Part two of Jason Hickel on how degrowth will save the world

We talked about the concept of 'green growth', and why the notion of decoupling growth from intensive resource use is ultimately unconvincing. We also chatted about the Green New Deal and whether it is compatible with the politics of degrowth. And finally we talked about Jason's argument that a green energy and resource transition, if undertaken with no challenge to the growth imperative of capitalism, could pave the way for radically increased exploitation of workers.
How to change your PTO pledge currency:
On Patreon, hover over your circular avatar in the top right of your screen.
Click 'Manage memberships'.
Then find your PTO pledge, and click 'Edit'.
Under 'Currency', choose your preferred currency (which will most likely be British pounds)
Then click 'Update' to save your settings.

Very stimulating- but for me, the division between social vs market provided goods could founder, primarily on the question of food, for example. Because capital (either state or otherwise) is required to buffer agriculture- even modern intensive agriculture, let alone something more small scale, and therefore vulnerable. That’s a question I guess!
