3rd time Riley told Buffy he loves her... and this is the 3rd time it wasn't said back. So not only does he have nothing but Buffy left, but he also is questioning if she even feels the same way he does.

2022-11-09 00:01:36 +0000 UTCDak intently watching the last scene: Spike rips shirt off; Dak licks lips. Spike and Buffy kiss; Dak shocked, starts swearing and watches even more intently. Spike wakes up; Dak exclaims "it IS a dream" (but whose? 😉), but doesn't say thank God! - You got it bad, girl! 🙂 What's wrong with Joyce? She didn't recognise Dawn. Other people have had odd reactions to Dawn. Any connection? Should we worry about Willow? Tara seems to be concerned. And Willow does have a tendency to not let ethics get in her way when she wants something. But, Tara seems very ethical and Willow listens to her.

I agree with the chemistry between Riley and Buffy, I think in the beginning of season 4 there was some, but then never really developped and turned stale. It's not my ship for sure. But i think deep down I'll be angel/buffy always. Now that had chemistry. Riley was stubborn here and In agree, the way he acts he drives himself away from buffy aswell as buffy away form him. Harmony is the usual bout of laughs, she really is the high school mean girl that got stuck (literally) and didnt grow up. I love spike's comedy input in the episodes. Spike's infatuation with buffy is gonna be interesting for sure, and again her acting with that scene with Riley was on point. Willow is precious as always and getting hella strong. The thing with buffy's mom was worrying. I mean how could she forget dawn, shes been there all along :D. trolls aside though, how scared must dawn have been when her mum collapsed, with saying that aswell. I really do like this season, and look forward to the rest. Lets see what shenennigans spike has up his sleeve.

2022-11-08 22:19:56 +0000 UTCI don't at all agree that there is no reason other than plot armour. It's a fundamental part of Buffy's character that she won't kill those who are not directly menacing. So her letting him live is fundamental to the ethos of the show.

2022-11-08 20:44:18 +0000 UTCAs if Spike betraying the Scoobies by the end of season 4 wasn't reason enough, this is pretty much the point that begins to strain credulity that Buffy or the others would continue to let Spike "live". It hasn't made much sense before, regardless of him being "harmless" (which he really wasn't), but now it makes even less sense. Here' to plot armor.

I've seen others comment about it, particularly with him playing basketball in this episode. I don't follow sports, but evidently he had a notable basketball performance during that time. He was inducted into the Erie Sports Hall of Fame.

2022-11-08 18:40:09 +0000 UTCI have a theory about vampires that could explain how they smoke - or talk or do anything that would otherwise require functions of organs that are no longer functioning. Basically it goes that vampires actually exist just out of sync with normal reality. Their human bodies remain here, but when they turn, their demonic form is just out of phase with our dimension; containing all of the necessary organs to do the things they do. So in effect, they do breath, but what they breath out wouldn't necessarily be in our dimension; and it wouldn't necessarily be air humans would want to breath in after going through the demonic equivalent of a pulmonary system. This is also why they have no reflection, and why sunlight burns them; being out of sync with our dimension changes how light interacts with them. With sunlight, it's sort of like using a magnify glass to start a fire. Drinking blood helps keep them anchored, at least partially, in this dimension. Older vampires gradually gain more purchase in our dimension (like how the Master had skeletal remains). And when they get "dusted"? They don't actually turn to dust. Piercing the heart with a stake un-anchors them from this dimension and they end up in the hell dimension that the Old Ones retreated to; leaving behind an atomized particulate during the dimensional transfer, which gets mistaken for their remains.
