A long overdue update

Little by little I have redrawn the same people in my decks. I stopped counting but I'm sure I've already drawn over 200 faces on court cards for other people and myself. Year by year you can see a visible progress in my court card work. It's simply learning by doing.

The King of Spades in most of my decks is my brother in law Daniel. Yes, his name is also Daniel. In my very first MPC Black Roses deck from 2014 he was already the King of Diamonds. For the Black Roses White Gold Edition I've added the same face drawing for the first time on the King of Spades in 2018. I've only added family members on the court cards in this deck.

I like the old drawing because he is very easily recognizable on the card so that even my nephew recognized him when he was two or three years old. But actually I know since I've made him the King of Spades that I have to redraw his card. Lack of time never made me do it but yesterday I finally took a few photos of him and I've spent the whole day today to draw him again.

The original face of the King of Spades has some very nice recognition features. For example the shape of the left eye brow. You can almost copy and paste it 1:1 without destroying the recognition value of the new face. This makes it come really really close to the original court card design. Like that some of the best faces that I've drawn lately are on a King of Spades.

If you look at the image on top you can see that I have added his initials on the court card - "dk". Not sure yet if I wanna keep it. I need to get used to it first I guess. You'll see the card for the first time in my new Hotel and Casino decks.

Thanks for reading.

Much love

Daniel
