Hello, patrons!
Whenever I bust out a really hot render of Shannon, you know it's bad news! I guess I hope it lessens the blow, but I'm really not sure what kind of blow this is going to be.
Patreon is going to start charging some of you for sales taxes. They are going to send you an email on June 1 to explain the situation, and they suggested that creators reach out to you to let you know before that happens.
What I know:
• This change will not be in effect until July 1.
• This will affect some countries but not others.
• This will affect different states differently.
What they told me to do is to go through my Tiers and list the benefits, such as "general support" and voting in polls. I believe General Support is not going to be taxed much, if at all. For each tier I've set 50% of the benefits as General Support, which I believe is around the maximum I can get away with.
I don't really know how much this is going to affect you guys, but the cost is all on your end, and I'm sorry about that. They will charge you a tax for every creator you support. It might not be much. They say on a $5 donation in the United States it should be like 20 cents to 55 cents, depending on the state.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
