2024-11-29 06:39:39 +0000 UTCIt’s a Manhwa not a visual novel

2024-09-06 09:32:09 +0000 UTCRegarding songs, this anime is based off a Korean visual novel, and this song is from a Kpop group. So they may have worked with the group to make the song specifically for this anime. usually, they basically pick via BPM/Vibes.

2024-07-23 17:17:42 +0000 UTCOh it absolutely isn't for me. It's like making a show about a topic I love and getting all the details wrong. Like if Dr Stone got all the science wrong or Dungeon Meshi got the cooking and ecology wrong.

2024-07-19 07:23:41 +0000 UTCIt doesn't need to answer these, but it would be nice if it was thought out a bit more if it's going to use the terminology and aesthetic. Think of an anime like Dungeon Meshi which uses a lot of food/cooking and ecology terminology. They clearly thought of things in a great amount of detail and made the world in a very well thought-out way. This one, well, it looks really promising, but it just falls short unfortunately. It could have been great if they gave the world just a little bit more detail. That said, maybe my expectations were just too high, I heard a lot of great things about the show and when I watched it, it was just super disappointing

2024-07-18 16:01:33 +0000 UTCThank you saw dudes first comment and it was clear he’s nitpicking. No true manhwa fan is going that hard over adaptation. You just enjoy or simply move on and accept the original content is better.

2024-07-18 14:01:53 +0000 UTCI feel like it should be said that solo leveling is a power fantasy manhwa it’s a really good read with great action but it mostly revolves around being to coolest, strongest most specialist boy

2024-07-18 05:35:50 +0000 UTCI mean, ultimately if you are looking for a really thought provoking complex narative this show isn't really for you; it's a great popcorn power fantasy show with pretty nice animation and a fun concept even if you can't vibe with the details. Doesn't need to be anything more than that. The first two episode absolutely should have been one episode though.

2024-07-18 05:29:55 +0000 UTCthe animation is not tied as closely to the song as you might think. If they match in BPM and use the same music theory foundations the songs are interchangeable. This is why Dear Maria by All Time Low fits almost every anime opening - Including this OP

2024-07-18 02:11:26 +0000 UTCTbh, it seems like you are complaining for the sake of complaining. Why would the anime need to answer any of those questions? Why this? Why that? It isn’t a game in the world. It is purely designed like it and borrows terminology to explain what they’re seeing, but it isn’t a game. I think you’re too focused on the technical aspect (something 90% of people do not care about) of the world and not the story. It may not be the best story ever. But it’s a decent story

2024-07-17 18:36:26 +0000 UTCAs someone who plays far too many video games this show felt so weird for me. They borrow a lot of terminology and mechanics, but they all seem to be in this uncanny valley situation where they're basically faking understanding of video games? Like, the dungeon layouts, enemies, move sets, leveling system, items, quest rewards, everything feels so wrong, like no actual video game would ever actually work like this, and there's good reasons why you wouldn't design them this way. Which just makes it feel inauthentic when the anime uses video game terminology. Reminds me a lot of Sword Art Online, another show that tries to do video games, but doesn't actually understand video games. Like this instance dungeon for example - Cool, you have an alternate version of the subway. Why do you have wolves and goblins populating them? What's the story or theme here exactly? Why are they in the subway system? Are these two working together? If so why not have goblins riding wolves or hunting alongside them? Why aren't there goblin camps or tents or items, decor stuff around the subway? And why did the wolf suddenly appear after the goblins were defeated? In dungeons and raids usually the players have to pull a group of enemies by going into their range of aggro. Was this wolf a patrol that just conveniently timed or is it a scripted encounter? It just feels off and there's more examples in later episodes, but this one felt off to me too.

2024-07-17 18:15:22 +0000 UTCMy biggest issue with this show was the pacing. The first episode had a lot of issues, to the point that I think episode 2 should've been the first episode and the ep1 could basically be cut out entirely, but this episode I think showcases the bigger problem - We skip over a lot of training and do the worldbuilding via random characters just telling us about stuff instead of showing it, all to get to this Instance dungeon quickly, and the dungeon is honestly a letdown. The pacing and the writing and the way information is presented just needs more work, the main thing that I think is great is the animation and that's why I assume this show gets a lot of praise, because unlike other big name animes this year, it seriously lacks in other departments. The goblins are an enigma for me, because they look horrible, their design is basic asf, and it's so basic it gives me the vibe that it is intentionally that way, that they want to convey that these goblins are extremely low level weak boring enemies, but then they gave them the absolute smoothest move sets and attacks, full of personality and style. Why? Are they supposed to be basic or not? Are they meant to evoke the feel of being in a video game? Because if so, this isn't how enemies move/attack in video games, at least not basic enemies. The closest I can think of is dogs/wolves in Witcher 3 that do this circle/surround strategy, going in for a strike then retreating back to the circle while another attacks. It's a very rare thing and very specific to that enemy type, so I doubt they were going for that. Honestly as a massive video game nerd this show felt just off entirely, like they don't actually know wtf they're talking about, they don't have a clue how games work or play and why they work the way they do. It reminded me of Sword Art Online and that's NOT a thing you want to be compared to, bc that's another anime where the writing is bad and the world and its rules are poorly thought out, with no understanding of the thing they're trying to build. I feel like they could've taken some cues from Log Horizon instead. Granted that anime has a lot of issues too, but at least they know games a bit better. It's too soon to judge the entire world and setting for me, given it's just one rather quick season, but it's not very promising so far.

2024-07-17 18:02:19 +0000 UTCMy only gripe with this show is that there is absolutely no way Jin-woo should have been able to survive running away from those monsters for 4 whole hours lol

2024-07-17 17:20:56 +0000 UTCFYI, an "instance", "instance quest", or "instance dungeon" in an MMO is usually a type of quest where an area that is usually accessible in normal gameplay is copied and transformed somewhat to fit the needs of a given quest. The transformed area is usually only accessible to those who have the quest, and (depending on the type of quest it is) it can usually be done solo or in a party. For example, there's a game called Lord of the Rings Online. In it, you can access Rivendell. There's also an instance quest where you can witness the Fellowship depart Rivendell. The instance loads a copy of the outside area of Rivendell but loads in objects and people that wouldn't normally be outside, like the Fellowship, Elrond, and others. As an example of a combat instance quest, there's another instance quest in the game where a hill called Weathertop (which is the hill that Frodo, Strider, and the others camped on early in The Fellowship of the Ring, and it's accessible in normal gameplay) has been taken over by a whole camp of goblins. (The camp of goblins and various other obstscles aren't there in normal gameplay.) Your job as the player is to get rid of the goblins and get to the top of the hill. The quest can be done solo or in a party. In this particular episode, we see the MC (I can never remember his name) enter an instance of an area that's accessible to the general public (a subway station). He's in the exact same area, but the area has been transformed to fit the needs of the quest (including enemies and other stuff).

2024-07-17 17:11:28 +0000 UTCThis song was commissioned. However many artist make a lot of songs for anime openings and studios just pick from those options. Animation comes after song always though. They are just sometimes general songs not made specifically for the show.

2024-07-17 14:18:42 +0000 UTCTo answer the opening question, generally it’s the music and all audio first and then animation. Dubbing into another language is the exception and what makes it more difficult to voice act as you’re matching existing animation. The strength training is a reference to a great anime that also started as a web comic: One Punch Man. About a guy who became a hero for fun and that is his daily training regiment that let him become the strongest being alive they can beat any enemy with one punch. It’s a great show, I think you guys would like it. Also having read the manhwa, your reactions got me to watch the rest of the show ahead and I’m so excited for your guy’s reactions. I remembered this story was good but being back in it again is so good.
