NEW VIDEO: The Most Extreme Things in the Universe - Ultimate Guide to Black Holes

Black holes are the most powerful and extreme things in the universe and they are wildly weird and complicated. What would happen if you fell inside one and what are they really?

I am 10 years old and I'm new on patreon. I realy like your programs.

Iosif

all of u

Kity Bird

love I will allwas sport u. 😍

This was probably one your best videos!!! and one of my favourites!!!

Cosmo Bresard

cant wait for the wallpapers on this one, this vid is beautiful!

Finally, captions is fixed!

rolf redford

Man been a week now. If it goes on long enough I'll just remove patreon. No reason to support channel you can't even enjoy.

rolf redford

Same problem here, wacky

Agreed! I am unable to enjoy this video at all due to wrong subtitles.

rolf redford

Hey kurzgesagt team, maybe I’m just stupid but for some reason this video doesn’t get the normal English auto-subtitles. It only does Vietnamese?? It’s hard to watch for me, as a hearing impaired person, without subtitles. Any help?

Willem Maathuis

So no infinitely dense point of matter. There is no matter inside a black hole. Everything is expanded into infinite dilution. 🤯 Cannot be understood in common language. Math or, possibly, geometric representation/visualisation is the only way, I think.

Tobias Petersson

Spaghettification prior to entering small holes and if you survive to the inside you get stretched apart due to the expanding space time inside.

Tobias Petersson

Yes. You don’t flip. Space time flips. :-)

Tobias Petersson

A big graphic improvement for the Black Hole series. Great video!

Yay

I love these videos so much!

In a sense yeah, your radial spatial direction aligns with the time coordinate axis inside the event horizon. You wouldn't suddenly feel yourself turning around or anything though, it's more because the coordinate axes have misleading names once you pass the event horizon, e.g. the "time axis" stops being a timelike direction inside. Also, I believe you are still spaghettified inside. I tried some handwavy logic with the Riemann tensor and got outward acceleration in the radial direction + inward acceleration in the perpendicular directions regardless of location.

Jerry Ding

There's a factual error on 4:30, your view when falling through a black hole doesn't look as if the rest of the universe shrinks into a small circle. It is only true when the observer is "hovering" by having a massive acceleration away from the black hole, not when falling in normally. There are videos available that use raytracing to show the actual view, where it always appears as if you are above a black sphere even when you enter the event horizon.

Jerry Ding

When all matter in the universe is gone except for black holes, will it stop expanding or will those singularities begin attracting each other, dragging the universe back inward?

Forrest Young

Just a tiny detail, but one side of the accretion disc should be blueshifted and the other side should be redshifted. It can be spinning fast enough to go through the whole rainbow from side to side.

Tony Hammitt

Wait a minute: if the life expectancy of the entire Universe is around 14 billion years, how can the life expectancy of a black hole be many, many orders of magnitude greater than that? EDIT: 14 BY is the current estimated age of the universe, not its expected lifespan.

Mary Severinghaus

Great video as always. But I think you got it wrong about the singularity. 🤔 At the event horizon time and space shifts so that you “get turned on the side” with your head in the direction where time used to be. Then space time expands and you get torn apart rather than compressed.

Tobias Petersson

What if Midas touched a black hole? Time for a shared universe of what ifs.

John H Martin

Because it was posted here for patrons and patreon automatically labeled it as a "patron-only" video.

Gleb Mordovskoi

love it! mind blown! and now I can't wait for my new space explorer notebook <3

Paul Muresan

Can't wait to watch this!!

Kevin Ciminelli

Why did I received this by mail saying it's a "patron-only" video when it's actually on Youtube?

Another interesting video!
