Success!! 15mm Yellow spring worked great and red springs did too and are the final recommend ones, with nozzle on the bed, I'm getting a 118hz note when plucking the belt, and both belts are within 1hz of each other.
A "limited" model on printables - all thanks to my patrons, wouldn't happen without them!!
one axle option, one bearing option to keep it simple.
Full model + STEP: Download here
confirmed working release - In the shop (included with patronage)
Has additional bearing and axle size option, and of course you can send your requests.

NO PRINT SUPPORT
I printed mine in PETG.
PLA might work except for the motor mount which will need PETG or better.
ABS and ASA are of course great for this.
make it a strong print:
- 5+ bottom and top layer
- 5+ perimeter walls
- 30+% infill
- recommend wall printing order to "inner/outer/inner"
---------------------------------
Two models
- dual individual Z (so 5 stepper needed), and run z tilt before each print (two nema17 32mm motor, so stock ender motors are strong enough to hold the X axis)
- Mechanically linked belts using a 230mm or longer 8mm rod (you can use the stock lead z screw), motors would share a stepper driver. You can also try a single motor, but not sure how well that would work, and a single small motor will likely not be able to hold the X axis when powered off
Hardware needed:
Attached BOM as an excel file
Common hardware:
- (2x) motors can be anything under 40mm in length if you want it to not stick out. Stock Nema 17 32mm motor work, but would recommend those 39mm motor: 17HS15-1504S-X1 (amazon) (stepperonline) / 17HS15-1504S1 (stepperonline)
Both are the same motor, just different connection, one with a plug, other only has wires. - (2x) 188-GT2 6mm belts (188mm is the belt length, it actually has 96 teeth) - Amazon
- (2x) long GT2 belts (2m or more, will actually need about 850mm for each belt on an ender3, longer for taller printer like 3max or extended z setup)
- (2x) Springs - 15mm yellow or red spring (stiffer) - Amazon Yellow - Amazon Red
- (2x) GT2 80teeth, 5mm bore, can be purchased (obviously more accurate) or can be printed and used with another set of GT2 20t 5b pulley — for bottom axle - Aliexpress or printed
Printed: GT2 20t 5mm bore pulley ( ones with grub screw ) — for bottom axle.
Get 20teeth 5mm bore: amazon link 1, link 2 — Aliexpress (make sure to pick 5mm bore) - (2x) GT2 20t or 16t on the motor ( I'm using a GT2 20T ) (rotation distance will differ, 16t will have 8mm rotation distance, 20t will have 10mm rotation distance)
- (8x) M3x8 — to mount the motor
- (16x) M5x8 screw and M5 t-nuts — to secure parts to the extrusion
- (8x) M3x8 — for belt tensioner
- (8x~12x) heat inserts, usual type ( m3, 4mm long and 4.6 or 5mm outer diameter) - amazon link 1, link 2, link 3(has reviews) - AliExpress m3x5x4 or m3x4.6x4
(mechanically synced z will need 12 of them) - (2x) M4x20 (up to M4x25) (yellow spring) — for belt tensioner
Red spring version would need M4x25 (up to M4x30),
(M4x20 might work with red spring but the tensioner will likely need to be lifted by hand a bit for the screw to catch) - (4x) M3x25 — for belt tensioner
Optimally used along with ptfe Bowden type tubing 4mm with 3mm inner diameter ( the type used for reverse Bowden ) Need 64mm, cut in four length of 16mm - 10m of 3mmID-4mmOD (amazon) - (6x ?) M5x40 for the V-wheel axles
- (3x ?) 8mmODx8.3x5ID spacers on the v-wheel axles (can be printed, file in the zip)
Bottom 5mm axle:
- (2x) 5mm diameter rod, 60mm long (can be longer but will stick out) preferably with a flat side — - 5mmx60mm Aliexpress (<-- what I'm using)
- (2x~4x) GT2 20t 5mm bore pulley ( ones with grub screw ) — for bottom axle.
Get 20teeth 5mm bore: amazon link 1, link 2 — Aliexpress (make sure to pick 5mm bore)
Get four if you are printing the GT2 80t pulley - (4x) 625 bearing — for bottom axle — Amazon AliExpress
Bottom 8mm axle:
- (2x) 8mm diameter rod, 60mm long (can be longer but will stick out) - Amazon
- (4x) 688 bearing (8x16x5mm — for bottom axle — Amazon
OR
148 bearing (8x14x4mm) - Amazon
Dual individual Z
- (2x) GT2 20 idler pulley 5mm bore for the top
- (2x) M5x16 as their axle ( up to M5x20 )
Mechanically Synced Z
- (4x) 688 bearing (8x16x5mm — for bottom axle — Amazon
OR
148 bearing (8x14x4mm) - Amazon - 230mmx8mm rod (or longer), you can also use the stock lead z screw
- 4 more threaded heat inserts
- (4x) M3x6
