Early Release: Ball Python Snake!!

Hey Everyone!

It's Early Release time!  This Ball Python Snake is so much fun, and brings with it a whole new level of customization.  The base snake model is 24 inches long, but SURPRISE... it's true length (and coloration) is only limited by your imagination and your filament supply!  Each extension link adds 1"...  How long will you make yours?!

The model includes 4 files.  The head, the front body, the rear body, and the body extension link.  The extension link and the rear body all connect like daisy-chains, via a brand new snap-fit joint.  Print as many extensions in as many colors as you want!  It's so much fun!

I'm planning to release this model to Cults3D later next week.  In the meantime, I would love to hear any feedback so that I can address any issues before I release it there.

Happy Printing!

Matt

This has been test printed as low as 70% with full articulation.  Below that, the tip of the tail may start to fuse.

Here is a quick video showing the easiest method for snap-fitting the head onto the body: https://youtu.be/DWsYu2BY7ow

Comments

There is also the Little Ball Python exclusive set. Those are separate models, that are already designed to print smaller

MatMire_Makes

It varies by slicer, but most of them should have a scale tool that allows you to manually type in a scale percentage. You just have to type in the same percentage for each part. What slicer do you use?

MatMire_Makes

I’m not sure how to shrink all 3 pieces so they fit perfectly. Any tricks?

Camden Zaremba

How do you shrink it down to make it mini? Im

Camden Zaremba

This one is the isanmate PLA+ Rainbow

MatMire_Makes

Is this PolyTerra Matte Rainbow by chance?

ClearMindDesigns

i was using the isanmate rainbow, i have been printing the ball python at 75% though, on my elegoo neptune 3's. A full size is about 24 hours. Interesting to note you can get way with 5% infill though, will give those a try. My favourite print of him at the moment is using the eryone tri colour silk red/yellow/blue. It just looks amazing https://photos.app.goo.gl/74RbZksYwcjU7de96

Leigh Johnson

I usually do between 5-10%, but it really depends on the filament. If the pink/blue you have is Cookiecad Unicorn, that has a pretty slow transition time. I think that one has one full color transition every 100g or so.

MatMire_Makes

Hello Matt, do you remember what infill you are using to get that colour gradient on the ball python? I usually use 10% and they seem pretty strong but I got a 2 tone pinky blue :P

Leigh Johnson

That's going to be very different based on the type of printer. On my Direct Drive machine I print at 70-75mm/s base, and on my bowden it's closer to 50mm/s. I've never tried pushing the speed too hard.

MatMire_Makes

At what are the fastest speeds you are still getting good results?

David Petty

That’s isanmate rainbow PLA+

MatMire_Makes

Can you please tell me what filament this is?

Elise Dony Tribke

How long have we gone on one I’m work on a bunch of links soon🤫🤫

jeremy andersen

You got pics? haha! You should share them on Discord!

MatMire_Makes

So I found if you print everything at 225 percent and add on 15 extensions you get roughly 7.5 feet

3D Printer Friends

The head also seems a little bit loose. Other than that, the print looks awesome.

Joseph E Templeman

Did the Ball Python Snake (v02R) correct the issue with the tail coming off. I printed the v03 version and the tail popped off?

Joseph E Templeman

Yes. Once a model gets publicly released the versioning starts over with the R (release) suffix, and are no longer beta.

MatMire_Makes

Was the v03beta version retired? I'm only seeing download links for v02R.

Matthew Van Zante

I actually have zero experience with belt printers, but thinking about it... I think you would want to align the ball ends of the parts toward the extruder side. If you're open to joining our Discord, I think you would have a lot better chance of getting group input there, in the troubleshooting channel. It's a very helpful community.

MatMire_Makes

I'd love to hear from anyone printing the Python on a 30... Successfully ;)

Shayla Anthony

Doing a straight layout for the Front and Rear sections for belt printing would be easy enough. However, I think I prefer to keep the middle section as-is. Leaving it up to the user to decide how many links/what length they want.

MatMire_Makes

I love this print. Quick question though, is it possible to get like a long middle section? and a set to print this on a CR30 or other belt printers? I have printed 4 already :) about to do a social media post.

Nerdy_Chicken_Schmidt

That’s isanmate rainbow!

MatMire_Makes

So my second snake (same filament, same printer) had an issue with the tip of the tail popping off. I heated the end and smooshed it just a bit and it stays on now, but will download V3 to make sure I have the updates. They still look great and I can't wait to see people's responses!

Shayla Anthony

what filament did you use on this? I love it!

LizTina Rodriguez

I printed my first one and it finished this morning. Zero issues. Eero post processing. Snapped together perfectly. Great design! Looking forward to printing others.

Shayla Anthony

Awesome!

MatMire_Makes

Print came out really nice. Everything clicked right into place. Nice design.

Dr. C.

I don't do much on the actual print cleanup. Just file down and bigger burrs, and maybe hit it with some heat if it has stringing. I never really worry about the print lines. I'll usually paint the eyes. For my main listing models, I fully paint them with an airbrush and hand painting details.

MatMire_Makes

Almost finished the first print. It looks like you post process the prints, what do you usually do?

James Malafronte

This is an absolutely amazing model! The python colors are impressive. This is a master piece! Keep it up!

YourMagnet_adult_version
