1942 Logo: Emulation vs Arcade/FPGA

Not many people noticed, certainly Sorgelig did, but the CAPCOM logo at the boot up screen of 1942 is different in MiSTer and MAME. MAME version shows two different boxes moving, whereas MiST(er) version shows just one long box whose length varies. I made that core using only schematics. I didn't have a real PCB and I couldn't find any video of that logo animation on YouTube. But the logo behaviour made sense to me from the schematics point of view as the sprite RAM space was divided in sections for all screen, only left and only right. Something that MAME driver does not take into account.

At last today there was a post in Jamma Arcade about a repair log of this board. On one of the videos the logo from the real arcade can be seen. And yes, the one you hold in your MiST(er) board is the right one :-)

I fixed the problem with the encryption/DMA that was holding me up. I only have the sprite hardware pending, but I have finished analyzing it. I am translating it into Verilog. However, I am traveling for this week and the next so I cannot verify it in the FPGA. I can run local simulations with my laptop but the trial by fire will be when I try it on the FPGA. That will be on the 14th of July when I am back home. Hopefully I will release it soon after that. I am sorry about the lag. I should have asked for the payment post when I had the core much closer to completion. I totally miscalculated it :-( I will be more cautious the next time.

any news regarding popeye beta release ?

That’s awesome! Mame developers made a great job but there is only so much you can get by inspecting the game ROMs.

Very cool. Sprint1 has a color problem in mame as well. I understand why - I almost created the same bug. I think we will start uncovering more bugs in mame.
