Angelus is BACK, temporarily of course... The intensity felt so real though, synthetic Angelus or not! Rebecca was an interesting and complex character. Seeing how those around her reacted in her presence was telling. We had Cordy, who was a big fan and admired her so much, wanting to BE her. Angel who was infatuated by her from the get go and trying not to let himself feel. Simon who clearly cared for her but went about it in the wrong way entirely. Then Rebecca herself trying to take things into her own hands and it back firing in a huge way. Great ep, bring on the next one.

This episode has a new novelty for me; last spring I was in a community theatre production of "A Doll's House," which is the play Cordelia is in at the beginning of the episode. I played the role of Torvald. The second I saw the name in the script, I immediately recognized it from Cordy's line. I tried to channel Alexis' character of Wesley in playing the role.

2022-11-22 05:52:36 +0000 UTCI deeply love this episode. It's probably my 2nd favorite monster/case-of-the-week in the first 3 seasons. I love the idea that Angelus is always in the background trying to escape or at least influence Angel to do wrong, something that isn't inconsistent with canon for vampires in the Buffyverse, though we can't really talk about most of the evidence for it yet, lol. I love Cordy acting well when it counts (LINE!) and being hilariously clingy to Rebecca, and Wes standing up when we know it doesn't come easy to him. I even weirdly love Rebecca, who is 100% terrible for drugging someone to manipulate them, mostly because the actress who plays her manages to make her sympathetic somehow? Angel's instant sympathy to her over her loneliness always gives me a pang. And the fact that David Boreanaz lets a tear slip when he's talking about how much he wants something warm after she drugs him? One of his better acted scenes.
