Yes, it's a pretty big disappointment all round, I don't think it could ever have been great, there's no way to fit all the story from the show into a single movie, but the direction they ended up taking was just the most dull and derivative Hollywood B-movie schlock. A shame too, some of the casting was pretty great, don't recall the names of the actors but I really liked Okita and the merged Yuki / Akira character. But Kimura Takuya, as much as I loved him in other shows, was way too old to play Kodai, I mean he was the Prime Minister of Japan in another show just two years earlier! (also thanks for pointing out the movie came out in 2010, I'd somehow misremembered it as around 2015/16)

Each Cosmo Falcon ship came equipped with 6 cannons, in 2 groups, 2 machines guns and could carry a total of 8 missiles (4 per side). Missiles could be attached either by 2 hidden weapon bays built into the fuselage or on triple racks attached to each wing. Capable of vertical take-off and stationary flight. Each ship is equipped with a AI computer to assist the pilot during missions. 2) Type 0 Cosmo Zero The Yamato launched with 2 fighters of this type. This craft is the next generation superiority fighter capable of engaging space, air and ground targets. This fighter was originally expected to be the main fighter type at the time of the launch of the Yamato for its mission to travel to Iscandar. However, due to problems caused by delays to bring this fighter to full mass production, only two were available by the time the Yamato had to launch. Each fighter is equipped with 4 machine guns and 1 autocannon. Capable of a mixture of laser and particle beam armaments. Each ship has 12 hardpoints that can be used to launch different missiles types depending on the expectations of the mission. These fighters are launched from Yamato's exterior catapult ramps located near the aft of the ship. Because these ships are intended to be able to operate equally well in space, the wings of the ships also act as heatsinks. Each ship comes equipped with a AI computer system.

2024-10-04 23:57:30 +0000 UTCJust started watching the episode but that initial comment by the Gamilas officer on the Yamato's lack of grace brought to mind something I'd been meaning to mention. Apologies if this is going way off topic for the show, but considering how large an element of it is the ship herself, I thought perhaps some fellow watchers might be interested in some takes on the original Yamato. First, there's a Japanese movie from 2019, The Great War of Archimedes, which is a completely fictional account of the political shenanigans involved in the Yamato being commissioned in the first place. Somewhat silly, but does have some lovely CGI shots of the ship herself towards the end, and has some interesting ideas about the meaning of the ship itself to the Japanese nation and people of the time. This could be nonsense of course, after all the movie was based on a manga, but considering the original Space Battleship Yamato aired in 1974, not thirty years after her namesake sank, it seems there's at least some merit to what it has to say. Second, a first-hand source, the book Requiem for Battleship Yamato, an account of the ship's doomed journey by one of the lucky survivors, Yoshida Mitsura. Once a best seller in Japan if I remember right, the original version is apparently written in a quite lovely poetic style which is unfortunately lost in the English translation, but it's nonetheless a fascinating glimpse into the last days of one of the world's most famous warships. No direct bearing on the show we're watching, but interesting nonetheless. Of course there's also the Japanese live action Space Battleship Yamato movie from the mid 2010s, but...nah. He has been present for the last couple of episodes. Kenjiro was the crew member who asked XO Sanada what the food was made of in episode 4 and then commented on Yuria Misaki presence on the bridge until reminded to show respect to fellow crewmembers by his senior officer Daisuke Shima. Yasuo Nanbu – Member of Tactical Division (White/Green Uniform – Bridge personnel) Male wears glasses and has dark gray hair, primarily chief gunner and responsible for the operation of ship’s cannons and missile system. He is also backup to Susumu Kodai when Kodai is away from his post on other duties. Yasuo, heir to a major munitions company on Earth and noted has the attitude to use the biggest guns first when going into battle. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Yamato Character Updates Akira Yamamoto (Rei) – Rei has silver hair and dark skin. Rei, as of this episode, has been permanently transferred to Yamato’s Fighter/Defense Squadron due to her quick actions that saved the lives of the search and rescue party dispatched to a then unknown ship, later ID’d as the Yukikaze (DD-117), on Saturn’s moon Enceladus. Akira and her older brother were the only survivors in her family when Mars was evaluated following the battle of Mars. Her brother, Akio was a recon pilot for the UNCF until his death in the war between Gamilan and Earth. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Gamilan Characters Introduced this Episode Eruc Domel – Though Lt General Domel did not make a direct appearance in this episode, he is mentioned by Colonel Shultz, Pluto base. Based on the comparison made by Col. Shultz, you can infer that Gen Domel command is much preferred over Major-General Goer.
