TLA 1x3 Reaction

Enjoy! Next ep Tuesday!

yeah I agree, the dialogue is just sooo awkward at times and almost forced? It sounds just like a read-through of the script at some points, not a whole lot of character behind it I feel like they took away one of Aangs biggest character points, in that he acts like a child and isn't really serious about a lot of things. In these first 3 episodes, it just feels like Aangs accepted that he is the avatar and is fine with fighting the fire nation, whereas in the show and comics it takes him a while to fully accept it :/ I agree with Montana too, Katara's anger is a HUGE part of the show and isn't even resolved until S3, so her fiery temper being absent just leaves her role... really flat imo 😭

First Grade Sorcerer - Day

I'm not saying they needed to do that. But they basically took the storyline, hit shuffle, and then threw in crap dialogue/writing to piece it all together. If you enjoy it, understandably everyone has different preferences, but for me personally...this show has been truly underwhelming for an adaptation of the masterpiece original that I love.

I hate this argument, it's kinda not thought out, like sure they are 1 hour eps but they can't split them into 3 parts. I mean they could but what show does that. You have to compare ep to ep. They adapt 20 minute episodes into 1 hour. Hence the issues. OP worked cause they aapted arcs, so hours of content and they cut. Avataris tying to add 2x the length basically. it's rough

If they don't put vision blocking contacts on that actor I will be ANGRY. I get finding a blind martial art master child is hard, and the only person I have EVER seen play a blind person well is Charlie Cox. They are gonna CG her eyes anyway. So they might as well make her actually blind so she doesn't have to ACT like she is blind.

Æther Paradox

The zuko show 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yes, it feels like the potential is there. Because you're right, the casting is great for what you'd expect them to look like (or as close as possible) but the dialogue/changes to their characters is off putting. Hopefully season 2 can improve, because if they fuck up toph...I'm gonna riot! 🤣

Jinchuriki87

I think they are enjoying it for what it is. The zuko show with great set pieces. Casting is amazing. I just wish they had better writing to lift up the performances that are happening. All these martial art expert kids are incredibly talented and I hope season 2 and 3 are able to improve now that they know they have the runtime.

Æther Paradox

I ONLY watched it here, because I was skeptical about it. Especially when my friend, who's also a big AtLA fan, told me "it was meh" Feels like Montana is taking it better since she doesn't remember as much, but to me, it feels like Kenny is having a hard time trying to find the enjoyment of it. (Or maybe I'm projecting...😂😅)

Oops didn't mean to steal someone else's thunder, but yeah. This was the episode I stopped in. I got to omashu and had to leave to do something. And just... never came back. I'm still excited to see the rest here.

Æther Paradox

That's what someone just commented to me here...that's crazy they somehow still made it feel crammed into a hot mess when it was only like 2 1/2 episodes of in difference.

Jinchuriki87

Whaaat?!?! That's insane! So it basically COULD have been almost shot for shot of the original, but because of all the new content they're making up/changing, it made it FEEL like it's crammed in. Again, not in a good way. Wow, just...wow Guess I can see why the creators walked away now. The aesthetics are phenomenal, but the delivery is whack. (Like even Mr cabbages role felt like it got jipped...how do you do that?!?! 😂🤦🏻‍♂️)

Jinchuriki87

There’s only a 47 min difference between the 2 shows too lol

SwiftStar

Fun fact. The “time constraint” is only partially real. This series and book one are actually very close in run time.

Æther Paradox

Well...I was trying my best to hang in there, even through a reaction, but this is just sad to watch. Idk who decided these adaptations had to be only 8 episodes, but it then causes crap like this where it feels crammed, and NOT in a good way. Plus, again... they then take away from bigger aspects of the various plots (ie: no northern temple trip) And I'm still not enjoying the way theyve changed the characters in general, and like Kenny said the dialogue is pretty ass.

Jinchuriki87

Adaptation has meaning yet people think it means remake. or redo. It's not.

Peter Amet

I think too many people wanted/expected a shot for shot live action. Its so much more enjoyable if you just watch it for what it is, an adaptation of the cartoon.

Skychaserr

Don’t you just love katara who struggled with water bending at first, but then became better at it then the avatar cause of her hard training? Nah I’d rather my female characters get told by men her “energy” isn’t in the right place, even by non benders, yup Netflix this is way more mature than game of thrones and the silly cartoon

SwiftStar

Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Ozai here, plays General Fong in the original, for the season 2 Premier

Jaques Von Straus

Can't WAIT for the next episode. One of the best thus far.

H-Bomb 24

Fun fact. Zuko’s actor is Actually a martial artist. So it’s really cool getting to see him do his craft.
