Desert Breaker

Desert Breaker: History

This game, released by SEGA two years after Capcom's Commando II (Mercs), shares a similar style—set on the battlefield, where the player must take down any enemy alone. You can choose from three characters, and up to three players can play simultaneously. Even when facing tanks or fighter jets, you charge in alone and keep firing non-stop—making the game highly challenging, but also incredibly satisfying. The game features a three-button setup: a shot button, a bomb button, and a dash button that allows instant movement. Collecting medals that appear on screen fills a gauge, and once it reaches maximum, the bomb button becomes available for use.

Laser Ghost update

In last week's release, Laser Ghost was included in JTS18 and we explained how to configure and escape the calibration screen pressing F2 on a keyboard. We have added an option in the OSD menu to enable/disable the test mode and it can also be used to exit the calibration menu without needing a keyboard connected

Road Map

There are two main systems planned for 2025:

But you will see plenty of other games and systems pass by on our Friday updates. Some may be stepping stones to get to these two. There are some requests that I plan to service too but they should not be -hopefully- as hard as these two so I will not mention them explicitly.

I am sure Run&Gun will work on MiSTer, SiDi128 and the Pocket at least. I am not so sure about CPS3 but I am going to try. Hopefully there is a good way to design a compatible system that fits in our beloved FPGAs.

Other Updates

Comments

Playing "Desert Breaker" on MiSTer over HDMI. There are some audio problems; sound effects and drum samples randomly get very quiet or cut out completely.

I got the new laser ghost mra at git hub. Analogue pocket controls work fine now. Crosshair does not track. But you can move gun around screen just fine with dpad.
