(Dang, those vines really took some time, heh.  I was also tweaking the dialogue a bit.  Still not entirely sure... but I think it works for now.  Also, it's been a while since I've done an animated page. I'm debating on animating the last two panels.)  *EDIT* I animated them. XD

Though Asriel tries very hard to continue living for the future, the past never leaves him.  And he's unsure how to cope.  Can Frisk help him?

AbsoluteDream

It is very tough for the poor thing to go through. Thank you so much!

AbsoluteDream

That's an interesting thought!

AbsoluteDream

Thank you very much! I've been looking forward to this part of the comic, actually. Heh.

AbsoluteDream

Indeed, thank you for your insight on how to help Asriel through his feelings of guilt. It is definitely something I've also thought about. ^^

AbsoluteDream

Just make sure it has a Happy Ending.

Oh wow! This is intense! Such an awful burden for him to carry... consequences of his actions, yet they were caused by the madness he was driven to. I'm impressed with how you're examining the mental wounds his existence as Flowey would definitely leave on him. And carrying this burden alone other than with Frisk, who only knows a fraction of what he does, unable to bring himself to tell his parents, all compounded by his fear of rejection... That'd be so agonizing. Seeing him slipping back into Flowey form is haunting. Amazing work here. Angst in art pulls the most emotion from me, and this is doing an awesome job at that.

ZaCloud

Oooh it’s good to see Asriel still retain some of Flowey’s traits in this AU. I mean, he was Flowey for probably longer than he was Asriel, even is he doesn’t want to acknowledge it.

Man, that's some weight on the shoulders, ain't it? Asriel lashing out at Frisk is a really cool way to display the difference in their mental state & Frisk's pacifist nature versus Asriel's conflicted existence. Asriel breaking down after he realized he'd hurt them and yet they weren't leaving is...a tough bit of storytelling. Of course Asriel can't understand the difference between what he did and what Asgore did, but the abject hopelessness in his questions hurts my soul. If anyone can sit down and listen to him, it's Frisk, but I'd imagine it'll be difficult to disentangle Asriel's concept of potential forgiveness from Asgore and Toriel's marriage. I think it'd be really cool to see the back two panels animated; would it be the first panel toriel being there and then getting hit, with the second panel being her wounded and then dusting? Really love the status of their psyches here, and can't wait to see where you take it. :)

Also, the fact that you immediately gave up what you thought was your only way to be you again in order to do the right thing and make up for your actions proves that you DO deserve to be here Asriel. That is test-amount to who you really are and how you really feel.

Bla Bla

Also a way to have them prove to him that they forgive him is for them to regain their memories of those runs and still understanding and forgiving him for it. Having them remember it first hand would cause them to have to really confront it and accept it and forgive it.

Bla Bla

The thing that would really help Asriel feel absolved of his guilt is if Frisk tells him that anyone INCLUDING Frisk himself would have gone mad from the pain and isolation of being unable to love their loved ones. If he told Asriel that he has no no doubt he'd have done the same things had he lost his ability to love then I think it would really help Asriel move on. That's the thing that most stories don't delve into. They just have them say it's not his fault without exploring the true way he moves on. A spirit without a soul is unable to be a good person despite wanting to be. There is nothing to be held accountable for Azzy. <3

Thank you! As sad as it is, I'm enjoying writing and exploring the ideas based on Asriel and Flowey, as well as Frisk.

AbsoluteDream

Thank you so much for the compliment, it is interesting to explore Asriel's thoughts and feelings about his experience as Flowey. Frisk does want to do everything in their power to help. They just want to give everyone a happy ending.

AbsoluteDream

Ach, my poor heart. I'm glad this is getting addressed by his character in some fashion, though--that there's a lot of guilt tied to his past actions that aren't hand-waved even though the barrier was destroyed and everyone got a happy(?) ending.

Myshu

I just noticed Frisk got cut. Darn. At least the experience taught them about how it feels to touch cacti.

This dialogue and art really shows what Frisk and Asriel feel in this moment. Little goat child tries to forget and move on but can't in spite of what he did to everyone he loved. He played with their remains while laughing and he can't bear the burden. How guilty could one feel if they slaughtered their family as they begged for mercy? And Frisk, they just want to stand up for what's right. They recognize how others want to be left alone and they want SO BADLY to help people even if they get hurt. The determination and desperation they show in the later panels really get me. Props to you, my dude! Only a few comics I know actually bring the story to life.
