Oh look how clever they are.
Very much still a WIP as we're missing their cloth textures and bunch of the maps still need adjusted but, it's been a lot of fun (and rage) working on these two.
This is a combined effort between Miikka and me. Miikka's made the character models (all the polygon shenanigans) and UV mapped both of the boys. He's also the person working on their textures and I've been doing the environment side of things. So yeah, they'll have a scene to sit in at some point (you've seen a glimpse of it in a previous update).
Neither of us had rigged characters for animating before, so we decided to do a boy each and learn to do it together. Miikka's working on Veeti and me on Jáhko. It's been a huge trial and error but we finally have something sharing-worthy. We're both going to continue working on our boys individually expressions and poses wise.
Their facial expressions are a mix of bones (mostly the jaw) and shape keys. Shape keys have meant I've been able to morph Jáhko's face within Blender without having to bug Miikka to do it. It's really good fun as the geometry on both of their faces is brilliantly detailed for that.
