Arcane 1x7 1/4

The girls aren't used to how fast Netflix opens the next episode and thought they were watching an end credits scene lol.
we'll sort it out.

A layer to Marcus' character that Maple may be missing in her analysis after the episode is that Marcus simultaneously admires and reveres Grayson (the original sheriff) while living with the guilt of getting her killed. In some way he likely sees his alliance with Silco as a necessary evil to keep the peace, but he could also just be repressing his guilt and rationalizing that what happened to Grayson wasn't his fault and that he's not a bad person. The other key relationship that doesn't get much screentime is his relationship with Caitlyn. He demeans her and mocks her but you could guess that on some level he compares her with Grayson and might even be impressed by her determination despite appearing frustrated by it. Grayson and Caitlyn also had a relationship (even if it was just acquaintances showed in the flashback scene) and so the comparison is even more believable. Take a close look at Marcus' facial expressions in his last moments before the fly bombs go off. That's the face of a man with unreconcilable conflict and who is about to cross a line that will ultimately damn his soul. Maybe deep down he might even realize that Caitlyn is Grayson's successor in the ways he's not, and if he kills her he kills all that remains of Grayson's legacy. Each and EVERY character in this show is written with such depth that you could analyze every single one with equal scrutiny to detail. It's some of the best and most screentime efficient character writing I've ever seen.

The portion of the beginning was misfit toys by Pusha T and Mako (songwriter and producer of the soundtrack).

I watched it with them and it loaded right there with them

You can tell that he does actually care for Jinx though. He knows that Powder’s past traumatizes her and triggers her to become unpredictable. He helped Jinx perfect what she was trying to do in the group (make bombs and shooting). Silco told her that Marcus never said he took her to prison, so he assumed she died, and SeVika told him after getting her ass beat by Vi. Then he was summoned to that meeting while Jinx found out she was alive and she started threatening him with his own eye tool, and he calmed her down by saying “I need you” (triggering Powder, Vi & Mylo, with “She jinxes every job”, “You’re not ready”, “Why did you leave me?”, “Because you’re a jinx” etc;) and her remembering (only the bad things) that Silco is the first person who cares about her, that needed her.

I love how Viktor says there is always a choice then he moves right into making an uninformed choice.

Most of the events of the show are something that was new to people who know the lore, too. For example, we knew that Jinx did... something... in the past, and that people close to her died because of it, but it was never explored in depth. Coupled with the fact that the majority of the characters in Arcane were made for the show (only 9 characters from the first season are in the game, a few of them are side characters that you'd never guess are actually important and, this being a prequel, quite a few of them are vastly different from how they appear in the game), that means that you don't really have an advantage if you know the game's lore, other than knowing a bit more about the world and having an easier time putting everything into perspective.

Well hey, They seem to like this show so much they almost binged into the next one. I'm taking this as a positive!

You two are really perceptive when it comes to small or hidden details in shows. When Jinx was stitching the gash in her leg there were mechanical butterflies on her desk, it's small little details like that that I love from Arcane where they show but don't tell. You were also on the money when comparing Jinx to a suicide bomber, the theory online is that Jinx/Powder tried to kill herself when Echo hesitated to finish the job so she finished it herself. If you pay close attention during the show Powder's eye color starts off as gray, but when Jinx is revealed they are bright blue. In the final scene right before she pulls the pin from the grenade her eyes revert back to gray. You also see her have an unhealthy expression towards her own life, she plays with grenades that are about to explode as if it's Russian roulette in a previous episode, it's like she really doesn't value her life at all. It's crazy how detailed it is. Also in my opinion as of episode 7 on alignments in the show. Heimerdinger (Lawful Good) Caitlyn (Neutral Good) Viktor/Jayce (Chaotic Good) Mel (Lawful Neutral) Vander (True Neutral) Echo/Vi (Chaotic Neutral) Unknown :) (Lawful Evil) Silco (Neutral Evil) Jinx (Chaotic Evil)

That is weird how quickly it went into the next episode lol. Mine did not go that fast and I was completely synced up. So much so that I had to manually resync the portion of the next episode by toying with pausing and unpausing.

The commentary yall have for this one was so rich, I love the deep dive done into the plot surrounding Jinx at this time. It's so heartbreaking to witness many others throw empathy her way just for her to dismiss it while she's locked up in the heat of the moment. Ekko, Vi and even Silco allow Jinx their vulnerability in this episode and in each situation, Jinx lashes out at them. Not that Silco didn't deserve his, but it's interesting to note how personal his eye piercing sessions are - and the fact that we see Jinx takes this responsibility of injecting his eye - a very intimate (not trying to be gross) act. Nowhere else in this series does Silco lower his guard down like he does around Jinx. Y'all also mention Jinx's growing 'jealousy', if we can call it that, of Caitlyn, when Jinx sees Vi give her a special kind of attention. Jinx is barely holding on to the thought that Vi actually loves her and wants her back, I assumed any outward affection Jinx saw Vi give to anyone else would break it. I weep for just how fragile Jinx is.
