[#203] METAPARAPOLITICS: AN INTERVENTION, Part 4: Rancière, Peter Dale Scott, & Government of the Shadows

Dimitri and Khalid continue exploring the long strange trip of the word “parapolitics” into the 1990s.

Topics include: Jacques Rancière’s book “Disagreement: Politics and Philosophy”, calling out Aristotle for not actually doing a heckin’ democracy, policing the polis, the undergrad thesis that accurately nailed SJ’s bricoleur nature, inhabiting the space between, squaring Peter Dale Scott’s sus elite background with his valuable work on deep politics, Poetry and Terror in Scott’s “Coming To Jakarta”, doing free verse silk topper self-crit, being “a victim of excessive inheritance”, the 2009 academic essay collection “Government of the Shadows: Parapolitics and Criminal Sovereignty”, how “parapolitics” differs from “grand conspiracy theory”, and more.

Please do not Trueanon-ize your podcast. I enjoy what you put out.

Also: Eric Wilson's The Spectacle of the False Flag is highly recommended.

Thank you for giving some attention to PDS and especially Government of the Shadows. It was Ola Tunander's contribution that led me to the work, but of course stayed for the PDS and other essays. This book is where I learned that there was a word for the "field" that held my interest; had no idea the term had such a history. I used to think, maybe still kinda do, that "PDS is automatically sus cuz he didn't get the Gary Webb Award." It's a too-crude take but I've wondered if PDS' work was allowed to proceed because he was something of a professional translator for a certain faction--and that maybe there was some sort of elite gentleman's agreement that he was to be left alone else some retaliation would follow. ...But this is just rank speculation on my part.

It's as if Libs are fine with the horrors of a bourgeois state, and just trade in the grief of it all

id like to add one further imagined audience this podcast is for, the person who's just trying to get through their whole weightlifting routine in a timely way including travel time.
