Warning: Ranty post ahead! Please skip if you don't want an eyeful of Lily's angry, pms-induced ranting. If you're going to tell me to ignore the comments, you should probably stop as well - going through reader feedback semi-regularly (as unpleasant as might sometimes be) is a critical part of my job, and not something I can skip or ignore.
Anyways, I fixed Poppy's outfit after going through the comments on Webtoon. But the hair stays, because it's part of the plot.
This is something I definitely saw coming. To be clear, I loved what she had on before this. But I also love clothes, and fashion, and trends, as much as the next girl. And I can see *exactly* where everyone who didn't like outfit #1 is coming from. To me, Poppy in outfit # definitely looked very professional and capable. But I agree, hands down, that it was a way too 'mature' and ageing look, for her. And this is coming from someone who's been in a corporate and business environment for years, surrounded by walking business suits, literally everyday, lmao.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not ranting about the comments, which have mostly been constructive and on point. I won't even be surprised if a handful of you, myself included, feel the same way(if you do, but are keeping it to yourself, you are an angel for protecting me from that bitter pill, and I thank you for that ❤️).
I guess I'm just frustrated, because drawing 'fashionable' clothing is *hard*. It is MUCH harder than I thought it would be. For me at least, it's even harder than drawing accurate anatomy (which is far less subjective, to begin with). It's easy to shop for clothes irl and pick out the perfect outfit for myself. But drawing it on a 2D character is a whole different beast, especially when she has the complete opposite body-type from my own.
I have tons of respect and love for Webtoons like Edith and True Beauty who have the prettiest outfits for their characters. I could stare at them for hours on end, happily taking in all that eye candy. Unfortunately, MPL isn't that kind of comic, where 'fashion' is a part of the entire appeal and selling point. At least, not right now, as much as I want it to be. I'm ALL for fashion-y things (I love it to bits), but there's also a production aspect that I have to consider - some outfit choices have to be made to optimise production rate. So really, what might seem like Poppy wearing 'dowdy' clothes is really the artist (aka me) having to cut down on the 'fashionable' element, in order to deliver the episode on time.
And ngl, it's also very frustrating how Poppy is constantly being SCRUTINISED for her outfit choices, and Tora could appear in a rag and everyone would still him to choke them, lmao.
<Rant over>
