Tistow - Future plans

I wanted to briefly talk about this, it's likely not going to be what some folk want to hear, but we feel it's the right decision for the comic in order to progress with it.

There's no urgency to this either way, but I wanted to be transparent as to what we've been up to. The comic has stood on a shelf for a very long time now due to other commitments. I've felt really bad about continuing it for a number of reasons, some which I've discussed before. And in its current status, I feel like we're not able to pick it up again.

We still love the story and the characters, but what we managed to achieve in the past has been largely left to gather dust. Figuratively and well. I still have some copies of the comic I'd like to hand out to anybody who would like one. They're a really lovely reminder that we managed to print it and that still makes me proud.

What doesn't though, has been my inability to continue drawing and writing it.

Therefore we're going to do a big reshuffle and start over. The story and characters themselves don't change (tweaks, but no overhauls), but there's certain things we'd like to do differently in order to make this whole thing work. As much as I'd like to pick up where we left off, I feel that it's been too long since the last update to do that. Some of the decisions we made storytelling wise now feel quite janky, so there'll be a change to the flow which we believe will help a lot.

I'm not planning to scrap absolutely everything, there's portions of the art that I -can- reuse to make things progress more quickly, but it'll still require a redraw if I am to do that. I have a lot of assets that I created for the old pages in the past that are also going to be very useful in rebuilding scenes, so I'm quite looking forward to that!

What we haven't yet made a decision on, is when to share it. You guys will evidently see everything first, but I'm on the fence about waiting with the public reveal until we've got to the same point in the story where we are now. And in truth, further along, as the way we've planned things now, Jack progresses through the city a bit differently with Morrie.

Stuff like getting straight to showing Jack's abilities is one thing, his reasons for moving away are another, the general feel of the gang and their purpose is yet another I want to show in a bit more coherent light. I'm very fond of this story, and I'd like to continue after feeling for such a long time that I can't.

I'm happier with this plan now than the more unreasonable goals I had set for myself in the past. Hopefully there's still folk out there who'd like to join in for a read once we get bit further with it. ♥ I want to keep this info in Patreon for now, as I can't yet say when we'll kick off.
