Make your field charging lipo a little safer

Added an automotive blade fuse.

Make your field charging lipo a little safer

Comments

Amps make the same heat regardless of volts is how I understand it. If voltage is too high, the insulation on a conductor may be insufficient but I doubt that matters in this case.

Joshua Bardwell

Interesting choice of 10 amp fuse. Since its automotive fuse thats 10 amps at 12V i think. But a 5S lipo is about 20V so you would expect this fuse to blow if you pulled more than 6 amps?

I was actually looking into making a resettable boom stopper... but the Amp rating is high for that purpose. You could probably modify for resettable.

I used electrical tape to tape a few spare fuses to the side of the battery.

Joshua Bardwell

This will certainly make LiPo handling safer and is a very good idea as long as you are hard wiring the fuse into the battery lead rather than a dongle. Be sure to carry around extra fuses if you go this route.

Yes, exactly. The big battery is a power source for the charger. It's no different than plugging it into the wall or connecting it to your car battery.

Joshua Bardwell

I did this and since I was messing about with a 12v wiring loom I put in a simple flick switch too so I can connect everything before releasing the PPPPOWWEEERRRRRR!

I didn't ask that. I have not done this before with my charger. It has anXT60 connector. With the external battery operating the charger, I use the charger as normal?

Michael Smith

He would have to connect the big 5000 to a charger, not directly to his quad battery. I do this in the field - I have a couple 4S 10,000Mah batts I don't trust in my 700mm hexacopter anymore, but I connect them to my ISDT Q6 charger to charge my 4S 1300-1500 quad batteries in the field.

What do you mean? You don't just cross connect the two batteries. You plug this one into your charger.

Joshua Bardwell

Hi Joshua, Is this the 5000mAh battery in your prior video? How long do you leave it attached to charge the quad battery?

Michael Smith

This is why I support you. This is a hobby for me so I am not as invested as you. You make this hobby fun.
