Very Old Features

While most of my Patreon articles talk about how to take advantage of some of the newest features of Ren’Py, this month’s article is a bit different. I chose three very old features (ones that are almost fifteen years old at this point), and explain how you can take advantage of them.

Some of the most simple and oldest features are still very important today and can have so many possibilities! Especially for those with limited time and skills. Thanks for the article! (Also I have been trying to figure out the menu sets thing for awhile, so I REALLY needed it! It'll save so much time for me instead of making variables and alternate menus lol)

Wow thanks so much! I had no idea these features existed. I particularly like the playtime - it's always nice to add a little stat at the end. Besides, I think a well-crafted VN experience will feel shorter than it actually is, so it's nice for people to see they got value for money. :) Although does it encourage "speed runs"? Not sure the optimal experience of a narrative game is based on time... hmmm... one to ponder. Thanks so much Tom! :)

I do that menu set thing manually quite often; good to know it's actually a built-in feature.

The Menu Set function is very interesting, I too tended to use variables to do this and in one of my games things were exceptionally complicated due to this, the article as a whole was very interesting especially the timer part which will be useful for one of my upcoming titles.

the menu set is very useful, and I didn't know that was possible! Lol in my game I used several variables to keep track of the choices already made but this is much easier :)
