Make sure radio is switched off - pull the battery - wait a minute - put battery back in - hold the two buttons and switch back on - that should put it back into update mode

Couldn't get the ctcss tones to work on my newly flashed RT-900 after loading nicFW900 V4.00.04. So I decided to redo the firmware update after downloading it again to avoid any possible download errors. Used the RT900SPI to redo the firmware. On completion of the firmware update the radio powered down and won't come back on. The radio will not go into update mod. This suggests a bootup corruption to me caused by my firmware update attempt. Did do a backup spi from the radio as advised by Marc. Is there anyway to put the saved spi back on to the radio?

Bill

I'll take a look, but from the source code there's more to it than just recorded data. I'm trying to get a fine tuned Watts system, where the stock firmware has only low/medium/high which are sketchy at best.

Marcus Dudley

Yes, having been using them, ymmv though :)

I have a schematic and a board layout for the non Bluetooth rt900. My problem is how do I get it to you? OK, you should be able to now pull it down from https://nicsure.bughunter.co.uk/RT-900_schematic.zip

Marcus, in our telegram group for the rt900 there is a file called "RT-900 Adjust RF Parametes v1.2.zip" which would allow you to read the stock power and frequency calibration data from each radio and I believe export it to a file. Would it be possible to import data from this file into the NicFW calibration code? If the manufacturer has gone to the trouble of calibrating each radio, this might be useful. From my testing this morning, it appears to be a fairly complete data set. I have also made it available at https://nicsure.bughunter.co.uk/RT-900_Adjust_RF_Parametes_v1.2.zip if anybody wants to play with it. Probably need to learn a bit of Chinese first.

Are ctcss tones working?

My UHF measurement with Bird 43P Wattmeter Menu 4: 160 Menu 5: 7 Menu 6: 7 400MHz = 1.0 W 410 = 1.3 W 420 = 1.5 W 430 = 1.6 W 440 = 1.7 W 450 = 1.6 W 460 = 1.4 W 470 = 1.6 W 480 = 1.5 W 490 = 1.0 W 500 = 0.5 W 510 = 0.2 W 520 = -------

did you change something on AM modulation or AGC in this version..?

My non-Bluetooth version is arriving tommorrow. Any chance of getting a schematic of the non bluetooth model ? What cpu does this model use? I would like to see the specs for the registers etc. I am going to play around on my bench with it first factory operational, back it up then take it apart and look at it with the scope and poke around, then I will install your firmware. There maybe a timing issue involved or something else effecting the PA and PA out. When I was playing with the 900 Bluetooth with the last two versions of their stock firmware I noticed a power fluctuation problem like the one described but I think it is more obvious using your firmware where you can see things better. I think a possible hardware issue needs to be ruled out first. I don't think it's your firmware. Don't give up! I liked what nicsure did for my H3s so much it got me going again!

Ken

Looking real good, Receive is working very well on this unit.

R.D.M.

Reflash settings again. or maybe even reflash the firmware, what you are describing makes no sense and could tbe the result of data corruption

Marcus Dudley

when turning on the radio the keypad is locked by default. when i short press to the Exit touch it blocks the keypad, when i short press A/B touch it unlock the keypad and start scaning,. I cant switch between List mode, Chanel mode and VFO mode anymore. I flashed the LP csv again but it change nothing.

Toni Corona

Dude, even I don't understand them. All I know is each one has a value from 0 to 7 and I know as much as you do. They're something to do with the PA gain stages but they affect output power, so I put them in to allow data to be gathered.

Marcus Dudley

This is the reason for the experimental menus, I'm going to have split things up into ranges, the menus were designed to allow quick testing so each range can be tested and recorded ready for when the "by range" system is implemented. What do you think the granularity of the ranges should be? 10MHz??

Marcus Dudley

I want to start by saying in the stock firmware, I was noticing some fluctuating power out on UHF between different ranges and power settings low/mid/high. It could be my radio that's all messed up, but find it odd that with nicFW I'm able to correct one range at a time and fix the issues I was seeing in the stock fw. V04 UHF is proving to be almost impossible to tune the power settings for me due to each frequency range, ie. 430, 446, 450, 462... all having massive variations in power out with the same settings. I can tune let's say GMRS channel 15 462.55MHz and then fine tune with the new PA Gain settings and adjusting TX power settings finally change the power output. But it has a very small window, say between 110 and 210 before it drops the output really low. Tuning to say 446, the power output is way off now. You have to basicly start all over with power tuning and PA Gain testing.

Scott Stone

Genuinely trying to wrap my brain around PA Gain settings. o//o

Shay C@

No, the bluetooth model uses very different hardware and processor that is very anti-consumer.

Marcus Dudley

VFO/MR does it. It's essentially remapped from the "Exit/Cancel" key from previous versions.

Marcus Dudley

Should VFO/MR toggle vfo and channel? where is toggle for groups?

Stacy Poteet

Will this work on the Bluetooth model as well?

Ken

Thank you! Been waiting to use that dial tbh :D Time to flip my logo again!
