Happy Monday Patrons!
Today we are revealing early plans for our future pre-game system that we will host in Ethereal. Some of you may remember our old plans for this via the Loadout System which was ultimately removed because it felt stale and incomplete. It consisted of raw stats that didn't fundamentally change the way you think about how to play a Myth. More recently, you all are more likely to remember the removal of the Primary Spells, which was a necessary step for this new pre game system to shine.
The new pre-game system in Ethereal is the Familiar Talent System fully focused on the Familiars and using them to empower your myths with various playstyles. Each Familiar will have a talent tree with multiple options for active selections and a plethora of passives to augment your Familiar active ability and your Myth. Only 1 active can be chosen for each tree and it influences the other types of talents near it. Each Familiar talent tree will have 2 primary playstyles associated with it, for example Rat Assassin will be focus on Critical Strikes and Damage Over Time. The passives on each tree can include anything from Physical Power bonuses to making Golem heal you during its stasis! The strategy here is endless as each talent tree will have a maximum amount of points that can be allocated into it, leaving it to the players to get the talents they feel most valuable.
Our goals here are to create a system that on the surface is easy to understand and use, but leaving untapped potential in the players hands. Ethereal is complex as is and we do not want to unnecessarily overcomplicate it further. We do however still want there to be depth in the game for those players that go looking for it. Every Familiar will have default trees that new and unfamiliar players will be able to select automatically without having to worry if they have the optimal option. We also are unlocking the 'Single Familiar Per Team' rule and allowing all players to select any Familiar they so choose to compliment their playstyle. Familiar Talent trees will be readable and editable before you get in a lobby and while you are in it. Due to Familiars still being selected with your Myth in Character Select, this will allow players to customize on the fly and stay adaptable to any situation the enemy throws at them.
While we are still working on the finer details such as point allocation and stat benefits, we still want to share with you some of the actives we have planned for existing Familiars:
Golem -
Active 1: Activate to empower your next 2 Basic Attacks, rooting targets hit for 0.5 seconds each.
Active 2: Turn yourself to stone, entering Stasis for 2.5 seconds.
Rat Assassin -
Active 1: Target a nearby enemy, slowing them and dealing damage which is increased if used from behind.
Active 2: For 3 seconds gain Camouflage and Movement Speed. Taking damage breaks the Camouflage.
This is still very early in development and while it will not be available in the next test, it will be released later this year with more details on the various talent trees and active abilities coming soon!
