Love me some Bobby but I can't help but point out that they are boiling down Dean's base characteristics in that opening scene with him to reach back out to Sam since his family always forgets pie which makes him miserable? Deep or what? Hah!
Jared's face kills me with all the emotions going on at the end, just amazing work! Sam starts so strong in hero mode taking his 'curse' and using it as a 'gift' to save the world, then looking back as he hears Dean's shouting "Sammy" you can see his innocence and purity shining through so much even brushing off Ruby's yelling to hear his brother...then Lilith mocks him using his favorite descriptions: "freak" and "monster".
Both boys were played and pushed them further apart so that's why I love the teamwork Ruby kill as at least a first step to bridge that divide we know they eventually get to. MVP award to Castiel!

I love these rewatches so much.! I know you are only doing your top 5, but I really hope sometime there are more in our future. There is a lot of discussion about Sam and the blood. Personally, I always thought the blood gave Sam his abilities. Yellow eyes was looking for a child to do this when Dean went back in time. He said he was looking for parents for his special kids. the reason Mary died in the first place is she walked in on him. It really fits, but I think there are some inconsistencies in the writing that make it a bit ambiguous. I remember way back in Sn 3 when Sam killed Gorden where you could Sam's pupils expand and his iris became black. It started coming out then. But I think because he hadn't ingested more to that point and because he didn't actively try to develop his powers, they were just a step above being dormant. I think Ruby told him the power wasn't gone, just dormant. Like a muscle you haven't used. Anyway, I love this finale, it was #1 with Sn 8 at #2. Thanks for the rewatch Shelley always a great time. I can't wait for the next because I know how much you loved it.

I do really love the Kripke episodes, but there is one thing that bothers me about them, and honestly sometimes takes me out of them. Its how witty and pop culture referential everyone is. I'm fine when it's a trait of a specific character like Dean. But when Cas says you're outside of your coverage area. Like I can't. Cas at this point would never say that or even understand what that means. I've met very few people in my life who are actually as witty as his writing. I know it's a small thing, but it really does always make me conscious that this written by someone.

Yellow eyes blood is what gave Sam and the other children powers and when yellow eyes dyed that severed that psychic connection and Sam's powers were gone. Then ruby started juicing Sam up with demon blood and we all know where that went.

amazing rewatch, loved it, the thing that sam was referring to at the beginning of the episode that dean said to him last episode was you're a monster sam & it's not what you do, it's who u are, lilith was scarier as a kid but i doubt the network would allow them to show sam killing a kid, they came close to it in the season 3 finale but couldn't do it, kripke wanted to do lots of insane stuff but couldn't because of the network, sammy ๐ญ, so heartbreaking, , it's tough for me to watch cas here too because 2 episodes before this in 4X20 the rapture he was ready to tell dean everything & told dean to meet him before they dragged him from jimmy back to heaven & reset him, probably naomi or a naomi type angel did it coz he came back very different & was like i don't serve u dean when he was ready to fuck heaven over earlier in the same episode, they probably did the same to anna too but dean was able to get to cas but couldn't get to anna, the moment u started shipping them is an excellent moment, so greatful for everything season 4 gave us, it's my favorite season too, while i am not sure if sam was a special kid without the demon blood to begin with, we did see him use his powers in 1x10 way before he started drinking demon blood, but that took dean being about to die so the demon blood definitely enhances his powers, two moments i adore from this episode are when dean is looking at cas behind Zakaria & cas looking down shamefully & the shocked look dean gives cas when chuck says you're not in this story & cas says we're making it up as we go, it's shock & admiration, love it, can't wait for point of no return
