Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reaction 4x18

Please use one of the links at the bottom of this post to watch this video

Hello All!

GILES IS HOT AF, there I said it! Okay moving swiftly on... This one was such an odd one but a fun one. Seeing Buffy & Riley get erm, heated was fun for my eye balls but seeing students touch a wall and reach the big O' was odd for my eye balls too! Comedy was strong with sprinkles of memorable moments so it's a yes a from me.

I filmed this prior to my 7 day break, watched ep 19 yesterday & OH MY GOD...I will try and edit & upload for Thursday!

Look forward to reading your comments as always, have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reaction 4x18

Comments

This is an Iconic episode for me just because of Giles' singing. I often watch that clip on YT. Easily the best cover of that song. Also I don't know if anyone has told you yet, they probably have. But Amber Bensen (Tara) played a vampire in the early seasons of SPN. She was a good vampire? She had a nest of vampires who just fed on animals and things, then the Hunter.... Gordon, tried to kill her but Sam and Dean stopped him.

William Lawrence

makes sense!! Thank you! <3

aww. Lenore :(

Amber Benson - she probably sounds so familiar as she plays Tara and I mentioned she's going to be at Crossroads 5 Superntural convention this month. I think I mentioned it on stream.

Sharon Owen

Xander is neither a narcissist nor self-centred. He wouldn't risk his life to help his friends - as he does again this episode - if that was the case.

You really do slay these episodes then, Dak? No wonder you love Faith so much. 🙂 Don't get distracted by all the sex (not on a repeat viewing, anyway). Remember, comedy episode = character development and/or foreshadowing. Willow's crush on Giles was signposted a lot in seasons 1 & 2, including her having a picture of the two of them in her locker (seen in I Robot, You Jane and Nightmares). Forrest seems to be impulsive under pressure - he used the elevator in an earthquake despite Maggie Walsh pointing out to him (in Hush) that they should use the stairs in an emergency. The student who first touched the, er, stimulating wall was one of Buffy's beer-buddy cavemen friends. He was holding a beer this time too. Beer, bad!

To my mind it's maybe an excuse to have the message 'sitting in judgment on people for sexuality is wrong' right before next episode. It was 2000, so maybe they wanted to get that message in first.

What was on xanders face at the end? like a drip of hair dye?

Merkavar

Maybe I missed something but I never really got this episode. Like was it just an excuse to have like an episode long sex scene and a bunch of moaning?

Merkavar

I like how much you enjoyed this one.

His brother, Murray Head, was also in the 1971 UK production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

ASH is now 68 and as fine as ever. Here he is at a fan convention singing Behind Blue Eyes live in 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7cQ5pzHQ4U&ab_channel=PhilipBrady. Also ASH from the Rock Opera 'Repo The Genetic Opera' in a duet with a Alex Vegas ('Let the Monster Rise') https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad1qRUkjYZ0&ab_channel=VariousArtists-Topic. Also also, interview and live singing with guitar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyub-rZ8JEk&ab_channel=LivvyandChrissieMedia. :D

I think I might have seen some drool around 30 minutes lol :) Yes that was Anthony Head real singing voice. He’s acted in many musicals and even played Frank N Furter in the in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He comes from an acting family and I think someone else mentioned he has a brother who had a hit single with One Night in Bangkok. As for the episode it’s not a fan favourite but I love it for the Xander Anya interactions.

IDEA/SUGGESTION FOR DAKARA for a different video format for the finale (4x22) It could look like a little early to talk about this, but I'm aware that you have a busy schedule with a lot of responsibilities and you don't just watch tv shows during the day, so it seemed right to anticipate this idea to give you the necessary time to organize yourself, if you decide to be interested of course. The format that I want to propose you can be summarize in 5 points. 1 Reserve yourself an adequate amount of time after finishing with your usual video. It doesn't have to be immediately after, it can even be during the following day. This point is key. 2 Record your normal video as usual, but wait before uploading it. 3 Taking advantage of the time you reserved in point 1, rewatch the episode once or twice by your own, take notes if you think to need them, rewatch previous episodes or scenes if you need to refresh your memory, etc. 4 Record another video in, what we could call, a free format. The idea of this video is a critique, an analyses, a sort of a stream of thoughts and impressions, kinda what you usually do but way more in depth and with minimal editing. You could scroll back and forth in real time the video of the episode, not to rewatch it but as a reference for you and us about what you are talking about (just an idea). 5 When ready, upload both, one after the other to avoid to be influenced by our comments. I realize that if you decided to do this, or something alike, there may be a delay in the release of the video, but I think it would be worth it. Of course I can't speak for anyone but me, but, if others were equally interested, and obviously if you think to be able to find the time, I believe you should take in consideration the idea. Consider also that once you have made room in your schedule, you will always have the freedom to withhold the final decision after watching the episode.

*sees that Dak has watched ep 19* Yay! Finally, I can say something I have been wanting to say since Willow first lied about doing magic with Tara in A New Man. *sing-song voice* I get to say it, I get to say it.... I am making this comment before watching ep18's reaction, so that no one says it before me, and having not seen your reaction to ep19, there is every chance you figured this out already, but I just love talking about this, so I'll say it anyway. You've been wondering about her lying, but also her being so secretive about their relationship. The thing you have to understand is, when these episodes aired, there was still a lot of fear of judgement from the LGBTQ+ community. Even with friends. You'd be amazed how quickly even those you love can turn on you when they find out your gay. Willow was beginning to have, and struggling with, emerging feelings for Tara. Feelings she would not have fully understood, and would have been afraid of. Feelings she would have denied to herself, and to a degree, may have made no sense. She was in love with Oz, and back then, and even now, there is a lot of feelings among the LGBT+ community that having feelings for both genders means you aren't really gay. The fear can be so bad that you become afraid that if anyone sees you together, even if you aren't acting romantic toward each other, that others will somehow know. That they will see it. IMO, that's why Willow didn't notice Buffy's odd behavior when she was Faith. When you're really afraid of or anxious about something, sometimes you are so hyper focused on it that you don't notice things around you or things others are doing. That's why she was so nervous, and why she let go of Tara's hand so fast. That's why she was behaving so awkwardly., as you pointed out. Willow wasn't hiding Tara because she was ashamed of her. She was hiding their relationship. It was fear of coming out. That whole arc is so beautifully handled, and I love how the show let it happen slowly, with little hints, trusting viewers to wait and get it on their own. Every time you asked about her behavior toward Tara, I wanted to tell you so badly, it hurt. LOL I was like wait for it! WAIT FOR IT!!! Sorry this got so long. Off to watch this reaction now, and can't wait to see ep19!

It's definitely weird to see such an amazing moment in with this episode of all things.

Even if it doesn't seems to be particularly appreciated by many, perhaps because it's mostly a stand alone episode, I honestly like this episode. I would say that it's a mystery/horror story with the scoobies having to figure out what's going on to save Buffy and Riley. Somehow it reminds me some of the episodes from the first season, that I really like. The ending may seem too fast and easy but, after they discovered that it's all caused by some kind of residual lingering psychic energy, all they have to do is finding a way to break the effect. So, at the end, it's fine. I would have a couple of complains about the episode anyway. Xander hitting on the girl at the party just because he had a fight with Anya. It felt, to me, quite an overreaction for a simple quarrel but, more important, Xander's character seems to slip, on and off, again in season 3 mode, narcissist, self-centred and, generally, unable to manage a mature relationship. It's true that, at the end, he refuses to kiss her even when he has the chance, but still … eww … if feels wrong. If instead they'd made her hitting on Xander it would have been different, it would have boosted his ego and gave him the confidence to face Anya and deal with their problem in an adult way. A nice occasion of growth for the character gone basically wasted, and it's a pity because Xander matured quite a bit in this season, and in a nice consistent way. I can say for sure that Xander in season 4, is my favourite version of Xander. Oh well, it is what it is. Xander and Anya. They don't give us a satisfying resolution of the fight between them, Anya saves Xander, together they save Buffy and Riley, and then the episode basically ends. Last little thing, the little part with the Initiative, Forrest and Graham, is basically a set up that it doesn't bring to any kind of pay off. So basically is a waste of time.

Lmaoo this might be the worst episode of the show if not for Giles singing... but because of that, It gets like 40 extra points. Also Spike and Anya chilling.... I like that. You made this more fun than the episode is lol

Bisibia

Always appreciate the drumming dak hehe always makes me smile 🙂 , fun episode this had no idea what was happening to begin with lol spike as always was fantastic but makes me miss Dru more and more we sure are flying through this show can you believe we are almost done with season 4 mind blown . As always huge thanks for the cracking reaction 🤗

Ian

Really enjoyed this episode. Giles was a shock to us all when this first aired - Anthony Stewart Head really is incredibly talented. Note - he's the younger brother of Murray Head, who had a big hit with "One Night in Bangkok", from the musical Chess, in the mid-80s. And Spike was hilarious in this episode, as you noted. I don't think the intention was for it to appear as though Tara was shaking the house, only that she was the first to witness it happening. I wouldn't say this is one of my favorites, but it was definitely fun.

Neil Silverman

You’re right, it is an odd one. I find this show really thinks outside the box for some villains and storylines. Some really hit like Hush, others not so much. This wasn’t awful, imo, but it would have been a really weak one had not been for Anya, Spike, and Giles

Gabe Morales

It’s funny how Anya is the new Cordelia of the group in terms of no tact, brutal honesty 😂. It is in a different way though. Cordy knows how to behave around people, picking up on social cues and what not, she just didn’t care, especially during her run on Buffy. She’s grown as a person over on Angel though. Anya is pretty new to being human so things like behaving tactfully and not just hitting people right between the eyes with her takes is a completely alien concept. Great reaction and welcome back!

Gabe Morales

This is an odd little episode. I hadn't seen it in awhile. On one hand, I don't love the plot of this one...I just find it sorta weak compared to some of the batsh*t crazy evils they go up against these days; but there are so many funny lines and scenes throughout to make up for that. I really loved the time spent with Spike and Anya. Some of those scenes made me laugh out loud; especially when Spike talked himself out of staying to help. Willow's expression seeing Giles in the coffee shop was all of us. Wow..... what a gorgeous voice. *swoon* RE: Tara's sudden anger on the stairs -- I don't know for sure; but I assumed her Flash of disgust/anger was tied to her being so in tune with the house. I can't imagine the old lady would have looked too fondly on girls being with girls; so when Willow touched her knee it had the opposite effect of others. That's TOTALLY just a guess. I don't believe that scene is ever alluded to again, so I think it's more just a case of it not being well explained. That said, I know you've seen E19 so I'm sure we'll have more to discuss about Tara after that one. :) I'm glad you had a laugh with this episode. Be well. xo
