Hey Maple here :) looking back at this I feel like I may look a little stoic I had an operation on my foot and it was hurting really bad lol I think maybe it zapped my vibrancy a bit but don't be fooled I loved this movie a lot and can't wait to do the second one! Hopefully my foot starts feeling better soon I'm truly over it - foot pain is no joke! LOVE YA'LL - MAPLE :)
Those camera flips are also reminiscent of comic/Manga flow. Paper to video.

Now all I see is Maya, her daughter. For the comedic parts and her smile especially π

Something you will notice w QT is how he plays with tropes. The sherrif, buck, the sensei, the yakuza, the crazy 88. He loves throwing the obvious trope in your face, showing you how ridiculous and making it cinema

Fun reaction - glad you enjoyed the movie. Honestly, I couldn't believe it when you said 'Tricks are for Kids' 10 mins into the movie. That was awesome. - I have noticed a confidant director trusts silence or scenes without score. The movies that use this technique tend to be the better ones and seem to usually be nominated for stuff. The director knows what they shot and knows can be more effective for a certain scene. I too love when this is used - From all accounts, I would assume that most of what QT shoots is one camera set-ups. (unless a specific stunt that may not be reproduceable multiple times). He is very specific & shoots on film, so I do not think he was shooting multiple cameras on the fight scenes. (I have not done any research - just my opinion) - If you haven't & seeing you enjoyed this movie, after KB2, I would suggest going back to the beginning & start with QT's first movie and go in order. It is not imperative, but he is such a distinct director & writer that it is interesting to watch how he progresses and what stories he chooses to tell. -

The switch to black and white wasn't really an artistic choice. There is so much blood in the movie that it was in danger of getting hit with an NC17 ratting. So switching to black and white for some of it was a quick and easy way to please the censors.
