INTEMPERANCE VIII - Chapter 21, Irreconcilable Differences
Added 2024-08-26 08:18:08 +0000 UTCI am back to work now and back to my normal level of writing and posting chapters. Only two this month but I'll shoot for three in September. Several plot threads are resolved in this chapter. As always, let me know how I'm doing.

Had to reread this one again for Caydee’s show and tell. Fuckin A!

2024-10-27 14:37:49 +0000 UTCThere is still a lot of story to tell. Not even close to the finale, though Book VIII is getting close to completion.

2024-10-09 02:45:54 +0000 UTCIf you were going to be stuck for a while, this was a hell of a chapter. While I don't want it to end, this wouldn't have been a bad series finale.

2024-10-09 00:02:17 +0000 UTCJust normal life issues combined with a bit of writer's block. I'm hoping to have the next chapter out today as I finally broke through the wall.

2024-10-01 23:01:51 +0000 UTCI understand you have a full other life. An RN in an emergency room environment. When I first started reading your stories I believe you were a trainee EM paramedic. Later went to Nursing school. My first wife was an RN I I totally understand what that means. At that time I believe you were living in Petalma/Santa Rosa area of CA. I was living in Marin and working in SF. I later moved my offices to Marin after the onset of Covid. I also have written stories, not published, but scholarly articles and later legal articles. Only the later ever published since i realised early I had no talent for writing stories. You do . Hopefully you have many more to share. I am getting old, but I enjoy what you publish for your, I expect, broad audience. As you have a talent I can only admire. I hope all is well in the "Steiner household."

2024-09-30 05:04:42 +0000 UTCI see someone else today commented on what I was was wondering about. Your last post was more than a month ago. A couple of weeks later you said you said you would have two or maybe three more postings in September. But none to date. Are you well?
Roger
2024-09-30 04:41:58 +0000 UTCwhy no stories after 26th August. is there any changes

2024-09-30 02:10:25 +0000 UTCThe figures for MDP for the V-Tach CD are strange compared to those for previous CD's, especially the 80,000$ for manufacturing and distributing 100,000 CD's . In Intemp VI, the cost National charged in June 1999 was 200,000$ for 1 million CD's for Winter Frost. If the cost for the V-Tach CD is 10% above cost, that would mean that the cost is approx. 72,500$ per 100,000 CD's, which means that the cost increased almost 365% in 4.5 years. Promotion is expressed as a rate. For Winter Frost they charged 25% in 1999, while for V-Tach they only charge 20% in 2004. I don't know the wholesale price for CD's in 1999, but assuming it is 10$, these figures result in KVA-revenue of 7.3$ per CD for Winter Frost and 8.075$ per CD for V-Tach, which is an 11% increase. Given that wholesale increased 10%, I wouldn't call National's bid considerable lower than their typical one.

2024-09-06 11:15:37 +0000 UTCThere is no real posting schedule. I post the chapters when I'm done writing and editing them. On average, 2-3 per month. Depends on my real life job and life issues.

2024-09-06 07:53:41 +0000 UTCExcellent story, I'm captivated. i am also a new subscriber, could you please tell me your publishing schedule, many thanks.

2024-09-06 01:12:20 +0000 UTCTrolls: recent article about Washington Commanders executive making ill-advised comments to an “undercover reporter” made me think he has never read the Intemperance story.

2024-09-04 16:03:50 +0000 UTCIt will need to be retconned out of the story during the publication edit. My bad.

2024-08-31 17:39:33 +0000 UTCSeeing all the kerfuffle about the Oasis reunion and dynamic pricing, I couldn't help but think about this story and the premium pricing. I don't see Matt being alive in 2020s for Intemp to address it.

2024-08-31 17:12:09 +0000 UTCI'd love to read a crossover of Meghan feeding on Jake (or actually anything to take us back to the world of the Cognate!)
JC
2024-08-31 10:56:42 +0000 UTCwhat about the asteroid one? that's a different universe right? and I think there were a few others as well...
JC
2024-08-31 10:55:32 +0000 UTCjust love this universe and keen to see what else you write in the future :)
Steve Braden
2024-08-31 10:17:47 +0000 UTCjust a small typo" Soon, her face was between Laura’s legs, licking and sucking her wet lips, plunging her tongue in and out. Later’s taste was strong and sent increasing waves of lust through Celia’s body.
Steve Braden
2024-08-31 10:16:48 +0000 UTCThey are. I suppose Jake and company could be in the vampire universe. Perhaps they may have even been fed upon by Meghan at some point. They would never realize it, though.
Al Steiner
2024-08-31 08:50:05 +0000 UTCI think the Martian and WW3 ones are all the same universe?
Mr. Plastic
2024-08-31 08:18:06 +0000 UTCwell that's only one universe - there are others that you created as well, right? there's the WW3 one, the one where the asteroid hits, the Martian one, the one with vampires...
JC
2024-08-31 05:06:03 +0000 UTCMaybe in the far future, but not while they have so many other things on the plate.
Al Steiner
2024-08-31 04:54:24 +0000 UTCWill fix in the next edit.
Al Steiner
2024-08-31 04:53:44 +0000 UTCIf they were in the same universe then Jake, Celia, Laura and the others would have to deal with a major world war in a year or two, so no, not in the same universe.
Al Steiner
2024-08-31 04:53:14 +0000 UTCHuh? Why couldn't they after the divorce? Everyone knows they are still co-parents, friends, and business partners.
JC
2024-08-30 11:00:32 +0000 UTCIt's too bad that Jake and Celia never put out a duo CD together. Too late now (unless J&C claim it was recorded while they were married).

2024-08-29 13:25:16 +0000 UTCGreat story, Al and ending with Cadyee playing her moozik was a very nice touch!

2024-08-29 11:23:43 +0000 UTCMaybe you’ve addressed this before but do you think about any of your far ranging sci-fi/ fantasy stories being in the same universe as Intemperance? Just curious but I think what made me consider that is thinking about Caydee and her generation and what they will be dealing with in the future.
Mr. Plastic
2024-08-28 01:44:28 +0000 UTCToo bad Caydee didn't include the harmonica also.

2024-08-27 09:47:49 +0000 UTCWell, we wine snobs will overlook your viticultural flights of fancy as the damn good storytelling that it is ;-) — but I feel it's incumbent upon me to point out that over the hill from Jake's residence in New Zealand is some prime terroir for producing Chards and Pinots. And it was just around 2005 when the Waipera Valley near Christchurch started producing some pretty awesome wines. All the Enzed winemakers seem to know the Californians — it's a pretty internationally incestuous industry. Jake could get in at the ground floor of a lucrative beverage future if or when CD sales begin to crash in the Intemperance Universe (which should be happening pretty soon, shouldn't it?). I've never heard of an Enzed Merlot, though. That might be a deal-breaker for Jake. Correction: They seem to produce Merlot on the North Island in Hawkes Bay and up in Aukland. Damned if I've ever seen any, though! — and I've tasted a lot of North Island wines.

2024-08-27 06:16:43 +0000 UTCReally enjoyed the kindergarten bits. Typo or pun on p17? Where the kids "divided up into their groups and cliches"
SL
2024-08-27 06:07:06 +0000 UTCThe songs that Caydee played with only her acoustic guitar would not sound like the studio versions, obviously, just the primary melody and the vocals. Thus, Nights would probably be a little more up-tempo than the studio version and Moon would be down-tempo.
Al Steiner
2024-08-27 01:18:33 +0000 UTCIt is your right to quibble.

Al Steiner
2024-08-26 22:19:50 +0000 UTCStill not sure where I'm going with the Laura's family thing. Like everything else, the narrative will write itself when the time comes.
Al Steiner
2024-08-26 22:18:50 +0000 UTCI would not anticipate that happening.
Al Steiner
2024-08-26 22:17:38 +0000 UTCThe kindergarten show and tell scene with Caydee was a great read. Thank you for the latest chapter. Looking forward to where the Kingsley clan goes from here.

2024-08-26 20:55:33 +0000 UTCI'll quibble a little bit on the wine stuff, since I have vineyard land of my own about 25 miles from where the KVA winery is. The area is better suited to Rhônes - grenache, syrah, mourvedre, etc. than to Bordeaux, such as merlot. In particular, merlot was. a bit "past it" by the early 2000s. You will recall the line in Alexander Payne's film "Sideways" where Paul Giamatti says "I am not drinking any fucking merlot!" in an alleyway in Los Olivos. I'm not saying no one grows merlot in the area - but I guarantee you no one grows $65.00 a bottle merlot in that area, even with a celebrity label. You have to go to Napa to find that, and that's legit because the climate up there is better for Bordeaux grapes.
Tim Blackington
2024-08-26 19:52:44 +0000 UTCGreat chapter. Quite a change in tempo between the two songs. Played them both on YouTube and imagined a musical child singing the words.
Artulo
2024-08-26 18:12:45 +0000 UTCGlad to hear you are feeling well enough to go back to work. For the next edit of the chapter there is a typo toward the bottom of page 4. “And Joey likes Jake now, doesn’t hi?” The "hi" should be a "he".
Adam
2024-08-26 16:44:04 +0000 UTCAl’s talent for transforming a simple notion, such as Cadyee playing for Show and Tell, into a profound exploration of the kindergarten classroom's dynamics and the broader community is nothing short of remarkable.
Kevin Gates
2024-08-26 16:33:33 +0000 UTCPointing out a typo: asked Jessica is she could sit in a chair. Probably ought to be 'if she could sit'.

2024-08-26 14:20:13 +0000 UTCWhat a cool end to that chapter! Sorry that most of the kids in Caydee's class are dicks, though.
Eric
2024-08-26 14:13:08 +0000 UTCAmazing! Caydee making friends and capturing the audience in her hand! Al, that's a great chapter f'sure. I like the potential to work Laura's family - and their weird dynamics - into the storyline.
Adam Driscoll
2024-08-26 14:00:50 +0000 UTCMaybe Caydee can sing on the song about Cap that jake is working on?
