Fun Fact: Brett Goldstein, the actor who plays Roy Kent, Keeley Hazell, the actress who plays Young Rebecca "Bex" (Ruppert´s baby mama), Brendan Hunt, the actor who plays Coach Beard, Phoebe Walsh, the actress who plays Jane Payne (Coach Beard´s eccentric girlfriend), and Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso himself) are all writers in the show.

2024-11-15 16:18:57 +0000 UTCThe show is oddly obsessed with sketchy relationship dynamics haha. Rebecca and Sam, Jake and Michelle, Keely and Jack. People can argue the severity of each, but they are all problematic and it is weird that the show felt it necessary to put solid time into them when there was way more interesting stories to tell instead.

2024-11-09 09:47:57 +0000 UTCTrue in a lot of European countries. And the servers don't take offense to not being tipped anymore than a cashier at CVS would take offense to not being tipped, because they don't expect to be tipped, nor do they depend on tips to maintain a living wage (though in fairness, most CVS cashiers probably aren't being paid a living wage). They make what they make, which is a hell of a lot more stable than what they would make here if a large portion of their income was entirely dependent on the kindness of strangers. I've worked tipped jobs, and sometimes they're fantastic and you make bank. But if you get hit out of nowhere with something like a global pandemic, you're screwed. And even when there isn't a pandemic, some weeks working for tips really suck, because business is just dead sometimes. Steady consistent income also makes a more harmonious environment for servers because they're less likely to treat each other as competition and try to game the system to get the most generous regulars at their tables, which can cause all sorts of workplace tension. Restaurants that pay their servers enough to eliminate tipping dependency just build the increased labor costs into their menu pricing, so the diner doesn't have to worry about what the appropriate gratuity amount should be. The higher cost of their food is what ensures the people who bring that food to them don't need to be paid more by the diner to survive, and the server doesn't have to worry about whether or not their customer is going to be a cheap a-hole.

2024-11-09 09:25:40 +0000 UTCI do wish we would have heard something from Michelle, but I appreciate they don't make her out to be a villain. Yes, she is complicit, but she's still a victim.

2024-11-09 08:20:55 +0000 UTCI lived in England for 11 years. They don’t tip, because they don’t need to. They make a living wage. Some people might tip, for special occasions or holidays. But it isn’t expected.

2024-11-09 01:49:27 +0000 UTCAgree with you re: Michelle. They could have made her much more unlikable, or defensive, or whatever, and instead the character just knew she needed to let Ted express his feelings and listen and really hear him, and that's what she did, knowing they'd need to get deeper into it at another time to really has things out. But in that moment, all he needed was to get that stuff off his chest, and I read that scene as her understanding that and allowing him the space and freedom to do so without pushing back.

2024-11-08 20:20:22 +0000 UTCNot sure what Michelle could have said in response that would have helped anything. Maybe, "I'm sorry," or "I understand." The damage is already done at this point. I lay the blame 100% on the therapist. Regardless of the time between Ted and Michelle's breakup and beginning of their relationship, it's wrong. Especially as he was already Michelle's personal therapist before they went to him together. That's already a bad dynamic. Even if all his intentions were pure and non-manipulative, it's his responsibility to not cross that line. I know it takes 2 people to start a relationship, but it's on him as the "professional" to back off and not let it happen. Whoa what a backfire that video of Nate was for the team. I think red cards (and someone who knows the game better can correct me) also mean the player is disqualified for the next game. They can be replaced for the next game so you don't lose the position. It was fun to see all our beloved players lose their shit though. Barbara's reaction was great though. You start to warm up to her as a character from this point. Great reaction ladies!!

2024-11-08 19:57:45 +0000 UTCExactly, because a good therapist understands that a patient could form an attachment that might wind up bordering on unhealthy, and obviously, there's a power imbalance since the therapist knows your deepest, darkest secrets and fears and could easily use that to manipulate you, take advantage, etc. Hell, forget just hanging out, a good therapist won't even allow you to friend them on Facebook because there needs to be a giant buffer between doctor/patient and "real life" so to speak.
Jeff K
2024-11-08 19:10:40 +0000 UTCYeah exactly, if you look at the team's therapist, she's a perfect demonstration of someone who is friendly and knows their clients on a personal level, but isn't their friend. She doesn't let their conversations veer into friendship territory beyond Ted and the team's therapy because she knows how important that line is.

2024-11-08 18:46:38 +0000 UTCHell, therapists aren't really even supposed to be FRIENDS with patients, let alone date them. It's so fucked up.
Jeff K
2024-11-08 18:19:14 +0000 UTCThe therapist thing is so fucked up because Ted was supposed to be allowed to be his most vulnerable and bare all his shortcomings as a husband and a person with an impartial 3rd party. But what he was really doing was giving another man a blueprint on all the voids to fill in his wife's life to immediately step in and take his place. AND HE PAID FOR THAT. It's so disgusting and I think the therapist should lose his license for it. A lawyer should not date a client, a teacher should not date a student, a therapist should not date their patient, end of story imo. If you can't control yourself in positions where you hold a ton of responsibility for the well being of others that you serve, then you should get a different job. Be a plumber and date whoever you want.
