I think the priest was shocked to hear of a Christ-like figure in the world he'd been walking around in. He had never heard the story of a man as great as Thors outside of the Bible. That can easily be a life-changing moment. Ann's reaction when talking to God at the end is the inverse. She's never heard a story of men as evil as Askeladd's band outside of the Bible. Surviving that is hopeful in a way. She has a direction to orient herself now. I think this is the hardest episode to watch in the series. There's rough episodes in both seasons but I don't think anything else in this series is as hard as a tied up village of Christians being slaughtered.

2025-07-31 23:42:18 +0000 UTCThe priest was so shocked about Thors because he didn't kill any of his enemies. The love that he's talking about is an unconditional love that Christ calls for us to have, which is to not just love thy neighbor and love those that we already care about, because that's easy to do, but he calls us to love thy enemy which is what Thors exemplified.

2025-07-24 05:34:17 +0000 UTCThis episode, to me, shows a real strength of VS, taking it slow and showing the gravity of the world they live in. having the MC not have any speaking lines for an entire episode

2025-07-24 01:33:37 +0000 UTCTo redemption discussion, its interesting because Askladd hates Danes and knows what he is doing is completely wrong but still does it for the "noble" goal of protecting Wales

2025-07-24 01:26:31 +0000 UTCVery interesting conversation about redemption this episode. I'm really curious what you two will discuss with the rest of this season and season two. This is past the half way point, but in a way it really feels like the end of a part or just stands out within the series. It's hard to declare this episode as a "favorite", but it's very well done in what it presents

2025-07-23 22:36:29 +0000 UTCFun fact, in entire history of Christiannity, the concept of sins and hell is... really recent. It was widespread when royalty and clerical order started to grow in strength and influence as it was far easier to manipulate population through the fear of hell and eternal damnation to limit crime, but more importantly, to pay the Church for an almost garantied entry into Heaven. As for how sins can be absolved, it will depends on the era, redemption sometimes comes with a lifetime of struggle (creating some Saint in the process), other times it was as easy as to confess and "maybe" face trial if needed... and then there was the Holy Crusade where it was free for all if you join the war.

2025-07-23 19:44:54 +0000 UTCTo answer your question about sin during the discussion, the Bible says blasphemy against Christ is the one unforgivable sin. Like you said, other sins can be forgiven if you ask for forgiveness and repent.
