for some reason this came back to me today, maybe the good characters aren't complicit in droid slavery if they remove their restraining bolts and the droids stay through choice maybe. still luke bullseyed womp rats so he is not that ethical

If that guard lady intended to capture both Han and Qi'Ra, she never would have opened the door in the first place, she already had the vial. She only announced one trespasser, she obviously figured one vial was good for one person. The guards didn't start coming for Han until he started yelling for her.

Daniel, That's a fair point and you could be completely right. It’s probably isn't the best comparison. I just realized that this was the second “Star Wars fatigue” article I have seen over the past year and (in the mainstream media) I have yet to see the “Disney is dropping the ball by making ok but inferior movies” article. Same kind of thing that happened with the latest Ghostbusters movie, “it can’t be a bad movie so it must be one of a dozen other reasons it bombed.” My whole point was that if you make good entertaining movies people will come, even if it’s the 18th installment in the series. Harry Potter had solid box office numbers all the way to the end (8 movies) because they were good movies that tried to be faithful to the books.
There was a time the rule of thumb was “super hero movies” don’t sell. And after the failed Fantastic Four movies I am sure there were articles about Marvel or super hero fatigue. But super hero movies generally sucked (special effects just weren’t there yet) and the Fantastic Four just stunk, objectively.
When you look at Doctor Strange or Ant Man. Those movies were difficult concepts to put on the big screen but Marvel Studios knocked out of the park. Or (story wise) “The Infinity Gauntlet” which in the comics is a very complex and confusing story, Marvel Studios made it digestible to average people without being insulting to the comic fans. It’s really an amazing feat in both respects. For that reason, I would be interested to know what the Marvel team would do with Star Wars franchise.

Sean, I agree with your point, but propose a counterpoint apropos Chris's article, being that Marvel movies have a wider range of aesthetics (both visual and narrative) present within the franchise, while Star Wars continues to heavily rely on Norman Reynolds' art design and Kasdan's style of dialog. This isn't inherently a bad thing, and I disagree with the article that it's the reason behind waning box office returns, but it isn't apples to oranges w/ the MCU, which varies in writing/art style depending on the sub-franchise (compare Captain America to Guardians of the Galaxy). I don't necessarily think it's longevity has been dependent on it, but I think the distinction is worth noting.

He learned a lesson: don't trust people because they'll die off. He went through character development, which she willfully ignored in order to get more talking points into her overly long video.

It would be hilarious if on the same page there was an article about the 18th Marval movie approaching 2 billion dollars wouldwide. Of course it couldn’t be inferior movies that are the problem, blame Star Wars!

If you are calling Jenny names you are definitely out of line. If not you might want to rephrase and be more clear what you are talking about. Plus, your agrument (if I understand it) doesn’t make sense. If someone dies to save you if makes it MORE clear that some people are worth trusting. It shows there are honorable people out there in the universe. Mother Theresa is dead but her existence in time proves your can completely devote yourself to the poor and people still today try to emulate her.

Is Solo signaling the exhaustion of of the Star Wars aesthetic? <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/the-growing-emptiness-of-the-star-wars-universe" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/the-growing-emptiness-of-the-star-wars-universe</a>

As I was sitting through the movie, I remember asking myself "what is supposed to be enjoyable here?" Solo was kind of like a weird homage to the scrapped EU and its over-literal, curative fandom at its finest. Excellent arbitrary list.

The Falcon's Notch story from the expanded Universe still holds. Lando said he made a bunch of modifications. One he listed was adding an escape pod that fills the notch. It's canon. Lando said it himself in the Solo movie.

You make a good point about the droids. I liked that droids were shown as worthy of compassion but once you do that you need to follow it to its conclusion. Like the hand of blood in TFA which humanised the Stormtroopers but was then forgotten .

Re girl droids: there's an episode of the 1980s Droids cartoon where R2d2 has a girlfriend; a pink astromech droid with tennis shoes. She literally gets eaten alive by the episodes antagonist and they never speak of her again. not sure if this is still cannon
