It all started with Uncle Tupelo with the Whiskey town and Bakersfield musician bridge to the Ryan Adams'/Wilco on one end of the center and Allison Kraus on the other part of the center (the cool kids and the mainstream country folks who might have played in an indie/punk band at one point). Over the Rhine fits that right of the center part of the scale with the Drive By Truckers. O Brother Where Art Thou is where it all fell apart and the hicklib late 00s (appalachia-core) people wanted to be like them (hell, look at taylor swift) and then you have the people now who want to be like those people! When I went to college, folks like Iron and wine and whoever was the Jason isbell of the time (and that guy from the mavericks) were the most played. Oliver Anthony is like 15 years too late.
