2025-08-09 19:49:56 +0000 UTCPeople say Ging is a bad father, but that implies he's a father to begin with, I don't think you can really call him a father, he clearly makes a choice not to be. I know bad fathers cuz I had one, and trust me I'd take someone like Ging who just left over my own dad who sold our apartment without the knowledge of my mom and left us when I was just 3 years old. Essentially just leaving 3 kids and a mother without a home after having been abusive towards my older brothers earlier, beating them. I was always glad he left, cuz honestly he is a complete piece of shit and we were better off without him. I think Ging at least has the understanding that he would be a shit father so he chooses to not really be a father in the first place. I wish my dad had that kind of clarity so he would have dipped earlier and preferably without selling our home. If you want an in-universe comparison - Ging is what Killua could wish he had, cuz his family is freaking insane and Killua is just so normalized into the awfulness that it doesn't even register to him just how F-ed up his parents actually are.

2025-08-02 22:39:55 +0000 UTCHonestly gings like one of those parents that gave his kid up to do what he wanted in life, raising a kid wasn't one of them but having him and giving him the option to even go after him was the choice Gon decided because he's just an adventurous kid and just wants to understand why people do what they do like he's shown for every character in the HH world so far. Anyone can hate ging but not knowing a lot of info of why ging is ging it can be frustrating and or dislikeable but once you get to know him more maybe we all can understand, each and everyone real life or in any anime tbh.

He doesn't hate his child or he wouldn't be involved at all, but he obviously cared more about his work than he did raising a child. He's not the best parent, but he made a path for Gon to hunt him down. I guess he wanted Gon to discover the love of being a hunter/adventurer as he did. But yeah, clearly not best father material

In a perfect world everybody would be good parents, but some people are just not made for raising children for one reason or another, whether due to circumstance or personal issues. So Ging, rather than keep Gon and give him a potentially damaging upbringing, gave him to family who were able to give him a loving and stable childhood.

2025-08-01 17:13:52 +0000 UTCI dunno, I don't really have any emotions towards Ging because he just isn't a father, so there is nothing for him to be terrible at. Like yeah sure biologically, but Gon's adopted, he has a loving family who cared about him and was there for him. I get the whole "shirking of parental duties" thing and all, but I also feel like treating bio-parents like they are all-important does a real disservice to very loving adoptive parents. And this isn't just an anime complaint people do this in the real world all the time so it's a bit of a pet peeve. Ging isn't a bad or good parent, he just isn't a parent. Sure that may be a bit shitty of him but it is also exponentially better than making it Gon's problem that he doesn't want to be a parent. Turning meeting him into an adventure Gon is free to ignore is a little insane but mostly fine by the standards of this world, and if Gon wasn't the kind of person to enjoy that sort of adventure than he never would have started it in the first place.

It’s not necessarily about what they have, it’s that nobody else has it. I think it’s similar to the way misogynistic men view dating beautiful women. 2025-08-01 15:36:27 +0000 UTCThat’s what it is. I started to watch Daria. Jane’s parents weirdly reminded me of Ging, and yeah absolutely free spirit and absolutely trash. It’s the disengaging of parental responsibilities, they are cool and nice to be friends with, but good parents they are not. I’m used to bad parents in fiction to be abusive, but I don’t see disengaged that often and that’s why Ging stands out for me.

Look how Killua is spiraling, while Gon goes with his first Gut instinct and sticks to it. Both are extremes, Gon doesn't think _any_ decision trhough more than once while Killua can get so focused on trying to see _every_ outcome that it stuns him into inaction. That's why they need each other.
