Chris has given me permission to show you a bit of the new Orbit deck. So if these pictures are shared elsewhere, I'm not sure I'll be allowed to do that again :D
On the night of February 26-27, Chris wrote me: "CC V2? 🤔"
Funny enough - that's how we started the new Orbit deck.
I told Chris that I thought the same thing the day before, but USPCC need forever to print a deck. So if we are going to do something, we need to do it fast. We did some brainstorming in the same night. I just went to bed but with this idea in mind I couldn't just sleep so I went back to my computer to design something. 2-3 ideas, none of which were really good. But that's how it always starts.
Shortly before 11 am on February 27 I've send Chris an idea. He responded with: "Oh my dear god" so we have built the entire deck on this idea. On February 28 the whole deck was finished. We adjusted the last small details on March 1st.
Designing a whole deck in such a short time sounds like the exact opposite of how I usually work and it really is. Many aspects have played a role here. For one thing, we really didn't have any time. As much as I hate time pressure, it can be incredibly helpful for me. And secondly, the fact that the Orbit deck is not my own deck. Yes, I've designed most of the Orbits but it's different compared to my own decks. I can take a more relaxed approach without worrying about every little detail. Which does not mean that the attention to detail suffers. I think the best proof of this are all existing Orbit decks.
This new Orbit deck is definitely my favorite Orbit design, along with V4, which I also designed in a few hours btw. Even faster than this new deck. Creativity is an a****** sometimes but with the right flash of inspiration you can create the most beautiful things in the shortest time.

Chris has a vision of his Orbit decks that I don't entirely share. However, it's his brand, I'm not in a position to say anything against it. But with the decks I design for his brand, I have a very big influence on which direction it goes. In those three days, I spent several hours arguing why we should do it this way and not another way. I'm a little surprised myself, but also proud that Chris valued my opinion so much that the deck was finished without any compromises that would have made the deck worse in my opinion.
Thanks for reading.
Much love
Daniel
