INTEMPERANCE VII - Chapter 23, I Remember You
Added 2023-12-24 04:34:39 +0000 UTCThis was supposed to be the last chapter of the book, but, as things work out, I will need at least one more to wrap it up. This one turned out to be more than I was expecting. Please... please do not read too much into this chapter. I'm merely catching up with some old characters from the past and where they are now. As always, let me know how I'm doing as your feedback helps drive the plot.

2024-01-15 03:07:16 +0000 UTCInteresting video on the downfall of rock music in the 1990s. Al, you have done your research on this topic. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=reesdiAbvk4

2024-01-14 04:22:47 +0000 UTCI just caught up with Intemperance having not read it for a while. I went back to book 3 and read from there. Now I am one chapter (or maybe two?) from the end. It’s a great series and I almost can’t wait for another two weeks to read more. Well done Al Steiner!

2024-01-13 17:17:43 +0000 UTCIt'll be corrected in the final edits.

2024-01-05 11:55:18 +0000 UTCThere is one chapter left in Book 7. As usual, I underestimated when I started Book 7 how much story I would have to tell to get to the end point. There will be a Book 8.

2024-01-05 11:54:47 +0000 UTCSomeone else mentioned it, but I thought I would chime in as well. I started reading your stuff on StoriesOnline with Aftermath, which I've since read three times. I moved on to A Perfect World and Greenies, and Intemperance... Like Aftermath, I've read all of your stories multiple times, and I always find something new to enjoy with each reading. I've even considered printing them out and binding them in leather to put them on my shelves with the other authors I've enjoyed over the years. It's difficult to consider that there is only one chapter left in this epic saga, and I'm selfishly disappointed that I don't have your latest chapter to look forward to. I hope you keep writing, so I can keep reading your stories. Thanks for all your work and time.

2024-01-04 17:17:25 +0000 UTCThat's horrible. I don't know why anyone would stay in a "marriage" like that.

2023-12-28 22:45:41 +0000 UTCI am pretty sure it's supposed to be Gahn - please at least pick one and stick to it!
JC
2023-12-28 12:55:48 +0000 UTCI no longer even remember. I should have chosen a more unambiguous name back in the beginning.
Al Steiner
2023-12-28 12:03:03 +0000 UTCis Greg's last name Gahn or Ghan? You spell it both ways a few times in this chapter as well as in previous ones.

2023-12-27 13:25:17 +0000 UTCi love this chapter, though it's very cynical about relationships, especially that ending. Horrible to think people would deprive their spouses for weeks.

2023-12-27 11:50:49 +0000 UTCThat was a pretty damn cool chapter. I particularly enjoyed the last section - Jake's past meeting his present - as a great way to tie things up. On the other hand *shakes fist* your chapter title has that damn song stuck in my head! Happy holidays to you & yours, dude.

2023-12-25 06:45:50 +0000 UTCThat was exactly what I intended with those scenes. Jake was once a normal human being and he remembers people who were influential in his pre-fame past.
Al Steiner
2023-12-25 06:41:10 +0000 UTCI kind of had you in mind when I said not to read too much into the chapter, my friend. No dark conspiracies here, just people from Jake's past and what they think about him now.
Al Steiner
2023-12-25 06:40:27 +0000 UTCFixed in the edit. Hope you otherwise enjoyed the chapter.

2023-12-25 06:39:34 +0000 UTCMatt is just Matt. He's the easiest character to write dialogue for, also the most enjoyable with the possible exception of Caydee. I did plan to have him ask Jake who the fat chick was and have a conversation about that, but I was not able to squeak it in. Even Matt would not have asked that in her presence. I'm sure he asked about it in the green room, but that was off-page.
Al Steiner
2023-12-25 06:38:55 +0000 UTCThank you. I do like to go back and visit previous characters when appropriate. I had envisioned doing this for Jake's solo tour but decided to wait for the Intemp reunion instead. And we haven't heard from all previous characters yet. There will be more.

2023-12-25 06:32:26 +0000 UTCIt was a fun chapter to write. I did have to go back and read a lot of Book 1 to write it, but that was fun too.

2023-12-25 06:31:03 +0000 UTCI like to hear stories like this. As I've said before, when I first started writing Intemp, the story was supposed to be about the internal strife of the band demonstrated in Book 2, but when I found out how badly these bands were exploited by the record companies back in the 70s and 80s, that changed the entire focus of the tale.

2023-12-25 06:30:16 +0000 UTCThe people they have touched along the way... very humanising.

2023-12-25 03:43:32 +0000 UTCThanks for your heads up not read too much into this chapter, but with all that attention that you lavished on those two women who were obsessing over Jake, I was getting a feeling that this was going to have a Sopranos ending. You've only got one chapter left after this one? Really? Happy holidays. Have a great trip. Cheers!

2023-12-24 08:16:07 +0000 UTCAl, thanks so much for this chapter. It’s the sort of character development and exposition that keeps bringing me back to your writing for what seems like 20 years - if not longer!

2023-12-24 07:31:54 +0000 UTCCaydee and Matt dialog - always amusing and fun to read - making me stretch brain cells to remember back to the kegger scene, and actually remembering the scene but only Mandy’s name, and some great writing. Christmas came early for fans of Al Steiner’s writing. Thanks Al for the latest chapter. May you and your family have a wonderful holiday season

2023-12-24 07:00:36 +0000 UTCI have been reading your stories since Aftermath was about a 1/3 posted. So it has been a long time since these characters tripped across my brain cell. You have always had a nack for tying up loose ends we have almost forgotten about. I have been following a Mexican rock band of three sisters for 8 years now. They were just young girls who did cover videos on youtube for their grandparents. One of the videos went viral and started them on a path of a music career. Because of the Intemperance stories, I was glad to see them turn down multiple recording contract offers. They even declined two invites from AGT because they knew that would cost them artistic controll of their music. When they did sign a record deal, the negotiations took 7.5 months, and the girls read every page of the contract and made sure they understood everything in it. Their Patreon account turn out to be a major sticking point for the label, but they caved when the band said they walk away from the deal before they would abandon their fans. Sorry about the long post but I figured you would like to hear about young band that was avoiding some of the traps of starting out in the music business.
