If you go back and watch, the very first scene that introduces Avasarala; she's torturing an OPA courier who was caught snuggling stealth tech. That was the first seed of the Inaros storyline, in the first few minutes of the very first episode. Incredible attention to detail and commitment to laying the groundwork long before most shows would bother to.

I'm glad you really enjoyed this season. Watching you makes it more enjoyable to me.

Marco is an infuriatingly good villian. Literally fuck him. He's much more charming than Strickland, so totally understandable he's falls behind xD

LightningInvoker

I’m excited for him to see more of Amos’s journey and character development as we move forward! Such an incredible character.

You're the first person I've seen to remember the "people who throw rocks" thing on the first watch. Impressive. Most impressive. This is always a tough episode to watch. Those last 5-10 minutes might be the most intense season ending I've ever seen. The rollercoaster is insane.

Season 4 was dropped all at once in late 2019. I watched most of it over a few weeks but was spoiled about Ashford in E10 and took a long time to see it because I was so sad about losing him. Still is a terrible moment. But did you see the actor playing Filip? A perfect blend of Marco and Naomi (or Keon and Dom!); amazing casting (and not Canadian for once!) David Straitharn is a favorite of mine, you can see him in films like We are Marshall, Good Night and Good Luck and A League of their Own. All great films! Buckle up! It gonna be a rough ride!!

Uh, You will know...

Ashford grew on me, too. He's not a book 4 character, but the actor enjoyed the show and character enough that he offered to come back if they could figure in a way to have him be part of the plot. The use of him to bring the Marco story along was brilliant. Also agree with others on the feel of Season 4. It felt off my first time through, but with understanding of the overall story arc, and the importance of discovering all the Builder stuff on Ilus and the lurking threat, it's fantastic. One note on the "Jelly Elevator" (Jellivator, if you will), it probably wasn't easy to visualize, but it is described as an efficient horizontal transportation system as part of the planet's infrastructure, not vertical. Which is how it seems at first. As always, love your enthusiasm, insight and passion for the show and story!

Here comes the juice!!

Fury Roll

OH MAN OH MAN, here comes SEASON 5 and I can't wait to see your journey through it! Let the good times roll!

Shawn Anomaly

Amazing insights, sir! The Expanse has unmatched depth and breadth of characters and story-telling. So much to unpack!

Alexander Sirazh

Which is now what I will say every time I rewatch the Season 4 finale

Fury Roll

Rad! That is ridiculously cool, my friend!

Fury Roll

'I'm not sure that's possible' - Greg October '24 (before he learned to hate Marco even more)

Fury Roll

Can't wait, my friend! Let me know when we hit your favorite beats/plot points of Season 5!

Fury Roll

Agree with all points, brother. Marcos is brilliant, charismatic and in many ways 'not wrong'. All that being said, I want him pulled apart by multiple forces of nature.

Fury Roll

Recognized it immediately, my friend :D

And now you know where my PFP comes from 🀣

I could talk about Ashford all day. I love him so damn much. Kinda reminds me of the golden age of piracy and the fact that they offered unconditional pardons to pirates because they couldn't stop them. They offered them concessions. Ashford always had an air of "Treat me with respect, or I'll take off this uniform and remind you of who I was before I put it on." But inwardly he really wants more for the future generations. A belter who had to scrap and fight and struggle for everything, finally seeing an opportunity to make sure that his decedents will never have to face those same hardships. I love him so so much. So much of this season was different, but there were so many character moments that stood out: Drummer seeing a bigger picture. Chrisjen acknowledging that she is better out of the light where she can get shit done and realizing that she needs to lose to help the planet. Bobby realizing how fragile the dream of Mars is and that what she was raised to believe is being undone. Look at the people that are already shown to be compromised/on the take? Almost all of them she initially encounters are older. The dock loader, Esai looking to get a chance to live on a breathable planet with his family before he's gone. Naomi watching a child wrestle with a mother that accidentally committed an act of terrorism. Alex talking to people about his past with his family. But most importantly, the setup for Marco is so good. Because I agree with you mate. I'd have a hard time not being swayed by him. And it's not just the acting, the writing and the worldbuilding make it so. He doesn't rant and rave. He doesn't lie very often. Even his lies are often truth adjacent. His mission is aligned with so much that we as viewers have come to believe in, appreciate and value. A belt, run for the belt, by the belt. And for me he blends Fred Johnson and Anderson Dawes. Fred isn't liked very much, but he has a military mind. He's willing to make huge plays, like with the nukes and Eros. Taking the Behemoth. Getting a sample of the protomolecule. All of this advances the belts chips at the table. They have nukes now. Protomolecule. The largest ship in the system. But Marco also has Dawes likableness. Season 1, Dawes says to Miller at the bar when he's offering up the man who staked his partner: "You don't see what I see. A Ceres for belters. Run by belters." Almost everytime we see Fred he's the big man in charge. But look back at early seasons of Dawes and where do you find him? In an office or making executive decisions? No. He's on the docks, shaking hands, defending Ceres and his brothers but also gently redirecting their anger. He's a smooth operator. A politician. A salt of the belt kinda guy. And Marco has both those sides to him. He's militant, crafty, can think in large scale conflict. He's planning on punching at earth. He's using cutting edge military stealth tech and a complex smuggling network. But yet when he's up against a firing squad, he's just like you. He could be your friend, brother, father, lover. Marcos isn't dangerous because he's deranged and bloodthirsty like Murtry or even Erinwright at times. He's not cold and unlikeable like Strictland. Miller talking about Dresden on Thoth Station. "I didn't kill him because he was crazy. I killed him because he was starting to make sense." That's what makes him so dangerous. I've a dozen comparrisons to make to him. If anyone here has ever seen Critical Role: Calamity dm'd by Brennan Lee Muligan, he addresses the nature of evil in the shows wrap up. And true evil is high social empathy, low emotional empathy. Another comparison my mind went to is something from The Book of Eli. There's an exchange in that where one character laments that he doesn't have the words to make people follow him. But if he did, he could remake the world. All it sometimes takes is having the right words. The pen being mightier than the sword. All in all, masterfully well done.

God, the end of season 4 is such a gut punch but in the best of ways. Season 4 benefits most, imo, from a re-watch. The first time I watched it, I did not like it at all. It was so different from the rest of the show. BUT every time I re-watch I like it more and more. I don't think my order of favorite seasons would change but I always look forward to reactors getting to this season. I love, love, love season 5 and am so excited to watch with you. I will not say much about the season but just remember to keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times.

Daxeah

That is super cool!

Matt Drahos

Oh, youΒ΄ll hate Marco even more :D

I believe this is the first appearance of Marco's Vac-Suit in the show. I actually won it the Expanse prop store auction and have it displayed in my basement lol. Now, whenever anyone comes to my house and sees the suit, I often show them the final scene of this episode out-of-context, so they can see it in action. Got a couple people to check out the show that way.

Varun Laks

I'm not ready.
