Hello again. This week in pictures we start with some classic Miami Vice fashions then move on to a classic BBC radio car, a Rolls-Royce Camargue (Jonny’s sacrilegious LS swap, not pictured), a Dutch police 1st gen Touareg on weird wheels, that Rover 3500 S Estoura, and what a £375 MG TF looks like.
`enjoyed the whole cast, but especially the Z8. The retro-jibes back in the day seem ill judged. Does this design need to apologise to the current crop of BMW , not a jot. The car is pretty and plenty unique, although the body coloured dash might already have been premiered the Fiat Coupe. Not a bad place to shop for ideas.

Unfortunately the Land Rover Dealer wouldn't give him a p/x value instead they put it through BCA Auctions and gave him the proceeds, about the same as the service! I do however have the mint and original Mercedes Nokia 6310 phone which has a MB serial number on if you are interested

My 72 yo step dad is now on his 3rd slk(slc) when he head they were stopping making them he bought the ltd edition run out millennium yellow edition.
He does 4k miles a year in it, it lives in the garage and is cleaned every other Sunday. They are serviced at the main dealer for the first 5 years then the local Mercedes-Benz specialist.
He knows this one will never be sold as I will be inheriting it.

Bit of an update on the 6 wheel Aussie special forces Landie for sale, it's hit 91,500 AUD with 5 days to go, will be interesting to see what price it gets https://www.pickles.com.au/trucks/item/-/details/CP--05-1991-Land-Rover-110-6x6-2-seats/256053/

I'm just amazed it's still running. Touaregs have a deserved reputation for spending more time in the workshop than with their owners

Found this MG TF for sale by BBC’s Antiques Roadtrip presenter Roo Irvine. If Porter is ever going to ‘pull the trigger’ on a small, inexpensive roadster, it should be this one:

From memory the in the Phil Collins episode he drove a Lamborghini Jalpa or Silhouette. My father in law was that SLK owner had a high spec from new 2002 230 manual with walnut and Nokia and Becker Sat Nav Headunit, FMBSH in 2018 (32,000 miles) had an £1150 service bill decided to swap it in for a Defender Autobiography and got virtually nothing back for it!

I love a Camargue. Could never really understand the hate it got. Not too many years ago £20 grand got a decent-ish one …

Also Phil the Shill’s car … the white Lambo Jalpa. My favourite episode, which I taped off the telly when it was first shown.

I remember Phil Collins appearing as "Phil the Shill" in Miami Vice mainly due to the controversy it caused in the press of him getting a bit colloquial with his use of language when he uttered the line "You must take me for a right Wanker, son".
Back then it was seen as a bit strong for British viewers (it's seemingly less strident in the USofA) and Barry Took's "Points of View" was at in its heyday.
I also remember (which, of course, could be a distorted memory) that his acting was woeful. It was one of his earliest proper appearances in a TV show.

Just popping in to note that the hero car of the (according to reviews) legendarily terrible Michael Flatley secret agent movie is a white Jaguar E-Type convertible from the early 1970s. The movie is called "Blackbird," though it is said to be such a godawful self-funded vanity project it might have been better to call it Lord Of The Wanks.

Blackpool because (supposedly) the cars were stored in a hangar at Blackpool airport - the prince would fly in, razz them round the airport, then go home. (this at least was the story told round crewe works in the late 90s)

Yes - and it will be low emissions compliant. get the 2 litre for some poke. Check the engine oil level and underneath at the back inboard where the sills meet the body by the rear wheel arch. No problems on my 2007 bullet proof - oh except a new thermostat

I know that 6X6 defender well, it is silver with black wheels. I’ve seen an all black one as well in bath before, pretty cool
I can’t bring myself to like that Carmague even now. I always thought it looked like an American knock off Rolls.

As an ex-smoker too seeing people in films/tv who clearly don't know how to smoke is irritating... And as someone who has a degree in psychology seeing police line-ups in modern film/tv is irritating too. Peoples memories are not the greatest and typically police line-ups are not well run. People can be persuaded who the purp is and details are forgotten or added that means mis-identification is a regular thing. There have been many studies to show just how bad line-ups are for identification so much so that they don't use them often, and if they do lawyers have a field day with them.
On the 6X6 Landies, the Aussie forces used them (they are in the process of going to Mercedes G-Wagons now) for things like Ambulances and special forces uses, They come up for auction regularly like this example, 1991 special forces 6X6 with under 1,300km on the clock. They don't always have accurate mileage, but this one looks particularly clean.. and has a 3.9 Isuzu engine in it... https://www.pickles.com.au/trucks/item/-/details/CP--05-1991-Land-Rover-110-6x6-2-seats/256053/

Just as well you didn’t get in front of that 6x6 Defender, Richard. According to Foley’s website they don’t have any brakes…”We build the 6x6 unit for fitment into the Defender axle making the 6x4 into the non stopping 6x6.”
Talk to phantom motors at crondall. When they looked after my Brunei turbo rt, they had the dozen or so crate engines developed by cosworth for Brunei in the mid 80s. Twin turbo. Chargecooler.

Michael Mann spent a crazy portion of the budget for the show on music Wikipedia says $10,000 per episode which was a lot of money in the 80's. Also Miami especially Miami was just a rundown mess back then

Here’s your Dutch correspondent again (seems like I’ve got a weekly task now), these are the most heavily armoured police cars in the Netherlands, and as such they heavy duty wheels. However, according to a Dutch forum, to make it look like a normal police car (to people without eyes presumably) they fit these covers, while in reality they are actually part of the riot police in some cases

I STILL haven't forgiven you for planting the Bentley Arnarge idea in my head last week just as I have £33k set aside to buy a GR Yaris. Truly the biggest handbrake turn buying wobble ever seen on this Earth. Keep it up wankers - you make my Monday morning 4 am commute down the M5 an absolute giggle and that takes some doing. :-)
