The Creation of Black Roses [Video]

Tonight I wallow a bit in nostalgia. I luckily got an old hard drive working again that had important files on it. Like the creation of my Black Roses Playing Cards.

In the past, in order to have backups of each design step, I liked to work in such a way that I create a new file with each new step. As a result, I can show you the exact process of creation in a video.

Creativity is my constant opponent. But in the creation of the Black Roses back design in 2014 I was in a creative tunnel. The whole design was created in one sleepless night. Only the final detail - the roses in the middle where added in the afternoon, after I found some sleep.

I think the video shows some interesting details. Also the fact that I had no idea in the middle of the design process how the final back design will look like. Rarely do I know at the beginning of a journey where it will lead. This video is just another proof of that.

The Black Roses Playing Cards deck from 2014 has the some of the ugliest court cards 😅 But I like the idea a lot to create a 2014 replica deck for the 10 Year Anniversary Kickstarter campaign. More details about the replica deck and the old faces will follow soon.
