The truth is there's more to Emperor Time and unfortunately you won't learn it from watching the anime. The anime finishes without getting THAT explanation. Without spoiling, the gist is Kurapika ain't telling us no lie when he said his risk would increase... There was a line in this epsiode which hints to that risk... He said, he "mastered the power in his middle finger by vowing never to release the chain and to always risk death..." and he can only use them when his eyes are scarlet... that and you remember from his fight with Uvo what he said when he released his Emperor time after the fight.

We first meet him as a clown but really he is a mastermind. He’s always where he wants to be. A mastermind dressed as a fool.

2025-07-18 18:32:00 +0000 UTCJust to clear things up. Nen contracts/ conditions (and Nen in general) are a direct reflection of a person's will. If you make a contract with the intention of changing it later, it's gonna be weak. What Kurapika did was recognize a flaw in the contract he made and fixed it. You can technically change your contract as much as you want but it's not gonna mean anything if you don't intend on keeping it when it gets difficult.

2025-07-18 00:00:12 +0000 UTCThis. Despite his skill it's pretty likely he is a weaker fighter than most, if not all, of the Phantom Troop members. His advantage is that his win condition isn't being a better fighter, it's ensnaring them in Chain Jail; which means he only has to be strong enough to hold them off long enough to capture them like he did with Uvo. This becomes a lot harder to pull off if they know about his ability though, which makes someone like Pakunoda an S tier threat because not only can she figure out his identity, she could potentially figure out his abilities from Gon/Killua/Leorio.

Gon wanted it as Motivation and the other two would have gone along for moral support reasons, but Kurapika refused, instead 'pressuring' Gpn by saying that he trusts him as a friend, which is why Gon proclaims that it is way scarier to him to let down a friend than to risk his life. And honestly, Killua _really_ didn't find that funny. he is well aware that Gon _absolutely_ means that, that kid has _no_ sense of selpreservation. killua is very rightfully mainly worried about Gon in this episode, because he tends to go with his gut first and think about consequences later - which is the exact opposite of what Killua does.

2025-07-17 18:16:28 +0000 UTCIt's a little unclear in the dub, but Gon and the boys were not looking to get a power boost against the troupe from Judgment Chain, they were offering Kurapika the opportunity to say "if you reveal my secrets to the troupe, you die" but as Kurapika said even if they did choose to betray him he wouldn't regret telling them because he loves them as his friends
