Hey loves <3 I decided to do a story recap on a whim, since we're approaching a brand new major arc. MPL is a long and pretty complicated story, so I thought some of you might benefit from this recap especially if you're still feeling lost or confused. And I hope this gives you a clearer picture on what the storyline is about, so far. Note that the recap contains the MAIN story outline, and some minor subplots (like the "Mr Lam" arc) have been left out to keep it condensed and concise.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to point this out - even though there are many plot points going on in the story, MPL is ESSENTIALLY a romance, and a love story between Tora and Poppy. Which means the entire storyline, in my mind, boils down to the romance that is unfolding between our protagonists, Tora and Poppy.
Readers are of course free to take the story whichever way they want. But to me, episodes like the rooftop kiss scene, the Regina's Peak midnight picnic, and the Tora/Poppy date scenes, are the meat of the story (!!!). not...the other way round, and most certainly NOT filler material as some people might view them as (why, though). And being a romance, Tora and Poppy's relationship will definitely be increasing in intensity, both physically and emotionally. But because of the 'main story' and the 1000 obstacles that are currently in their way, it will take some time to get there...BUT eventually it will definitely happen.
On to the recap...
Story Recap (From Tora's POV)
Tora, a high-ranking member of the powerful Balthuman Organisation, receives a phonecall one morning, leading him to a countryside town, Moonbright. There, he finds out that a mysterious notebook that belongs to a rivalling clan member, Goliath, has gone missing. He also runs into a young publishing firm editor Poppy, who he believes to now be in posession of the notebook, and follows her back to Narin. That same day, he is tasked by his boss, dangerous and powerful crime lord Vincent Balthuman, to retrieve this mysterious notebook that some other mafia leaders are after.
After investigating, Tora pieces together information leading him to suspect that the notebook contains dangerous and incriminating evidence. Tora begins his attempts to retrieve the notebook from the unsuspecting Poppy, and in the process begins to develop feelings for her and vice versa.
Eventually, Tora concludes that the notebook is no longer with Poppy, and decides to cut off all ties with her to keep her safe. Taking advantage of a brewing clan war between the B Organisation and their rivaling "9 Daggers Clan", Tora creates a minor divergence to draw Vincent Balthuman’s attention away from the notebook, and from Poppy. Now, after making sure Poppy is out of harm's way, and losing his final lead to the notebook, Tora decides to momentarily put aside his search for the notebook. He mentally prepares himself to never see her again, and says his final goodbyes to Poppy at Regina's Peak.
With all the loose ends tied up, Tora is finally able to catch his breath, believing the notebook situation to be temporarily resolved and Poppy to be safely out of his life. But almost immediately, Poppy gets into contact with Tora's good friend, Quincey, who is a famous novelist and Boss Balthuman's son, and they sign a publishing contract together.
Tora finds himself reunited with Poppy once again with Poppy’s new role as Quincey’s book editor. Surrounded by regular civilians for the first time in his life, Tora now has to navigate a brand new lifestyle that is completely strange and foreign to him, this time forced to remain in close contact with Poppy. And because of this new situation they are in, Tora’s initial resolve to stay away from Poppy is quickly disappearing as they find themselves repeatedly thrown together in numerous situations....
To Be Continued.
