2023-04-14 12:09:17 +0000 UTCLong have I waited, and man, was it worth it. So yes, this is obviously a bit different from what you’ve heard so far from Sonic. While the series does have a whole lot of variety (which you will hear more of as you continue listening to music from the series), in this specific instance the reason for that is different. In Sonic Adventure 2 you can play as many different characters, one of which being Shadow the Hedgehog, who was introduced in this game. Shadow’s tracks had an industrial/ drum ‘n’ bass vibe going for them (with the exception of Skyrail). The lyrics for these songs are supposed to represent Shadow’s thoughts at the point in the story you hear them. In this fight Shadow is fighting his prototype (and technically his brother due to the nature of them both being artificial creations) the biolizard while going for a bit of redemption after being the main villain for the whole game. The lyrics are supposed to reflect this and they tie into Shadow’s backstory which is a lot of explaining to do so I’ll leave that for another time. But the point is, the lyrics are his thoughts and the reason they’re so distorted here is because he’s been put through the wringer emotionally and mentally. Also yes, this game came out in 2001 so you were spot on with the era of music. Sorry for the massive paragraph, great reaction as always Jesse!
