The show is not doing R.A.W. D&D, and deliberate flavoring by the players and DM shift things, like vampires and wizards for example, away from the "default setting" D&D conceptualizations. You can expect things in the future will continue to deviate from the preliminary "outline ideas" of D&D.

2025-05-26 17:35:24 +0000 UTCI think Scanlan was fully serious when he asked Pike to marry him, even if it was in the heat if the moment. π Seeing her jokingly lead him on for a sec kinda hurt, ngl.

2025-05-22 07:28:26 +0000 UTCRegarding the Vampire Ascendant thing, that's a BG3 creation, and within the lore it only exists because of the deal Cazador made with Mephistopheles. The Briarwoods' plans are something much different and much, much worse.

2025-05-21 10:17:56 +0000 UTCMatt definitely has an affinity for creating classes related to blood. Aside from his Blood Hunter class he created the Blood Domain for clerics, and Blood Magic for Wizards

2025-05-21 02:22:59 +0000 UTCYeah, the show makes a point of mentioning that the temple is a conduit for more power than an average person can normally handle, so it's not a spell she can just use any time anywhere.

2025-05-21 01:08:42 +0000 UTCok I have to point this out. Wizard's study their magic, they don't just get a book. That book, allows them to store spells, and change their readied spells easily. A warlock is one is bestowed power a seperate entity, doesn't have to be a god or a eldritch being, it can be cursed items as well. Also the best person for casting fire right now in their party would be Keyleth because we have seen her do it already and Bards aren't really known for casting elemental damage most of the time.

2025-05-20 22:41:04 +0000 UTCThis is my favourite episode of this session it gets me to tear up EVERY. SINGLE. TIME! Like when Pike comes in and just fucks everything up ugh SO GOOD! I remember watching the actual campaign and Kenny you were 100% right the astral projection was a way for Pike to come in mid scene, but damn she legit jumped down into the horde of undead and used her Turn Undead (where at level 5+ turns to Destroy Undead) and immediately obliterated like 40+ undead all around her or something? And then she had a Mace of Disruption that if you deal damage to Undead and their health drops below a certain threshold it would just instantly kill them! Like ugh so goood and in the show it became so much more badass with them not having to be really confined to the rules (like her imbuing all the villagers weapons!)

2025-05-20 16:48:17 +0000 UTCI like how the Briarwoods' backstory was handled, in that it didn't make them sympathetic, but still understandable. Cause while all their actions are still their own, it is kinda messed up that this Whispered One manipulated Delilah when she was so emotionally vulnerable and nudged her and her dying husband on this path.

2025-05-20 00:04:22 +0000 UTCThis is such a good Pike episode. Pike is top tier the rest of this season (as a cleric, she's just great against undead). The spell used is Astral Projection. My understanding is that Pike wasn't yet a high enough level caster to have it (it's a 9th level spell), the astral projection was instead bestowed by the Everlight to help with the "Skyping".

2025-05-19 20:58:19 +0000 UTCA lot of reactors do that. Also, Amazon likes to skip to the next episode. You have to actively stop that to enjoy the credits.

2025-05-19 20:52:54 +0000 UTCFun fact - There is a whole Vox Machina musical on youtube made by the youtube channel Cantata Pansophical. Unfortunately it has spoilers for season 2 and 3, but there is a song all about Pike and having to Skype in and being away from the party for too long lol. (The musical is based on Hamilton, they use the songs from that as the basis and rewrote them a bit and made custom lyrics and cast a bunch of people all around the globe as difference characters and it is really cool)

2025-05-19 17:05:54 +0000 UTCSuch a good episode, the white stone arc still remains one of my favourite critical role arcs, it's the one that made me fall in love with the show and it's characters

2025-05-19 16:24:17 +0000 UTCOh dang, I never caught the similarities between Vox Machina fighting on the Sun Tree here and fighting on the Tree of Time in Korra. Good catch, Kenny! To answer about there being a love confession, maybe you're thinking of Eska coming to save Bolin and him saying he loved her. πβΊοΈ

2025-05-19 15:42:12 +0000 UTCGreat episode/reaction! I just wanted to add in case it hasn't been mentioned before but despite this being based on the first critical role d&d campaign, there were many changes made mainly for copyright and pacing reasons. So things like spells, items and creatures are altered from the actual game. They also nerfed some of the characters to allow others to stand out more.

2025-05-19 15:05:14 +0000 UTCI dont think its a spoiler 5o point out soemthing you miss. Not un a bad way. Your theories make sense. You were right that a voice was whispering to her about the spell. She made a deal to another entity to save Silas so now they are doing his, The Whispered One's, bidding. She pledged loyalty to him in exchange for the spell to save her husband.
