Video: Let's do real magic

You know when you think editing a video is going to take several days, but there's a flaw with some of the footage and you want to know right that second whether the whole video is ruined, so you obsessively edit the video until the whole thing is done

Video: Let's do real magic

Yes! That was my thought when I first watched it, too. I should rewatch it. It's really good.

I saw a spell book at a book sale a couple days ago, but ignored it; after I watched this video I went back to scan through it and see if it was silly but it was already gone.. I got a book on how to fly airplanes instead.

This is my new favorite video

I've caught cockroaches. I took them outside so other people wouldn't squish them. They were tickly.

The "official" explanation is that trending is determined by how quickly a video's view's climb *in relation to* how many subs that channel has. So a channel with a million subs getting 2 million views is relatively unremarkable, and a channel with 5000 subs getting 200,000 views is more likely to hit trending. This looks like an effort on youtube's part to stop promoting the same channels that are already popular, and try to push new ones. THAT SAID, the trending page sometimes has blurbs under the popular videos. I saw one of mine on there once, with a blurb which was not my video description - someone at youtube had written it. I guess they could write the blurbs after the fact - but there are so many channels with so many equal viewerships, if it was strictly viewership and automated it should be statistically really unlikely for a channel like mine to trend more than once, let alone many times, especially after my subs hit a healthy 100k and stagnated for the most part.

This is my favourite video of Jenny's which I've seen so far. I believe I may have watched all her public videos but I just joined as a patron recently (my name was in the credits! woo!) so there's loads of director's cut stuff that I haven't seen, along with all those videos in the Millenial Falcon expanded universe. But yeah, I would gladly donate five hundred dollars or so if it meant she could afford some real high-quality ingredients to try more spells for actual historical spellbooks. I'm surprised at how invested this video has made me, actually. I gasped in shock and disappointment when it was revealed that the honey was not swallowed. I was also like "nooo" when it turned out the wand was resin instead of birch. Of course that matters! Real talk: magic could be considered the science of placebos. The placebo effect is super super strong. It's why prayer seems to work, it's why spells seem to work, it's why knee surgeries seemed to work ( https://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/07/upshot/the-placebo-effect-doesnt-apply-just-to-pills.html ). If something seems to work, then it does work, because apparently belief has a super strong effect on one's mind and body. So no, I don't think throwing an egg at a tree will change things in and of itself, but I believe that it will help you believe that you have the power to change things, which will give you the confidence you need to actually go and get things changed. If I may quote a fellow commentator, AlTheChemist5: "I'd definitely buy a book that was all just sensible advice, but then ends with throwing an egg at something every time. 'Spell to pass a difficult test: study for half an hour per night for one week beforehand. On the morning of your test, throw an egg at a library.' 'Spell for Career success: communicate with your superiors about the tasks they want done and the time frame for those tasks. The day of your performance review, throw an egg at your boss.'"

I think there’s someone(s) involved in choosing trending videos. H3H3 has pointed out videos of his and others that received millions of views in a short amount of time that never made the trending list. I think the theory is they exclude videos from channels that generally aren’t “family friendly”. Then again, your “Addendum” post on here explained the “no notifications for subscribers” phenomena very well which is something else H3H3 has complained about in the past so it’s possible they’re wrong about how the trending videos list works, too.

I can't be the only one who is now obsessed with working out why someone would need a garden gnome. This may keep me up at night

Poor Matthew McConaughey, but I'm sure he'll still find plenty of work even as a spider. There goes his Lincoln sponsorship. More work for Tobey Maguire now though.
