What's your favorite "ad-card"?
Added 2022-01-17 13:16:57 +0000 UTCYou may have bought a deck in the past without high expectations but then you got surprised by the extra cards in the deck. This "wow this is cool" effect is what I want to achieve when you open a new deck.
It can surely only be achieved when you really get something completely unexpected but I would still like to hear what you prefer.
Feel free to explain your choice in the comments or let me know if it's something completely different.

I also like stories you can tell with cards, the example I’m thinking of is the triple Jokers in the Elemental/Wadey Carbon deck… what do you get when you take “carbon”(joker 1), and “pressure” (joker 2)? Produce “Diamond” (joker 3) I like stuff like that too

Madison said a while back that those who are still printing jokers are limping the potential or wasting printing ideas ( now I don’t fully agree with that cuz I think jokers do have a place in certain decks…but there are some decks that just don’t need them and would be far better suited with a gaff or dupe…. Even a cut card….

2022-01-18 19:47:24 +0000 UTCI have to say I always like the duplicates and a double facer. Mainly for the amount of things you can do with them, but I also had to go to the other option as well. One of my favorite things is the little hidden gyms (or reveals) within other cards of the deck that I love and always look for!

That's very cool, little details like the updated courts always make me smile. After reading the comment above, another cool option I forgot about is alternate courts. This usually applies more to decks that have a theme for the courts (Greek gods being a common example), but I've also seen alternate aces. I think there was a Faro style deck that had the usual ornate tax-stamp style Ace of Spades, but also a "regular" ace with just a single small spade pip. That could have some potential for magic, too: Say if you had a regular King to show the spectator first, and an alternate king of the same suit, but with a secret reveal.

2022-01-17 18:09:34 +0000 UTCI can't tell if you're being ironic or not :D Because I used this poker hand card in the upcoming MxS Casino deck. The Bee decks have a Poker Guide card. I got the original file from USPCC to make a gaff. And yes I love the idea to advertise something in the Black Roses Hotel / Casino. The new Hotel Jokers already go in this direction. :)

The keycard and survey card are great examples, but I've also seen them used as more traditional "ad-cards," but for fictitious products. Like the Thirdway Industries upcoming Poison deck. Something fun for you might be to have the Black Roses Hotel deck with an ad-card for the Black Roses Casino, while the casino deck has a card advertising the new amenities at the Luxury Black Roses Hotel. I remember some Bicycle decks used to have a card listing the ranks of Poker hands. I've always wanted to see a deck do something clever with that concept, but I have no idea what that might be.

2022-01-17 17:01:30 +0000 UTCI really like double backers with an alternate color way. I also like duplicate cards with alternative artwork. Like a different ace of spades or king of spades, etc. It’s nice because it allows for different, maybe more aggressive at style on the one card while allowing another to be more standard.

2022-01-17 13:38:30 +0000 UTCThere are no boring answers and it makes completely sense. But I think it's funny how opinions differ on blanco faces. I have heard from a magician that he thinks blanco faces are the most useless cards ever. At least in a custom deck.

2022-01-17 13:35:42 +0000 UTCI love doing tricks with messages or drawing on blank face cards, but if I want to do that, it largely limits me to bicycle decks. Double backers just have a million uses. I know these are boring answers but that’s what works for me.
