AB - Ep 5 Sneak Preview + Story Chat

Enjoying a thunderstorm and a cup of hot tea (well it's no longer hot now) while working on the inks <3

I actually wrote out a pretty long outline for AB, and it could have gone on much longer, but I'm cutting it short obviously because of the contest and time limit. I'll definitely pick it up again once MPL is complete.

A little chat about the characters.

Ulaan is a badboy but he's also a great guy, to me. Compared to Tora, he's much warmer and has a lot more heart. I try to reveal it in bits and pieces throughout the story but this coming episode it'll be clearer (I think) that he isn't the usual badboy type character.

Asura's Bride is a love story set during war times, which is a very romantic setting to me because it allows for more angsty, emotional scenes. But it has darker, sadder undertones and less humorous moments. Partially because of this, I wanted to balance it off with a male character who's more capable of deeper emotional connection and has a humane side to him. Otherwise I think it would be too depressing to read ;D

As for Princess...if you guys noticed she has yet to have a name, it's intentional! ;) I thought it would be an interesting way to show how, in her world, she's so unnoticed and insignificant that she doesn't even get a name in her own story (until the end of the 6 eps). It's not a bad thing per se. It's just that she's usually so quiet and reserved that she gets very little attention from people around her.

I deeply enjoy writing about the Princess, too. I wanted to portray strength of character in a quieter, more subtle way. (Also it's a pretty typical East Asian trait to have during that era). My take on this is that strong people don't always need to be loud and aggressive, and I like how Princess is like that. In comparison Poppy is much noisier and more boisterous than Princess XD

It's very difficult for me to write a story about war times. I try to portray it with as much sensitivity as I can, but because of this, I might skirt around the more touchy topics. Oh wells. If I ever come back to this, hopefully I'll have grown enough as a writer to handle it better.

Anyway, I have grown so emotionally attached to AB that it would break my heart when it ends ;_;
