0003 - A Diversion!

In this momentary departure from the story arc already in place, Lyle and Téodor come to strong words over the nature of psychopharmacological distraction. Professional readers will note that Lyle still wears his "Registered Asshole" glasses (title legally assigned August 27, 2007). Next week we return to the story already in progress.

0003 - A Diversion!

Thank god this is back

Arms_Crossed_Negative

Lyle and his what eBay sneakers do you crawl towards has me now crying after how ever many years it just was since I saw him last

RaleighTSakers

God this one is so fucking good

Ari

man I just snapped back into sentience, too. Achewood is back, a plague is on, and I'm many years SOBER???? WHAT YEAR IS IT??? (I agree completely with Lyle, btw.)

Whitney Wasson

Teodor lived in ignorance with his little Saturday morning bad boys while Lyle was Happening

LowClarity

When your coke was cut with powdered sugar and you'd get what was called 'icing drips' or when your opiates were full of xylazine...oh.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

I never considered this before, but he does have a bit of Al Swearingen about him, too

sean stevens

Iconic. Achewood’s back baby!

Vi Hermens

It‘s a hell of a sacrifice to make just to have fire sticks imho

Vi Hermens

as a fellow modern day highman (read: titty boy) I can confirm that all I want from Delta 8 is for it to make petting the cat feel like an electrified dream and for me to see the concept of living as doable

Daniel Leach

Yes, that's exactly what you can do. They have "budtenders" that'll help you find exactly what you're looking for as they all have like 100 different types.

AuEllai

I do not imbide(gun owner) but my understanding is that they straight up ask what you're looking for and recommend different strains. Some of the places are very boutique. I would be surprised if my state isn't going to run it through the ABC store system tho.

GruntyGinMan

Lyle's not wrong and also, from someone from a non legalized state, can you really just walk into a weed store and say "Hi I am going to see Floating Points tonight and I would like to feel perfect and not scared at all, and have the music sound even better" and they just hand you the exact right thing?

Nicholas Williams

Alt text is dead. Long live bottom notes

E Corcoran

I feel like the notes under the strip are the new alt text, only better because there's a lil more room to stretch out

dmf 23

Lyle's blog is low-key the reason that Lyle might be my favourite character.

Jacquelyn R Walters

Oh man I wish

J Hardy Carroll

Lyle's waters run way deeper than you'd expect.

toby x

Japan-Man is having a rough decade.

GruntyGinMan

I don't think Patreon really supports alt texts, going by the previous discussions.

GruntyGinMan

"no wonder god sends asteroids" is going straight to the top of the Responses To Minor Grievances list. i am savoring this strip like a fine wine. hooray, man!

goingtoalaska

Is there alt-text somewhere or am I missing it?

E Corcoran

Lyle has a point about nearness to death being necessary for some of us to enjoy life. The nearness required varies greatly.

toby x

This is honestly probably the golden age. I strongly suspect people with more money than me are paying people smarter than me to develop "slow dependence subscription based happiness pharmaceuticals" which will be cosigned by Congress and encouraged in the workplace soon.

toby x

Took his head clean off with that one.

toby x

iIf they were lucky! More likely they ended up splattered against that really cool metal dashboard.

Doctor Memory

Yup. Did we lose something in the transition to artisanal legal weed? Absolutely. Would I go back to the old days on a bet? Not on your goddamn life: I'm an old man and no aspect of my world would be improved by having to talk to a 17 year old drug dealer like some kind of animal or college student.

Doctor Memory

This is my drug. Pure grade gear right here.

JJ Baker

Brings back halcyon memories of “New West Turpentine Shakes” and “fuckin left coast power wimp”

Matt Mitchell

Those are the exact gummies I like to take.

honkycat

I've lived long enough to be on both sides of this argument

Ismini Roller

Older folks love to brag about how they didn't use/didn't have seatbelts growing up and I'm like my dude none of your crew who fucked around and found out via this particular laisse-faire attitude towards basic physics is still around to offer a counterpoint, seeing as how they supermanned their way through a windshield back in '78

Yelahneb Unicornucopiax

Every strip has at least one or two lines destined to become classics. This one has around eight.

Chris Gumprich

He's got a good point though. Drinking was fun when you're wandering around Southern Brooklyn in a daze, a bottle of warm rum in a paper bag, dodging cops and hanging out on park benches and closed playgrounds. Even when you're doing a wild house party where people are crushing cans. But when it's all like bar or restaurant... what's the point?

Silver Smoulder

I just reread the 2005 strip where Little Nephew sells T some "dried oregano" and I'm very curious about how Charley has weathered all these changes to his vocation.

Oppido

The generational Discourse: A man very much in his sixties lecturing a man very much in his forties like the schoolmaster not yet grey scolding the pupil over an unbuttoned collar.

Don Rowe

It's interesting how Lyle's glasses have gone from being coded as "the cheapest frames you can get at Optometry-4-Less" to now being the frames that hip young folks wear.

AR

theyre both right actually

Mae

LYLE is BACK

Cullen Crawford

We need alt text!

Brian Sawicki

Love to see my boys…

Meadow Green

Lyle is the Stoner Boomer

Rob Satterfield

Didn't expect Lyle getting metaphorical and philosophical.

Zack Hiwiller

Soviet veterinary solvent is the new Mexican brain detergent

Andrew

Not the J Crew Cunts! 😝

Bexx

I think I should play Lyle in the Achewood movie. https://media.cosocial.ca/media_attachments/files/110/396/716/407/239/794/original/cc1bcae528cc9481.webp

Evan Prodromou

The entire last panel is worth a month’s Patre-fee.

Andrew

Sometimes with Achewood I like to imagine the first panel and the last panel as its own mini comic. This one is pretty great.

Bungus Bronbo

Check out Lyle’s blog the time he got sober

Chris Onstad

Haha, that absolutely checks out! Téodor caught him at his peak it seems xD

Allie

First it was the coffee, then it was a microbrews, now it's the weed. Portland leaves the world in preciousness. Also in getting your gas tank drilled for $5 worth of gas if you happen to drive a Toyota truck.

J Hardy Carroll

This is legitimately an all time one off

Steve McGuigan

"no wonder god sends asteroids" is an unforgettable line, wow.

Malt Schlitzman

It’s a function of the hour of the day. One hour later, he was spewing typos and half-digested marinara.

Chris Onstad

Lyle, voiced by Sam Elliot

Christopher Malone

Is it just me or has Lyle become more eloquent over the break? Dude's secretly been working on his English degree over the years it seems!

Allie

I’d like Cornelius to weigh in on the state of drug adulteration during his salad days. Soviet veterinary solvent would have been a luxury.

Omurice

They’ve been saving up for a while

Chris Onstad

This feels like a record for most exclamation points in an Achewood strip.

Oppido

Awesome

Matt Mitchell

omw to Plato's Gremlin

zoë hayden

Best one since the relaunch so far.

Eli Parker

Ok "I believe in gigantic central ironies" is going in my Twitter bio.

Benzy

Reading Lyle yelling about drugs feels like coming home to a warm bath. Achewood is back and things are looking up.

Ian Macleod

I feel guilty for those Cure singles I bought online, I should have waited to travel and looked for them in a store.

Christian LeBlanc

o7 Teodor you fought valiantly but the ebay sneakers dunk was a masterpiece.

Captain Chaos

Getting high should make you miserable 100% of the time so when you do it to feel like you’re literally standing at the gates of hell, the boys know how hardcore you are

Bungus Bronbo

Lyle's ebay belly crawl comment takes this round. Sorry T

toby x

I've never identified more strongly with T.

Zen Window

As soon as Teodor said “elderflower” I knew we were in for a wild ride

Cf Duddy

the answer? is yes!

Stavro

Exactly. I wanted it to feel like old times. But the next strip returns to the “Public Domain” arc.

Chris Onstad

Hell yeah, the best worst guy and the worst best guy are back! Which is which? I'll never tell!

EndgamerAzari

Of COURSE Lyle has opinions about how using legal weed makes you a massive sell-out square gobshite

Ben Wissett

Is there anything more Achewood than the third comic being a diversion from the arc?
