Gooning originates from bimbofication/sissy hypno porn; I first saw the term used on Tumblr sissy hypno gif/porn blogs prior to the purge. You can see how the idea of masturbating yourself stupid goes hand in hand with bimbofication. The term (along with hypno porn in general) has unfortunately been colonized by the cishets, who largely just want hyperporn. Additionally, you mention that hypno porn is banned on major porn sites to due issues around consent. The logic behind this is incredibly stupid: proponents of the ban were of the mind that the viewer could not consent to viewing the porn, since the major theme of hypno porn is that you are being hypnotized into enjoying a kink you might feel shame around or otherwise not be interested in. It's just another move by payment processors to censor content they find disagreeable. Obviously, the viewer is perfectly capable of consenting to view this content, and could close the video at any time if they weren't interested. The genre serves the purpose of allowing the viewer to engage with kink, identity, and attraction they feel shame around, giving them a mental pass to view this content without needing to feel ashamed. This is a huge part of why this content started out with "hypnotizing" the viewer to be gay/trans, and the genre still largely focuses on taboo kinks. Obviously, hypno porn cannot make you gay or trans; it does not hypnotize you, it just gives you a pass to enjoy content you are ashamed of.
