A Wonderful Place

I've been feeling a bit under the weather over the past week, but I started feeling better just in time for Super Mario Bros. Wonder's release day! It's a really charming little adventure that I've been playing through with my own brother.

Beat the Heat

Here comes the sun! I had a lot of fun with this one, and I want to keep up the momentum a bit and make more!

Heat Wave

It's been too long since I've finished or posted any comics! I've gotten deep into 3D printing and my day job lately, but it's time to chase the comic train!

It's been really hot outside where I'm at, so I thought that this was an appropriate short strip to put together.

The Fix

Caffeine dependence is very common. I'd be lying if I said I didn't struggle with it from time to time.

The Power of (Dis)belief

I've had the sketches for this strip finished for a long time, but I had left it alone for just about as long! I don't know how I'd fit this into G33X canon (which is going to become increasingly more important after I finish my backlog of silly comic strips) but any chance to draw dinosaurs is something that I can't help myself but to take.

I don't have a good title for this comic yet

Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I'm a huge fan of dinosaurs. With that new Jurassic World movie out--and the beautiful Prehistoric Planet documentary series--I've been wanting to see more feathered raptors around.

Monologue Mockery (Side-Quests)

Based on the more verbose comics I've seen, I think it's really easy to overload a comic with a bunch of dialogue. If you go back and find some of my really old stuff, you'll find comics with speech in every single panel, so I'm definitely guilty of that sort of thing.

Pain in the Grass

I put this comic together while watching the second season(series?) of Tiger King. I've always found the abrupt timing of random encounters to be kind of silly, especially when a monster appears right when you step into the tall grass.

The Player's Paradox (comic)

The emotional whiplash that I've seen other gamers go through is an interesting phenomenon. I guess it's like eating spicy food in a way; enjoying something that causes you some form of pain or discomfort seems to be one of those common paradoxes of life.

I had a friend who'd yell and shout at the screen while playing games, and it always seemed like he wasn't having any fun with it, but he'd play for several hours at a time.

Daylight's Wasting (comic)

That diddly darn Daylight Savings time, always throwing off my groove. To be fair, it's more surreal to exit a movie theater and find the sun still shining, but maybe that's just me.

Side-Quests: The Burden of Choice (Comic)

I have a few Side-Quest strips saved up from before the informal hiatus. I'd like to go back and build up my backlog a little bit, and continue the arc with the forest fire.

I also have a few bigger storylines in mind for the Side-Quests setting, but that's a bit further down the road.

Stream of Consciousness (strip)

Back to making time for comics! I've been getting swept up in my day job a lot lately, but I'm still here!

I think mixing pixel graphics with higher-res speech bubbles and text has a cleaner look than some of the older GameBoy-styled strips.

A Small Bite (Comic)(PART 4)

Wrapping up the arc here-- or am I? I've got a few ideas on how to continue this storyline,  so we'll see what I can cook up for that!

A Small Bite (Comic)(PART 3)

I think smoke and fire effects are some of my favorite things to play around with as far as effects go.

A Small Bite (Comic)(PART 2)

Here's part 2 of the "A Small Bite" pages!

A Small Bite (Comic) (PART 1)

Here are the first few pages of a short comic arc I've been working on.  Putting these together has been a lot of fun, and has certainly been a learning experience! Stay tuned for the rest of these pages coming up!

Over-Encumbrance (Comic)

I don't know why it took me so long to polish up this strip, but it's finally here! I still want to experiment a bit with how I present sprite comics, and I think it'll be super cool to put together a book with a pixel art style.

SideQuests: "By the Bootstraps"

I've never seen a shoe-based Mimic before, so I thought it'd be fun to explore that angle a teeny bit.

These two-panel comic strips are a lot of fun to put together, and I feel like they're great practice for quick quips and visual gags

On a more serious note, I'm planning on making comics the main priority for G33X right now. There are several parts of the production pipeline in animation that I feel aren't at the right level for me right now, and the same is true of the video games that I want to make.  I hope that shifting focus in this way will allow me to provide a better experience for you guys in the long run. Thanks for sticking with me this far!

Bugging Your Friends

I was sorting through some comic files and found this little one that's been sitting there at like-- 90% finished for a loooong time. I figured it was time to blow the dust outta the cartridge and put it up here for you guys!

Side-Quests: "Looking for Group?"

I've heard so many horror stories from female friends about their experiences with online gaming over the years. A handful of them even avoid using voice chats entirely, unless they're in a private chat among friends.

G33X Side-Quests: Mouthing-Off at Monsters

It's been a while since I've finished any comics-- till now! I think 2-panel comics could be a fun way to get back into comics, and it's definitely a good way to figure out how to cut down dialogue to get more o' them snappy quips in there.

It's also good for goofing around, like with this bonus strip!

Quick Cartoons

Even though these are suuuper short little things, I feel like I'm getting the hang of a few things about OpenToonz and where I can see room for improvement within its interface a bit--- BUT I won't bore you with all that technical talk!

I want to work up to making longer-form stuff, and maybe even cartoons with voicework sometime. I might be pushing myself a bit hard about getting things out quick and hurrying things along a bit too much at times. I'm sure if I have more fun with finishing things, I'll be in a better place to tackle the bigger, ambitious projects.

Trying YouTube Shorts

I recently heard that YouTube is rolling out a platform for short-form vertical videos and thought it'd be fun to experiment with that a little bit. In addition to that, I've been toying around with virtual pet ideas (You know, like Tamagotchi and Digimon, stuff like that).

I wonder how one would actually make a v-pet dungeon-crawler? Might be worth exploring deeper.

A Beautiful Performance (short)

I've been doing a lot of pixel art recently, and part of that includes updating the old sprites of Chase that I used in the Christmas Clash short.

This was a fun little thing to put together, and I think playing around and having fun while making cartoons is something that I want to do a lot more of.

Alive and Kicking

It's probably cliché to say that last year was crazy, but I'll say it anyways: last year was crazy! I went through a lot of ups and downs personally during 2020, and I feel like I accomplished more than I give myself credit for, too. I have a ton of sketches and concept art piled up behind-the-scenes over here, and I have no idea where to really start with it.

I will say that 2020 was definitely the year of the Goblet, so be prepared to see a lot of those popping up.

Good ol' Goblin!

It appears that I've found a look I like for backgrounds! It's starting to feel a lot more polished and coherent, which I'm pretty pleased with!

Keep an eye out for the next one!

Restore-ange-Your-Health Juice

Looks like Connor ran into a little bird trying to make a buck; will he be a repeat customer?

I think I'm getting the hang of putting these comic strips together! Though, I still think my background game definitely could use some major leveling-up.

A Not-So-Secret Admirer

This strip is a continuation of the previous one, where Chase and Connor get beaten up by the tiny little Goblin guy... But where's Connor?

A Suitable Joke

Yooo, another Gameboy styled comic! I came up with this joke while chatting with a good friend of mine, and I just had to turn it into a comic strip! I hope y'all enjoy!

Bomb Defusal

The joke for this comic strip definitely relies on the limited palette of the original Gameboy, but i couldn't pass up the chance to make something in that style.

I like the way this strip looks! I'm definitely gonna have fun playing around with this style.
